“I will take this Mannat to Delhi!” says Shah Rukh

MUMBAI: Everyone knows that Shah Rukh Khan’s sprawling, sea-facing mansion ‘Mannat’ – where he stays with his family – is his prized possession and a point of envy for countless others! But a young contestant named Mannat took the King Khan by surprise when she came to perform at the Ahmedabad auditions of Zee TV’s tour in search of India’s happiest dancer – Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale. All of six years old, Mannat is the youngest contestant on the show! She mesmerized the panel of celebrity judges aka the ‘Agents of Happiness’ the moment she set foot on stage. Cute Mannat captivated the audience and the judges alike with her act on song “Manwa Lage Re”, which left SRK & Deepika spell-bound!

So taken was Deepika by this young one’s cuteness that Mannat was practically seen sitting in Deepika’s lap throughout the remaining half of the show. In sharp contrast to the previous contestants – a group of old ladies who made Deepika their bahu and even had her touching their feet, Mannat clearly called out to Deepika’s maternal instincts. She looked visibly heartbroken when she had to let go of Mannat.

Even as the celebrity panelists raved about the li’l wonder Mannat’s flawless ‘Dil Se’ act which touched everyone’s hearts, SRK mentioned sweetly “I will take this Mannat to Delhi” where the show will reach its exciting grand finale.

Having scaled the pinnacle of brilliance in aesthetic and skillful dancing with DID, Zee TV has recently introduced India to yet another home-grown format … a genre of dancing that calls out to every Indian to brush aside considerations such as technique and training, just forget about their inhibitions and dance straight from the heart! Partnering with India’s biggest superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment & ZEEL’s creative and production studio Essel Vision Productions Ltd, Zee TV brings viewers the biggest Diwali entertainment extravaganza with the hottest celebrity panel ever – Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale. The show will be India’s first ever multi-city dance tour in search of the happiest dancer! Conducted through a joyride on a special ‘Happy Dancing’ bus, the tour has started off in Mumbai, has made pit-stops at Ahmedabad, Indore and will head to Delhi in the coming days with a star-studded panel called the ‘Agents of Happiness’ comprising none other than Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Farah Khan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah.

To jump on to this joyride, stay tuned to ‘Maruti Suzuki Alto K 10 DilSe Naachein Indiawaale Co-powered by Askmebazaar.com & L’Oreal Paris Fall Repair 3X’ every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM, only on Zee TV.

“It’s all about Happy Dancing!”, says Shah Rukh Khan

MUMBAI: Having scaled the pinnacle of dancing with Dance India Dance (DID), Zee TV has now launched another talent show ‘Maruti Suzuki Alto K 10 Dil Se Naache Indiawale co-powered by Askmebazaar.com & L’Oreal Paris Fall Repair 3X’, in partnership with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment & ZEEL’s production arm Essel Vision.

To be hosted by the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan, the show is positioned as India’s first ever multi-city dance tour in search of the ‘happiest dancer’. Conducted through a joyride on a special ‘Happy Dancing’ bus, the tour will reach Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Indore in the coming days.

Present on the road-shows with the contestants will be the cast of the Happy New Year called the ‘Agents of Happiness’ including Shah Rukh Khan, DeepikaPadukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Farah Khan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah.

The tour will kick off in Mumbai on October 7 and the show will go on air from the first week of the month. Spanning across five weeks, the show selected contestants from each city will compete in a finale to win the title.

Coming up with yet another creative technique for marketing and promotion of his latest flick, King Khan said, “For our film, Happy New Year, we wanted to move away from the conventional format of city tours. This time we wanted to go out there and thank them by entertaining them and giving back the love they always give us. When Zee approached us with the concept of a show that celebrates the sheer happiness of dancing as against selecting the most trained and technically sound dancers, it instantly appealed.”

“The concept also holds well with our film. This will be our unique way of promoting our film in different cities. All of us will be performing and judging in this show. The idea is to spread cheer and happiness wherever we all go!” he added.

The participants on the show will be shortlisted from the ‘Happy Dancing’ videos that dance enthusiasts send in from across the country.

