    Shaila-Ann Rao is Sportfive International MD

    MUMBAI: International sports marketing agency Sportfive, owned by Lagard?re, has announced that Alain Lemarchand has nominated Shaila-Ann Rao as the new managing director of its international business unit.


    Rao, who joined Sportfive International in March 2011 as COO, will replace the current MD, Vincent Tong Cuong, who will now lead Sportfive France as its MD.


    The change in management, which will be with immediate effect, concludes a first phase in which Vincent has successfully re-positioned Sportfive International as a tenacious and competitive sports marketing agency. 
     
    Rao, who was previously Deputy Director of Legal and Business Affairs at TF1 and a member of the TF1 Management Committee, will use the depth and strength of her sports media rights background to drive the international business towards development.


    Rao is a trained lawyer who is qualified and has practised in both the UK and in France. In 1996 she joined French national commercial broadcaster TF1 where she spent 12 years negotiating and managing deals with leading international film studios and sports rights holders, working on all major sports competitions and matches broadcast by TF1, including the Fifa World Cups 2010/2014 and the Rugby World Cups 2007/2011.

    MUMBAI: Barclays Premier League is on an India promotion tour. Barclays, the official sponsor of the soccer league, has announced the Barclays Premier League Trophy four-city tour.

    The trophy will visit different parts of the country.

    The Trophy‘s tour has started in Mumbai and will be here till 12 December, in Chennai on 13 December, in Pune from 14- 16 December and in New Delhi from 17- 18 December.

    Barclays together with the ex-India internationals will also conduct a football coaching clinic for a group of underprivileged children of the Magic Bus foundation in Mumbai on 11 December.

    The Barclays Premier League Trophy was unveiled at Mumbai in the presence of senior Barclays officials including Barclays Wealth MD Satya Bansal MD and Barclays Corporate MD Karan Bhagat. Also present at the Trophy unveiling were former Indian soccer players such as I M Vijayan, Jo Paul Ancheri, Kiron Khongsai, Ilyas Pasha, Aqueel Ansari, Bhaskar Maity, Sanath Seth, Godfrey Pereira, Jamshid Nassiri and Bernard Pereira.

    The owner of Churchill Brothers football club Churchill Alemao was also present. The Indian footballers and club owner were felicitated by Barclays for their contribution to the development of the sport.

    Barclays Bank CEO India Mani Subramanian said, “Our association with the Premier League which started way back in 2001 has been one of the longest sports sponsorships for us. This association has made Barclays synonymous with the Premier League and it helps us connect with millions of people, clients and more importantly football fans not only in regions where we operate but also in regions where people love and follow the Barclays Premier League.”

    Barclays had renewed its global title sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League in October 2009 with a new deal worth ?82.25 million, which runs until the end of the 2012-13 season. By the end of the new sponsorship deal, the Barclays Group will have been the sponsors for 12 years from 2001 to 2013. Manchester United is the most successful Premier League team having won the title 11 times and never finishing outside the top three. More players appearing in the 2006 and 2010 Fifa World Cups from this league than any other domestic football league.

    Barclays has invested over ?37 million through its ‘Barclays Spaces for Sports programme’ that has created community sports sites and projects around the globe including 200 in the UK. Besides it has also created sites in Zambia, South Africa, and the USA with new football programmes continuing to be rolled out internationally.

    Korean broadcaster SBS International gets rights for 2010, 2014 Fifa World Cups

    MUMBAI: Football Media Services (FMS), the joint venture between Infront Sports & Media and Dentsu handling the distribution of Asian broadcast rights to the 2007-2014 Fifia events on behalf of soccer’s governing body Fifa has successfully negotiated a broadcast rights agreement with Korean broadcaster SBS International.

    The agreement covers the broadcast rights in Korea for all 2007-2014 Fifa events, including all matches of the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups.

    SBS International is the international acquisition arm of Seoul Broadcasting System, one of the leading national South Korean television and radio networks. SBS was previously a joint rights holder for the 2002 and 2006 Fifa World Cups along with two other major networks in Korea.

    FMS MD TMichael Francombe says, “The agreement with SBS International is a great start for Fifa’s distribution plans in Asia and for Football Media Services. I am confident that SBS will be an excellent and innovative partner for Fifa.

    “Working with a major national broadcaster will ensure maximum coverage and audiences for the Fifa World Cups and other Fifa events in this important Asian market.”

    The 2010 Fifa World Cup will take place across nine cities in South Africa: Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria and Rustenburg. The final event will consist of 64 matches. The international signal will be produced by Host Broadcast Services (HBS). HBS was also the host broadcaster for the 2002 World Cup Korea/Japan and 2006 Fifa World Cup Germany.
