Now, our association with NBCUniversal is another step in consolidating our leadership position.”

NBC Universal International Distribution & Networks president Belinda Menendez  said, “With one of the world’s fastest growing major economies, we see tremendous growth potential in India and this deal reinforces how important this market is to NBC Universal. Fast 7 adds more muscle to its wheels with Djimon Hounsou

UMBAI: Djimon Hounsou is adding his muscle to Universal’s Fast & Furious 7, the studio has announced. He’ll join franchise veterans Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese, along with Kurt Russell and new baddie Jason Statham. The sequel helmed by James Wan is due to hit theaters 11 July. Moritz and Diesel return as producers.

No plot details have been unveiled yet, except that the film will return to Los Angeles after the previous six films were set in other locations. Co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum and creative executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project. This May’s Fast & Furious 6 was the highest-grossing pic in the series, with $788 million worldwide.

Hounsou can be seen next in Fox Searchlight’s Baggage Claim and follows that up with a busy 2014 that includes Legendary’s Seventh Son, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Fast & Furious 7 adds more star power

MUMBAI: Nathalie Emmanuel has been cast in Fast & Furious 7, out from Universal next July. The studio is keeping character descriptions under wraps, but a source close to the James Wan-directed project has revealed Emmanuel will be part of the pedal to the metal team led by Dom Toretto, reprised by Vin Diesel.

The British actress is currently seen on HBO’s Game Of Thrones in the recurring role of Missandei, personal aide to exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen. Emmanuel is represented by ICM Partners, A&J Artists in the UK, and Untitled Entertainment.

There have been rumors afloat that Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has also been signed on to play a small pivotal role in the seventh installment to the high adrenaline, high octane franchise. The franchise is only going bigger and badder.

  • Kurt Russell eyes part in Fast 7′

Kurt Russell eyes part in Fast 7′

With martial arts superstar Tony Jaa and a brand-new villain joining the new film (as well as Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson reprising their roles), the Fast and Furious franchise is developing into an ensemble cast of action icons in the same vein as the Expendables series. The addition of Russell makes sense then, as his filmography is rife with the same kind of testosterone-driven thrill rides. Ironically, Russell reportedly turned down a role in the original Expendables film.

Regardless, this is certainly a major win for the long-running Fast and Furious series and supports the style new director James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) will bring to the films. The filmmaker is taking over for Justin Lin – who directed the last four Fast and Furious adventures – and previously announced that he views the film as a “gritty 70s revenge thriller.” Fast Five previously reinvigorated the franchise by dropping the focus on street racing and including globe-trotting and heist elements. Therefore, Wan’s decision to bring in new blood while tweaking the tone a bit could go a long way to keeping the series fresh.