These dancers will then get the opportunity to showcase their acts in front of the star-studded panel. The show will serve the dual purpose of promotion for Happy New Year and festive entertainment for viewers.

Talking about the exclusive show, Zee TV programming head Namit Sharma said, “With Dance India Dance, we celebrated dance as an art form. With ‘Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale’, we celebrate it as a ‘heart’ form. We’re extremely pleased to partner with Shah Rukh in bringing this proposition alive.”

“The core idea behind the show is to look at dance as a means and an outlet to express all the joy, life, spunk and happiness you have within you. We are not looking for trained dancers who’re perfect with their technique, we’re looking for that contestant who can bring a smile on to people’s faces with their happy dancing,” he added.

With the hottest celebrity panel ever on Indian television, an all-new genre of dancing and the first-of-its-kind dance tour with a mission to spread joy and happiness across the country, the show promises to be the biggest entertainment extravaganza this Diwali.

Red Chilies will be returning to television production after almost three years. It has in the past produced shows like ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ (on Star Plus), the talk show hosted by director-choreographer Farah Khan, ‘Ye Parindey’ on Channel V, a chat show hosted by the designer duo of Abu Jaani and Sandeep Khosla on NDTV Good Times and ‘Ghar ki Baat’ on NDTV Imagine.

  • ‘Super Nani’ release date postponed to 31 October

‘Super Nani’ release date postponed to 31 October

MUMBAI: After Hollywood flick Fury starring Brad Pitt changed its India release date, Rekha’s next film Super Nani is next in line.

Previously scheduled to release on Diwali, the film has postponed its release date by a week to avoid getting eclipsed by Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year. The movie which was slated to release on 24 October will now be in theatres on 31 October.

The biggest highlight of the film is that it marks the comeback of veteran actress Rekha to the silver screen after a long gap. Directed by Indra Kumar, the small budget movie also stars Sharman Joshi, Anupam Kher, Indra Kumar’s daughter Shweta Kumar in lead.

“We have postponed our film and there are several reason behind this. One of the major reasons to push the film was that we want to avoid the clash with Shah Rukh Khan,” Kumar told IANS.

The promo of Super Nani was recently released along with Sonam Kapoor starrer Khoobsurat, which was the remake of Rekha’s 80s hit film by the same name.

Director Farah Khan’s big-budget multi-starrer Happy New Year will hit the screens during the Diwali week.

  • Deepika Padukone in a new avtar in ‘Lovely’

Deepika Padukone in a new avtar in ‘Lovely’

MUMBAI: While already in news for the ‘cleavage row’ and her acting in Finding Fanny, Deepika Padukone continues to stay in focus for a different reason this time.

After the sneak peak of the Deepika Padukone’s item song ‘Lovely’ was released on Happy New Year’s music launch, the official video of the hot and spicy number is finally out.

Composed by Dr. Zeus, ‘Lovely’ has been penned by Jiwan Mann, Kumaar and crooned by Kanika Kapoor, Ravindra Upadhyay, Miraya Varma and Fateh.

‘Lovely’ features the actress in an avatar that is poles-apart from what she is portrayed in other HNY songs like ‘Manwa Lage’ and ‘Indiawaale’. The song, being touted as the ‘item song of the year’, will be Padukone’s entry song in the film.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah, HNY is dance heist film and follows the story of six oddballs set to loot a ‘handful of diamonds’. Slated for a 24 October release, it is director Farah Khan’s third film with SRK after Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om.

The Happy New Year team, along with singers Yo Yo Honey Singh, and Kanika Kapoor are currently busy with their world tour.

  • Movies use social media to gain traction

Movies use social media to gain traction

NEW DELHI: At a time when feature films are lucky if they last one week at the theatres, the social media has made it possible for them to reach more people through mediums like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and just plain e-mail.

Two forthcoming movies have already broken records as far the popularity of their trailers on social media goes: Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Mary Kom, and Red Chillies Entertainments and Farah Khan directed Happy New Year.

The trailer of Mary Kom has had a current viewership of over 4.3 million. The trailer of the biopic based on the life of the five-time World Championship and Olympic medalist is one of the most successful trailers of all time.

