    Liz Hurley to host fashion reality show ‘Project Catwalk’

    MUMBAI: Hollywood actress Liz Hurley who has been making noises in India due to her relationship with Arun Nayyar is all set to host a reality television show.

    Project Catwalk aims at unearthing new names in fashion design. The show is scheduled to launch in February 2006.

    Hurley will present the UK version of the Bravo series Project Runway, which will air on Sky One next year.

    The programme, which will be filmed in London, will see budding designers battling it out to make it to the industry, according to media reports.

    Established industry figures will comprise of a panel of judges. As the show progress each week will see elimination of 24 contenders.

    Finally, three finalists will display their work on Project Catwalk. The winners’ designs will be photographed by a world- renowned photographer for a top glossy magazine.

    Media reports further indicate that Hurley recently launched the Elizabeth Hurley Beach collection.

    MUMBAI: The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the apex industry body for the fashion design industry in India has appointed Rathi Vinay Jha as the Director General of the Council.

    Every year the FDCI organises the Fashion Week.

    Jha has spent nearly four decades working for the Indian government. She is the first lady to head the FDCI council since its formation in 1998.

    Her experience spans several sectors, particularly fashion, textiles and handicrafts. Jha played a key role in the setting up of National Institute of Fashion Technology (Nift), New Delhi, along with Pupul Jayakar in 1987. She served as Nift executive director from 1987-93 contributing to its position as India’s premier institute of fashion design.

    The institute has, over the years, exposed the Indian fashion industry to the world’s finest design expertise, management practices and manufacturing technologies leading to the Indian fashion boom over the last few years.

    Talking about her new role Jha said, “India has a centuries old history and heritage of designed products. Our ability in the sphere of design in the modern context is well recognised. The FDCI aims at the market promotion and capacity building for the fashion design fraternity & aims at overall development of the sector. We intend pursuing these aims with number of programmes and events to benefit the industry.”

    FDCI has also announced that Ritu Kumar has been elected as its board president. Lakme India Fashion Week 2005 will be held in New Delhi from 20-26 April 2005.

  • RED FM is the official radio partner for LIFWL ’03

    MUMBAI: The Living Media group owned RED FM is the official radio partner for Lakme India Fashion Week with Liberty (LIFWL).
    All other radio stations will be bound by restrictions during the fourth edition of the LIFWL 2003. Sony Entertainment Television (SET), which has secured the electronic rights of the largest and most high profile fashion event in the country, will however be given priority.
    Addressing the inaugural press briefing Fashion Design Council of India executive director Vinod Kaul and IMG event management director Zubin Sarkari said radio station crews would have to abide by very strictly marked out LIFWL guidelines.
    Besides RED FM, others shall not broadcast show-by-show commentary or similar coverage of any LIFWL 2003 material whether on a live or delayed basis, or any other material obtained whilst inside a LIFWL 2003 venue, including interviews, except with respect to press conferences or briefing sessions.
