  • PRCAI elects new managing committee; to undertake initiatives on raising the bar of excellence

    MUMBAI: The Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI) has announced the new managing committee for the year 2005 – 2006. Madison Public Relations CEO Veena Gidwani has been appointed as president of PRCAI.

    In its third year, the PRCAI office bearers aim to provide an ‘institutional’ structure and focus to the public relations industry.

     

     
    The formation of the new committee was necessitated by former PRCAI president Ajay Kakar who is now moving to ADA Enterprises from O&M.

    Gidwani said, “PRCAI will focus on bringing standards and professionalism into the business. An interesting and active calendar of activities has been planned for the year. We also plan to introduce the first ever ‘Certification Programme’ for practicing professionals called PR-Sat.”

     
     
    PRCAI vice president Nandita Lakshmanan added, “This will ensure that the talent working in the industry is consistently investing in upgrading their skills and clients continue to receive high quality service.”

    To ensure a wider member body representation and faster adoption of standards, new roles in the various regions have been created and office bearers elected by the general body.

    The president, vice president, secretary and the four regional chairpersons will now constitute the managing committee. Prema Sagar, principal and founder Genesis Public Relations and founding president, PRCAI continues as a member of the managing committee as the past president for a period of one year.

  • Hong Kong’s animation whiz kids feted at Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards

    HONG KONG: The best talent that Hong Kong has to offer in the digital entertainment arena. These whiz kids (expectedly most are young geeks) were recognised during the presentation ceremony of the third Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards (HKDEEA).
     

    The awards are jointly organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association and the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association.
     
     

    Speaking at the ceremony, the Hong Kong government’s chief information officer Howard Dickson said no efforts had been spared in supporting the development of the digital entertainment industry over the last two years. That includes close to HK$ 100 million pumped into areas such as the provision of high-end equipment at the Digital Media Centre, R&D projects, marketing activities, professional development and training programmes.

    Over 100 entries were in the running for the Computer Animation, Digital Effects and Entertainment Software Awards under various categories. Entries were judged according to originality, creativity, entertainment value, technology and business potential.

    Winners of the third HKDEEA were:

    Professional Category

        Best Computer Animation (Short Film) – Langham Place Launch (Menfond Electronic Art and Computer Design).
        Best Computer Animation (Feature Film) Mcdull, Prince de la Bun (Bliss Pictures)
        Best Computer / TV Entertainment Software Little Fighter Online (U1 Technology Co.)
        Best Mobile Entertainment Software – Girl (Artificial Life).

    Honours also went to Outstanding Student, Outstanding Start-up Company and the Cyberport Award.