Overwhelmed with the response, Omung Kumar who makes his directorial debut with the film said, “First we were overwhelmed with the response to the first look of the film. The trailer touched people and many people called to tell me that they cried after seeing it. The most touching response for me was from a lady from the north east, who had somehow found out my mobile number and called to say how seeing the trailer, she felt so proud and felt grateful for what it was attempting to do for women, sports and most importantly, people from the region.”

Priyanka Chopra who has enacted the title role said, “I was in shock after the response to the first look of the poster itself! I remember we were shooting in Turkey and I tweeted it and went back to shooting. By the time I came back, my phone was flooded with SMSs and over 3,500 Twitter messages loving it. I thought my phone would explode. The nicest response I got post the trailer was when Mary called me and said, `My kids saw you and thought it is me.’ For me, if I could convince a mother’s children despite not looking like her, it made me proud.” The biggest compliment that came the actress’ way however was from Farhan Akhtar when he said, `Mary ko Milkha ka salaam.”

Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “Mary Kom’s story is an inspiring one that touched my heart. Not many films are based on biopics of living people, so this is a rare experiment. I am extremely proud of it.”

Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mary Kom stars Priyanka Chopra and Darshan Kumar in the lead. The movie will be released on 5 September.

Red Chillies Entertainments claimed that the views of the trailer of its Happy New Year from all platforms crossed a record breaking number of four million in 24 hours.

The first trailer to be launched on Facebook, became the most viewed movie trailer on Facebook Native Player across the globe with 1.5 million trailer views, 2.8 million post interaction and over 18 million FB users reached, and over 360,000 likes for the trailer which is the highest ever.

On Twitter, it had 1.5 billion impressions only on 14 August and five hashtags trending of Happy New Year.

It had over two million views across various YouTube partner channels. It became the first film to send a trailer via WhatsApp.

The trailer on the DTH platform Tata Sky reached over 13 million subscribers and each one had to watch the channel 100 when they switched on their TV sets before they could go to any other channel of their choice.

Airtel WAP had over 15 million visitors every day while over 300,000 fans received it via SMS service (missed call facility). Over 25,000 fans received the trailer via email.

While most of the films opt for the conventional YouTube platform, the trailer of Happy New Year slated to release around Diwali was first launched on Facebook’s native video player using an application wherein the trailer was not only launched on the Facebook page of the film but also the timelines of all the users who subscribed to the app.

“In keeping with the tradition of innovation established by Red Chillies, we were delighted to launch the trailer of HNY for the first time across multiple platforms. This was also done to meet the demands of fans who are consuming talent in ways that suit them. This has given the trailer an unprecedented footprint and delighted the fans,” said RCE CEO Venky Mysore.

The trailer was launched on the native video player of Twitter with personalised messages from the cast of the film. “Red Chillies and the cast of Happy New Year understand the value of developing live, personal and interactive connections with their audience, which is only possible on Twitter. From the entire cast and crew sharing every moment of film production on Twitter via their personal handles to their launching personalised trailers and posters on Twitter, Happy New Year has set a new national and global standard in the movie business,” said Twitter India market director Rishi Jaitley.

The trailer was also launched on the conventional platform of YouTube on all channels of the partners (Music distributors T-Series and film distributors Yash Raj Films) of the film along with Red Chillies’ official channel.

  • ‘Happy New Year’ trailer to be on Whatsapp

‘Happy New Year’ trailer to be on Whatsapp

MUMBAI: In keeping with the tradition of innovatively marketing its films, Red Chillies Entertainments yet again comes out with a unique way to promote its movie ‘Happy New Year.’

For the first time an Indian film will send its trailer via WhatsApp to the users of the application. Simply by giving a missed call or dropping in a WhatsApp message at +91 9819020202, the audiences will get the trailer on their mobiles and tablets. Also, the restriction by WhatsApp on a broadcast message has specially been removed for this campaign.

