    FIC to day & date release ‘The X-Files’ across 60+ markets

    MUMBAI: Fox International Channels (FIC) is bringing the next mind-bending chapter of The X-Files to 60+ countries with a day & date release.

     

    The six-episode event series helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as iconic FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, will air on FIC’s Fox channels immediately following the 24 January debut on Fox in the US.

     

    The series will return as part of a two-night special event across all licensed territories within the international Fox portfolio starting on 25 January, and will reach audiences throughout Latin America in markets such as Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina; in South East Asia including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia; and markets in Europe including Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Africa.

     

    The day & date TV launch model is a staple of the Fox programming strategy for its viral, high-profile US series, including The Walking DeadWayward Pines, Scream QueensEmpire, and the upcoming Outcast, which FIC’s in-house studio Fox International Studios developed with Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) for Cinemax in the USA and Fox channels internationally. 

     

    The X-Files, an Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history, returns 13 years after the original series. Having originally premiered in September 1993, the series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award.

     

    Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, The X-Files is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.

    Fox International Channels names Ratna Siriah as GM – Africa

    MUMBAI: Fox International Channels (FIC) Europe & Africa has appointed Ratna Siriah as general manager for Africa.

     

    Siriah will report directly to Fox International Channels UK, Nordic region, Turkey and Africa EVP Adam Theiler. She will be based in Johannesburg where she assumes management of the company’s business in the region.

     

    In Africa, FIC operates pay TV channels in the entertainment, factual and sports segments including: Fox, Fox Crime, FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, National Geographic Gold, Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2 and Baby TV.

     

    Prior to joining FIC, Siriah has held several leadership positions in the media industry both in the region and prior to that in India.

     

    On her appointment Theiler said, “The appointment of Ratna reflects our ambition in Sub-Saharan Africa. She brings a vigorous commercial approach to the market and an impressive ability to understand the needs of our fans, affiliate partners and advertisers.     MUMBAI: Fox International Channels (FIC) Content Sales has expanded its catalogue to include a robust slate of formats. Originally developed at FIC to feed the group’s global entertainment and factual networks, the newly launched format rights for Lucky LadiesSchool for HusbandsF***ing Telemarketers as well as an exciting line of existing FICCS formats that include National Geographic Channel’s Street GeniusCar S.O.S and Science of Stupid and a bouquet of telenovela hailing from FOX Telecolombia, will be available as formats at MIPCOM this coming October.

     

    “It is very exciting to be adding FIC’s original formats to our expanding rights portfolio. These shows have done incredibly well for our local channels, frequently delivering outstanding performance records, and we’re thrilled to be offering them to international broadcasters to create equally successful local versions,” said FIC SVP – global head of content sales Prentiss Fraser.

     

    Fox International Channels, under the stewardship of Emmy award-winning executive producer Christian Barcellos, who is now FIC EVP of unscripted entertainment, has been aggressively stepping up its production of unscripted originals in key markets across the world.

    FIC hires Indian distribution veteran Rahul Sood

    MUMBAI: Former NDTV distribution head Rahul Sood is moving base to Singapore. The highly experienced distribution executive will be joining the 21st Century Fox owned Fox International Channels (FIC) as vice-president of affiliate sales and commercial come 9 December.

     

    He will be responsible for FIC’s sales and channel development of new markets across the region, with emphasis on newly emerging areas.  Rahul will also be developing FIC’s sales strategy for commercial establishments such as hotels and other out-of-home opportunities.

     

    In addition, Rahul will focus on the international distribution beyond APAC and the Middle East of FIC’s suite of Chinese channels, which includes SCM, the network’s powerhouse Chinese movies channel.  This emphasis underscores FIC’s commitment to the ambitious goal of promoting Chinese-language content beyond Asia and taking the SCM brand global.

     

    Rahul brings over 17 years of leadership experience in various roles in Asia’s TV industry. Prior to joining FIC, he spent 10 years as the head of affiliate sales and network distribution at NDTV, one of India’s leading news networks. Prior to that he held the role of executive director of affiliate sales for south Asia at Turner Broadcasting and was part of the initial core team which established the New Delhi office.

     

    Says Rahul: “It’s a real honour to join a network with such a strong commitment to building great partnerships with affiliates.  I look forward to expanding FIC’s distribution network and working closely with existing and new platform partners to build the business together.”

     

    He will be reporting in to executive vice-president of affiliate partnerships and syndication for Asia Pacific and the middle east.

     

    Giving company to Rahul as a new joinee at FIC is Helena Coe who hopped on board at FIC on 18 November as vice-president of syndication based out of Hong Kong.

     

    Helena has been given the task of working with channel and business development teams, as well as country managers to establish region-wide syndication policies and drive the distribution of FIC Asia’s sports, factual and entertainment content rights to multiple platforms.  She joins FIC from sports rights marketing agency Sportfive International, where she held the position of managing director of the Hong Kong office, leading activities for Sportfive’s TV rights in Hong Kong, Japan and Korea, and digital rights across Asia Pacific. Helena was also previously vice president of digital media, Asia Pacific at IMG Media.
