    PVR INOX unveils a cinematic treat for Halloween enthusiasts

    Mumbai: Halloween, the season of thrills, chills, and supernatural wonders, is upon us. It’s that time of year when the air becomes crisp, leaves crunch underfoot, and the world is draped in hues of orange and black. As the days grow shorter and the nights darker, a sense of mystique descends upon us. This year, PVR INOX invites cinema enthusiasts to celebrate this eerie occasion like never before by announcing the Halloween Film Festival.  From 27 October to 2 November, PVR INOX will host a spine-tingling Halloween Film Festival across select multiplexes, showcasing movies like Evil Dead, The Forever Purge, Exorcist, Nun 2, Talk To Me and the first and second edition of The Quiet Place. Taking the Halloween spirit a notch higher, PVR INOX has transformed a few multiplexes into a realm of all things dark and eerie with Halloween décor from 28 October to 2 November. The theatres include PVR Promenade, Delhi, PVR Logix, Noida, PVR Kurla, Mumbai, INOX Malad, Mumbai, Phoenix Market City, Bangalore.  

    Speaking about the Halloween Film Festival, PVR INOX Ltd co-CEO Gautam Dutta expressed his excitement, saying, “Halloween is that magical time of year when we get to wholeheartedly embrace our love for the supernatural and all things spooky. It’s a fantastic festival that has inspired countless captivating movies. At PVR INOX, we are absolutely thrilled to bring our patrons a truly unique cinematic experience during this Halloween festival. It’s a time for our audiences to revel in the thrill of these specially curated films and the immersive atmosphere we’ve created.”  

    In addition to the spine-tingling décor, PVR INOX will host a Witch Cosplay event on 31 October at Delhi and Mumbai cinemas that are decked in Halloween décor. Patrons are encouraged to embrace their inner witches and wizards and participate in this magical experience. To make Halloween even sweeter, PVR INOX has partnered with the renowned House of Candy brand to distribute candies in four cinemas in Delhi. On 31 October, between 6 pm and 11 pm, patrons at PVR Vegas, PVR Promenade, PVR Logix, and INOX AIPL can indulge in a candy extravaganza, adding a delightful twist to their Halloween celebration.

    Sony Pictures ends 2012 with total gross of Rs 2.17 billion in India

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures India has ended the year 2012 with the best year ever for a Hollywood studio at the Indian box office. With 12 titles releasing in the year, Sony Pictures finished the year with a total gross of Rs 2.17 billion at the Indian box-office.
    Last year, Sony Pictures India also had the two top opening weekends of all time for Hollywood films in India with The Amazing Spider-Man (3D) at #1 (Rs 340 million opening weekend) and Skyfall at #2 (Rs 275 million opening weekend).
    Both the films also reached their respective franchise lifetime highs. Half of Sony Pictures‘ titles in 2012 were released in four languages each and an additional one in two languages. Moreover, half the titles were released in 3D.
    The Amazing Spider-Man also had the widest release so far reaching a record 650 cities.
    Commented Sony Pictures India managing director Kercy Daruwala, "The Indian market continues to grow steadily with an increased interest in Hollywood films across languages and regions and parallel growth in the number of screens. We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, and the top contributor to this market‘s growth for Hollywood."
    Sony Pictures‘ line-up this year includes Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained, M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth starring Jaden Smith and Will Smith, Elysium starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, Roland Emmerich‘s White House Down, Tom Hanks starrer Captain Philips and returns of successful franchises in Evil Dead, Grown Ups 2 and box office sensations The Smurfs 2 (3D).

    Sam Raimi remaking Poltergeist for MGM

    MUMBAI: Sam Raimi, the filmmaker who got his start with Evil Dead, is all set produce the remake of the 1982 film Poltergeist for MGM. The original was made by Steven Spielberg.
     
    It is also clear that Raimi will not direct the remake but will help oversee the search for a helmer. David Lindsay-Abaire, who had earlier worked on Disney‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful for the producer will write the script that focuses on a family whose house was built on a holy site and their daughter is abducted by the ghosts.
     
    The remake of Poltergeist is one of the two horror remakes on which MGM is in active development, the other being Carrie.

    Raimi is currently producing a remake of his Evil Dead that is being directed by Fede Alvarez. The film is scheduled to release on 12 April 12.

    Jane Levy bags lead role in Evil Dead remake

    MUMBAI: Jane Levy of Suburgatory fame has won the lead role in Fede Alvarez-directed movie Evil Dead.
     
    Levy is replacing Lily Collins, who has opted out from the remake citing schedule issues.
     
    Levy will take over the role of Mia in the movie. The role was formally played by Collins.
     
    She will be casted along with Shiloh Fernandez who will play the male lead in the movie. Fernandez is no longer stranger to the woods as he was also in the horror film ‘Red Riding Hood‘, playing Peter.
     
    The production of the movie, ‘Evil dead‘ will begin sometime in March in New Zealand. The movie is slated to release on 12 April 2013.

    Sony, FilmDistrict to distribute Evil Dead remake

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and FilmDistrict in association with Ghost House Pictures will distribute the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead to be directed by Fede Alvarex.

    While Sony will handle the worldwide distribution, except for France and the UK, FilmDistrict will handle the distribution in North America.

    The film will be produced by Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead star) and the original director Sam Raimi.

    For 30 years, Sam, Bruce and I have been looking for the right home where we could return the deadites to the big screen,” Tapert has been quoted to have said. “Amy Pascal and Jeff Blake at Sony and Peter Schlessel at FilmDistrict have always been incredible partners who share our passion for great storytelling as well as our obsession for scaring the pants off the audience. Together, we are looking forward to terrorizing a whole new generation,” he added.

    The shooting of the film is expected to star next year.