Talking on the first-of-its-kind trailer release, Red Chillies Entertainment CEO Venky Mysore said, “As a company there is a special focus on constantly improving fan experience through innovation. Whether it was the first look of the movie at the beginning of the year through one of the biggest Twitter innovations with fans receiving customised posters from their favourite artists, which received close to a billion impressions as a campaign, or the new innovations with WhatsApp and Twitter for the upcoming movie – ‘Happy New Year’, our endeavour is to delight fans.”

“With over 50 million active users on WhatsApp in India who every day share millions of videos and images with individual friends and groups it was an obvious choice to use WhatsApp as a platform. The only challenge was the restriction by WhatsApp where a broadcast message cannot be sent to more than 250 friends/WhatsApp users but WhatsApp has specially removed this restriction for this campaign,” Mysore added.

Directed by Farah Khan, the eagerly-awaited ‘Happy New Year’ brings back Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan together, after their last blockbuster `Chennai Express.’ The movie also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and Boman Irani and has been shot in Dubai. The trailer is scheduled to release on 14 August 2014, on the eve of Independence Day.

The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainments and distributed by Yash Raj Films worldwide. The film will release this Diwali in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages across the globe.

  • Sony’s weekday bet with ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’

Sony’s weekday bet with ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’

MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television (SET) seems to be focusing strongly on its strength, which is in the non-fiction space. After a victorious innings of four entertaining seasons that packaged non-stop entertainment, the channel is back with Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega with its fifth edition. Starting from 12 May, the channel is betting big by airing the show for five days a week at 9pm.

With its maverick judges, Anu Malik and Farah Khan spicing up this season, the show will also have the gorgeous Mona Singh hosting the show with her impeccable style and grace. Joining Mona will be her hilarious co-host, Krushna Abhishek, who with his funny antics will ratchet up the humour quotient and take the madness to a whole new level.

Produced by Wizcraft Entertainment, it will see acts ranging from heart-stopping bike gymnastics to an international illusion act straight from France. Handpicked contestants from all over the country will display their extraordinary skills and talents at the auditions, and the best among them voted by the audience and the judges, will win Rs 11,111 on the spot in cash. Additionally, the best performer of each week will receive a cash prize of Rs 1, 00,000.

Speaking about the launch, Sony SVP and head marketing Gaurav Seth explains: “Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega is a show that celebrates extraordinary talents in ordinary people and the uniqueness and the sheer variety of entertainment in India. This season has lots more entertainment and breathtaking acts that will leave the viewers amazed. We are thrilled to yet again have the unbeatable team of Anu Malik and Farah Khan who will be judging the show for its fifth year. We are offering a differentiated and entertaining option in primetime viewing and we hope our viewers enjoy watching it.”

“Wizcraft is proud to be back with the fifth season of Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, a show that showcases unique entertainers where performers get a chance to win some money at every step unlike other shows where only one wins in the finale. Along with the baap of entertainers Anu Malik and Farah Khan, adding a freshness to show will be the new host Krushna along with Mona, whose chemistry is infectious. We are sure this season of Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega will take the entertainment quotient to another level”, opines Wizcraft International Entertainment creative head Kailash Gandhi.

The show is going to face hard hitting competition with shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus, Beintehaa on Colors, Chidiya Ghar on Sab, Nadaan Parinde on Life OK and Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV.

  • Sony brings back ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’

Sony brings back ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’

MUMBAI: For four fun-filled seasons, the show continued to dish out non-stop entertainment apart from serving as a platform for ordinary Indians with extraordinary talent.

Two years after it went off air, Sony Entertainment is bringing back its talent hunt, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega by popular demand. Produced by Wizcraft International Entertainment, the show is based on American reality series, 30 seconds to Fame, where contestants continue to strut their stuff for a minute without the judges interrupting them.

In its fifth season, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega will be aired from 9pm to 10 pm Monday to Friday, replacing Jee Le Zara and Nandini in the bargain from 12 May. It is slated to run for two months.

This time, like all the previous seasons, will be judged by Farah Khan and Anu Malik while Mona Singh and Krushna Abhishek will be the hosts. Two promos of the show have already hit the television screens. Auditions are on since January, taking audiences through thrills and chills even as contestants show off their special skills in an emotionally charged environment.

