    Scrubs actor crowed funded film trailer released

    MUMBAI: On Wednesday, 9 April, Focus Features released the first official trailer for the new Zach Braff’s crowd-funded independent film, Wish I Was Here.

     

    It was in April, last year, that director Braff launched the campaign for his upcoming comedy film to make $2 million to boost his project. The movie is based on his own script co-written with his brother Adam J. Braff. By 24 May, the campaign generated a total of $3,105,473 funded by 46,520 people.

     

    Wish I Was Here is Braff’s follow-up to his indie breakout hit Garden State. Wish I Was Here stars Zach Braff (Scrubs) along with Kate Hudson (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), Josh Gad (Frozen), Ashley Greene (Twilight films), Joey King (The Conjuring) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory). The movie is produced by Stacey Sher, Michael Shamberg, and Zach and Adam Braff.

     

    The movie is a story of a thirty-something man who finds himself at a major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family. Aidan Bloom (Braff), a struggling actor, father, and husband is trying to find the purpose of his life at the age of 35.

    Focus sets Ryan Reynolds sci-fi thriller Selfless for winter 2015

    As part of the October deal that saw FilmDistrict being absorbed into Focus Features, the latter has taken over distribution of two more titles and announced a new release date for one of them.

     

    The sci-fi thriller Selfless, starring Ryan Reynolds, originally had been set for September 2014 but now will see day of light on 27 February 2015. It centers on a terminally ill billionaire who buys a chance for eternal life through an experimental underground medical procedure. Focus also will handle the  Zac Efron flick That Awkward Moment, which was  retitled  from Are We Officially Dating? a few months ago. Its release date remains 31 January. Focus  said last month that it will release the former FilmDistrict title Insidious: Chapter 3 in April 2015.

    Elton Johns biopic Rocketman to go on floor next year

    MUMBAI: The new CEO of Focus Features, Peter Schlessel, he has decided to make it a priority to speed up Elton John’s biopic Rocketman. Tom Hardy stars as the legendary singer in the movie. Schlessel has also co-founded FilmDistrict, a distribution entity that has bagged the rights to Rocketman which Elton John is executive producing.

     

    Michael Gracey will be shooting the movie in fall 2014 with an original screenplay by Lee Hall. John will be re-recording many of his iconic hit songs to match the movie’s pace. Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish are producing the movie from Rocket Pictures while Lawrence Bender on behalf of financier at AI Film.

     

    Len Blavatnik is also executive producing along with AI Film CEO Aviv Giladi and Schlessel. International sales are being handled by Good Universe.

    Charlie Hunnam gets Christian Grey role in Fifty Shades Of Grey

    MUMBAI: Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has officially been set to play Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, the Universal Pictures and Focus Features adaptation of the runaway bestselling book series.

     

    Hunnam, who had been rumored for weeks, more recently starred in the Guillermo Del Toro-directed Pacific Rim. Author EL James made the casting official on her Twitter page. Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing a script by Kelly Marcel and Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing along with the author.

     

    This follows after the official casting of Dakota Johnson to play the role of Anastasia Steele. Grey is the young, wealthy industrialist with a dark past who favors S&M relationships. His loyalty to the dominant-submissive subset is tested when he meets the young college graduate Anastasia Steele, who seems like the perfect girl for him.
