    Thakur JWT Malaysia’s new planning head

    MUMBAI: Bhaskar Thakur, who left J. Walter Thomson (JWT) to join OYO Rooms as head of brand strategy, has returned to JWT Malaysia as the head of strategic planning. He will lead the strategic planning for brands such as Nestle and Shell.

    JWT Malaysia recently appointed Saurabh Saksena as the managing director.

    Thakur has over 13 years of experience in creating categories, building brands and growing business across FMCG, financial services and technology brands along with leading brand marketing.

    Thakur had joined OYO Rooms in October 2015. Earlier, he was the AVP and strategic planning director for JWT in Gurgaon. He had handled strategy for PepsiCo – Slice, Tropicana, Mountain Dew & Gatorage, Nestle, Kitkat, Munch, Milkybar, Alpino, and GSK. He has also worked in the strategic departments of Euro RSCG, Ogilvy & Mather and Publicis.

    Airtel DTH appoints Mondelez’s Sunil Taldar as CEO & MD

    MUMBAI: Bharti Airtel has finally got the replacement of Shashi Arora, who after a successful stint of around five years as CEO – DTH, has moved as MD & CEO of Airtel Payments Bank. The company has appointed Sunil Taldar as CEO and director – DTH.

    Taldar will be a member of the Airtel Management Board and report to Bharti Airtel (India & South Asia) MD and CEO Gopal Vittal. In his new role, Taldar will be responsible for driving growth and innovation for Airtel Digital TV, which is a key growth driver within the company’s B2C portfolio.

    Vittal said that Sunil’s rich experience across consumer facing categories would add value to its DTH portfolio. He said would also thank Shashi for his valuable contribution to Airtel Digital TV.

    Taldar has an experience of over 28 years in the FMCG industry with Mondelez (erstwhile Cadbury), where he held several senior leadership positions across multiple geographies, including India, China, and Singapore across sales, marketing, media and general management.

    In his last role, Sunil was the country head – Indonesia for Mondelez, where he played a critical role in turning around the business. Prior to this, he was India sales director for Cadbury where he transformed the company’s go to market capabilities and delivered solid growth.

    Airtel Digital TV had over 12.4 million customers at the end of the quarter ended September 2016 and the business recorded a revenue growth of 21 per cent and customer growth of 17 per cent for the same period.

    BENGALURU: Airtel Phone Services (Airtel Cellular) has been the largest advertiser on television for 4 weeks in row, starting from BARC week 43 (22 October 2016 to 28 October 2016) until BARC week 46 (12 November 2016 to 18 November 2016).
    The brand had 9,229; 9,370; 10,387 and 9,444 spots or television ad insertions in BARC weeks 43; 44; 45 and 46 respectively, the highest during all the four weeks.

    It may be noted that BARC weeks 43,44 and 45 could be termed as festival or Diwali weeks for India in 2016, the period during and after which Airtel Cellular continues to top the charts. In weeks 41 (8 October 2016 to 14 October 2016) and 42, (15 October 2016 to 21 October 2016) food and confectionary brand Cadbury had topped the charts and stood at second place in week 40 (1 October 2016 to 7 October 2016).  Dettol had stood at the numero uno position in week 40.

    While Auto, jewellery and food brands have been conspicuous by their absence from the top ten brands list in terms of TV ad spots since week 45, the central government made an appearance at ninth (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) and tenth (Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation) places in list in week 46.  Please refer to Figure A below for data on the list of top 10 brands in terms of television ads (top 10list).

    MUMBAI: After Patanjali reminded the market of the country’s belief in its ancient ayurvedic solutions with its aggressive performance in the FMCG sector, it is now Dabur India’s turn to solidify its position as the ‘oldest ayurvedic brand’ in India.

    Dabur India is promoting Ayurveda amongst the young professionals with AyurMedha scholarship. This program has been inculcated to encourage young talents in the field of Ayurveda. Through this initiative, the company will reach out to India’s top 50 Ayurveda medical colleges and select three meritorious students for the scholarship prize.

    Introduced in 2012, this initiative has already facilitated over 300 students till now and endeavors to reach out to more colleges each year. In an attempt to make Ayurveda practices contemporary, Dabur is inviting successful Ayurveda practitioners from across the country to deliver lectures on Clinical Aspects of Ayurveda.

    Dabur India head ethicals Dr. Durga Prasad said, “We are very pleased to announce this year AyurMedha scholarship. Such platform encourages young professionals to practice Ayurveda and take Goodness of Ayurveda across. Dabur as the continuum of traditional Ayurveda and cutting edge science strongly believes in passing on this knowledge to the younger generations which can take the Ayurveda heritage forward.

    Dabur recently announced Dabur Chyawan Vatika, in which, the company with the help of Bio resource scientists, local tribes and NGOs has identified and established Green houses, across India, to cultivate rare medicinal plants. Under this initiative, the rare herbs/ saplings grown in the Chyawan Vatika green houses will be donated to India’s top 50 Ayurveda medical colleges and cultivated into medicinal plant garden, which will be named ‘Dabur Chyawan Vatika.”