With so many talent shows crowding the small screen, how will the new season net eyeballs?

“The format of the show is going to remain the same. But we are making this season more interesting for the viewers. I think the quality of talent that you are going to see, the kind of interaction you are going to see with the judges and the talent, the attitude and the approach of the judges to the talent… will be different,” says Wizcraft International Entertainment director Sabbas Joseph. “I think as the standards across India have grown, you will see those standards getting reflected in the show and especially the quality of entertainment. Our aim is to make this season more exciting and sharper.”

While Sony is the only channel which has experimented with all genres, it continues to struggle at number six position of TAM TV ratings. Months ago when NP Singh was elevated to the position of CEO from COO, he made a promise to make changes in the channel’s programming and work on bringing the channel back to its now lost top position.

Accordingly, Singh changed focus from fiction to tried and tested non-fiction properties to buoy Sony’s image. A case in point is Boogie Woogie, which was dragged out of its closet and re-launched and which did pretty well for itself and the channel.

However, a highly placed media planner expressed the view that Sony should tag itself as a ‘non-reality’ based channel. “I think its fiction shows need some rest. The fifth season is going to air at a time when other channels are buzzing with fiction properties. Though, the plan to air a daily reality show is okay, but how are you going to sell it to viewers, who have already booked their tickets for dramas. To get viewers on-board, firstly, they have to produce good content and secondly, promote that good content in a strong way.”

Whether or not Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega will ratchet up some much needed numbers for Sony, only time will tell…

  • The call of IPL7….

    The call of IPL7….

MUMBAI: The call of the IPL so divine that you have to be there for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This year’s campaign by Sony MAX for the IPL is with a tagline that revolves around the concept of ‘The call of the IPL’.

“It is as if you cannot refuse a call from the god. In the same way, when IPL calls, you have to be there,” is how Sony MAX and Sony MIX executive vice president and business head Neeraj Vyas explains the thought behind the campaign for IPL7.

Vyas, the Guest Editor of the day at Indiantelevision.com, was speaking on the finer details that go into the making of the campaign to promote IPL. MAX has the broadcast rights for the twenty-20 cricket tournament.

“You have to be there when IPL calls you,” reiterates Vyas.

Sony’s IPL campaign will be launched towards the end of the first week of March.

The core theme of the IPL campaign continues to be entertainment but the broadcaster’s challenge is to every year come up with a bigger and bigger campaign idea.

    ‘Sirf Dekhneka Nahi’

In 2013, Sony took its campaign to a much higher level bringing in a celebrity in choreographer and director Farah Khan.

‘Sirf Dekhneka Nahi’ was the punch-line of the 2013 campaign featuring Farah Khan, urging people to express themselves whenever a wicket falls or a boundary or a six is hit.

The campaign for IPL season 7 is expected to be a step ahead of 2013 campaign. “IPL is an entertainment vehicle which appeals to families, friends, men, women and youth. It cuts across different target groups. And this was the brief given to the creative agency (Havas Communications),” says Vyas.

The preparation for the campaign started in November 2013 with the first creative meeting. “This was followed by several meetings to come out with that one idea, that one hook to develop the campaign,” Vyas points out.

While five 30 second creatives have been made with common people, one 60 second creative has been made, which will have a glimpse of Farah Khan. The music for the campaign has been composed by the duo Vishal and Shekhar.

It was JWT that worked on Sony’s IPL campaign in 2013.

So why hasn’t the campaign come out as yet? Vyas says, “Well, this time, neither the venue nor the dates have so far been announced. But, we will be launching the campaign towards the end of the first week of March.”

    MAX’s EARLIER CAMPAIGNS

So, as people eagerly wait for the new campaign, we at indiantelevision.com, take you through the journey of past IPL campaigns.

Sony MAX has since the first edition of IPL, which started in 2008, been promoting the new format to build an audience.

What started with IPL being ‘Manoranjan Ka Baap’ with unknown faces, the campaign has grown bigger and better over the years.

The ‘Manoranjan Ka Baap’ campaign, directed by Rajesh Krishnan of Soda Films, was a spoof from the 80s films, where the wife and her two sons are taunted every now and then for their missing father.

While the villagers keep asking the mother and the sons ‘Kab aayenge Manoj aur Ranjan Ka Baap?’, the trio believed that he would come some day. And then when the wife gives up hope, her sons come running and point at the TV set which says, ‘Aa Gaya Manoranjan Ka Baap.’ The promo that got around 78,377 views on YouTube was aimed at positioning IPL as the ultimate entertainer.

The second season saw two promos under the tagline ‘Ek Desh Ek Junoon.’ While one promo shows how god made one land, but man created boundaries, the other promo shows how one billion people are doing the same thing at the same time. It shows how people rejoice over a ‘Six’ and get sad on a ‘wicket’, but all these emotions are depicted at the same time.

The promo was created in-house and took the communication one level up from the first season which had proved that the format was accepted across.

IPL by its third season had built a huge fanfare and while the second season was played in South Africa, the format was back in India in its third year.  The channel went all out promoting the series and came out with the campaign ‘Saare Jahan Se Achha’.

The video showed a red carpet laid for the players belonging to IPL teams from various cities. The video became hugely popular and this was quite evident from the 412,650 views it garnered on YouTube.

‘Bharat Bandh’ was the message the channel gave out to its viewers as the tournament stepped into season four. To send this message, seven promos were created.

One showing how a politician was left wondering who had announced a 51-day ‘Bandh’ and the second promo showed a goon being upset with his business going down, considering there was a ‘Bandh’. The third showed a ‘Hot’ lady stepping out of the train and looking for help on the station but there was no one there to help.

The fourth promo involved two female neighbours, who for long had hated each other but now have come together saying ‘nafrat bandh’ with ‘Bharat Bandh’.  The campaign was conceptualised by JWT and it too became popular.

In the fifth season of IPL, MAX got more personal with its promos. The campaign was under the tagline ‘Mauka’, for a get-together for family and friends.

The campaign saw five promos doing the rounds: ‘Mauka Phuphaji’ which garnered around 17,289 views on YouTube, ‘Mauka Stadium’ which saw approximately 45,229 views on YouTube, ‘Mauka Family’, with around 19,233 hits, ‘Mauka Father’ with around 17,898 views and ‘Mauka Friends’ with 15,663 views. The campaign was based on the idea of how IPL had the power to get people together.

For the first five seasons, MAX roped in common faces, with no actors. But, as the game grew bigger, the channel knew that its campaign has to be at the same scale. It was then that in the season six of IPL, Farah Khan was roped in to promote its campaign ‘Sirf Dekhneka Nahi.’

The campaign had come from the insight that cricket is not just a game in this country but a passion that moves every Indian to get up to celebrate and dance.

And to promote this thought, Farah Khan established three unique signature dance moves each for a four, a six and a wicket. Through the campaign, MAX invited the audience to shed all inhibitions and groove to the tune of Pepsi IPL 2013.

The campaign featured three short films, three dance instruction videos and one big grand film. To make the campaign a nationwide sensation and to add to Farah’s dance moves, the channel had also roped in music director–singer duo Vishal and Shekhar who composed the tune for the Pepsi IPL 2013 campaign.

The campaign was created and conceptualised by JWT and directed and filmed by ad film director Rajesh Saathi of Keroscene Films.

Talking on the last year’s campaign and Farah Khan, Vyas says, “Farah Khan fit the bill completely. She directly connected with the audience and she cut across audience groups. She is a choreographer, a director, an actor and a mother. And she does all this with so much perfection. So when a Farah Khan says, ‘Sirf Dekhneka Nahi’, people know she means it. Also because she is a director herself, she could add so many other bits to the campaign to make it look even better.”

    PROMOTING VIEWERSHIP

“Since the inception of the game, marketing has been one of IPL’s strengths, and both TV viewership and stadium attendance were promoted simultaneously. One reason for IPL’s success has been that multiple entities (tournament owner, broadcaster, team owners, etc.) all promoted IPL, while ICL was promoted by Zee alone (as it played all those roles),” informs PipalMajik CEO Chandradeep (CD) Mitra.

How different will be MAX’s IPL 2014 campaign?

Pepsi, the title sponsor of IPL 7, has brought on board actor Ranbir Kapoor as an intern for promoting Pepsi IPL 2014.

MAX will surely think bigger for this year’s campaign.

For PipalMajik’s Mitra, marketers need to constantly promote their brands to break the clutter and keep their brands top-of-mind. “This is especially true for seasonal brands and time-bound events. Sports events particularly need to drum up excitement to engage fans. There has been some evidence of IPL viewership plateauing or declining in the last couple of years. This year, post last year’s scandals, and likely scheduling of matches outside India, the need for the IPL brand to be rejuvenated and promoted is even greater,” he adds.

Also, with other major sporting events like Football World Cup and T20 World Cup competing for sports lovers’ limited time and attention, this year “IPL definitely needs major promotion this year,” says Madison Media COO Karthik Lakshminarayan.

    IMPACT OF CAMPAIGNS

Talking about the previous campaigns, Lakshminarayan says, “The campaigns so far have helped the channel garner good impressions in terms of ratings. Almost all of the marketing efforts are realised in the first week of the series as that draws in the viewers. So one can safely say that the ratings in the first week is largely the result of the media campaign that the channel runs. Post that the ratings are dependent on the matches played thereafter and the results etc.”

So while there are loyalists for the series, there is also a huge chunk that is attracted to the game through the marketing campaign. “The campaign drives on emotions. There has always been general excitement around the marketing campaign of IPL, this year should be bigger,” adds Lakshminarayan

The first leg of IPL 2014 mostly will be held in South Africa, and the second leg in India. “Keeping this in mind, the communication has to be more engaging this time. For me digital media should play a very critical part in the channel’s communication about the game,” says MPG planning head – west Soumya Sarkar.

For Sarkar, it is not the brand ambassador that will drive the communication this year. “The channel has to keep interacting with the audience. So it needs to come up with more contests, fan clubs and online chatting among others to keep the viewers hooked,” he adds.

The first ever ‘Stree Sanman Award’ goes to Farah Khan at Lux Cozi Zee Cine Awards 2014

MUMBAI: It is rather challenging for a woman to emerge as a power to reckon with in a field dominated by men. In Bollywood, more often than not, women are often relegated to donning the greasepaint and serving as an arm candy for the film hero. Barring the role of an actress, most profiles within the film industry such as editor, director, producer or technician are ruled by men. For having managed to find her own footing in the frenzied world of Bollywood and carving a distinct niche for herself first as a successful choreographer, then as a film director and producer, Farah Khan recently bagged a distinctive award at the Lux Cozi Zee Cine Awards 2014. The ‘Stree Samman Award’ is a first-of-its-kind initiative at a film awards show aimed at recognizing the contribution made by industrious, enterprising women in a male-dominated industry.

Farah received the prestigious award at the hands of veteran film-maker, the Great Showman Subhash Ghai. As she went on stage to accept the award, Farah said, “They say behind every successful man, there is a woman. But let me tell you, behind this successful woman, there are a hundred men.” She went on to thank all the men who have stood by her side as a pillar of strength in the course of her journey in Bollywood. She also thanked Shah Rukh for having been a mentor and a dear friend. Subhash Ghai thanked the Zee group for coming up with this unique award.

Farah’s first stint as a choreographer began with ‘Pehla Nasha’ from Aamir Khan starrer, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’. As a choreographer, Farah has received 25 prestigious awards in the course of her prolific career. Later, her penchant for entertaining the masses saw her direct and produce popular blockbusters like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. She is easily amongst the most successful commercial female filmmakers in Bollywood. As a director, her movie Om Shanti Om became the highest grossing Hindi film ever at the time of its release. Currently in the news for her upcoming multi-starrer ‘Happy New Year’, Farah is delighted on receiving this recognition. She tweeted, saying she was grateful to the jury of Lux Cozi Zee Cine Awards 2014 for choosing her for her efforts in the industry.
