Eveready’s toy truck sparks joy this Durga Puja

MUMBAI: When it comes to lighting up festivals, Eveready has gone beyond batteries and straight into hearts. This Durga Puja, the brand has built the Ultima Bahon, the largest AA battery-powered remote-controlled toy truck, to carry the idol of Goddess Durga into a celebration organised by underprivileged children in Kolkata.

The playful creation, powered by eight Eveready Ultima AA batteries, has already entered both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records. But more than the feat of engineering, it has turned into a symbol of simple joy, bridging the gap between big-budget pandals and smaller, heartfelt pujas.

“Durga Puja is a festival of joy and togetherness,” said Eveready Industries India Ltd CEO Anirban Banerjee. “With Ultima Bahon, we wanted to bring smiles to children and give them a story they can cherish forever.”

The toy truck, designed with miniature depictions of Durga’s traditional bahons: the lion, owl, swan, peacock and mouse, is a nod to tradition wrapped in innovation. Actress Priyanka Sarkar, present at the unveiling, called it “a reminder that celebrations don’t need to be huge to be special, sometimes the simplest joys create the most unforgettable memories.”

Supported by the Vikramshila Education Resource Society, the initiative saw Eveready sponsor the entire puja for children up to Class 4, ensuring that their devotion shone just as brightly as the city’s glittering pandals.

Recognised as the largest toy truck of its kind, the Ultima Bahon will also be on display at the 95 Pally Puja Association during the festival. For pandal hoppers chasing lights and spectacle, it’s a gentle reminder: sometimes the most powerful celebrations run on nothing more than a few batteries and a lot of heart.

Eveready spreads ‘Dudhiya Roshani’ in Kumbh

MUMBAI: Eveready gave a unique facelift to the Kumbh Mela-the largest conglomeration of humans on this planet-by welcoming to Prayagraj thousands of devotees with vast number of professional grade LED streetlights, which lit up the city in ‘Brilliant and Efficient "Dudhiya Roshani”’.

The tender to fix the lights at one of the biggest festivals in country and globally was bagged by Eveready due to its technically superior products and competitive price range.

Emphasising on the importance of amenities for the Kumbh mela, Eveready Industries India Ltd (EIIL) senior vice president, sales and marketing Anil Bajaj said, “With a deep rooted mantra of making a difference to the devotees thronging the mega spectacle called the ‘Kumbh’, EIIL helped the Kumbh authorities in managing the smooth conduct of the mela by way of facilitating Sangam bound direction boards, changing rooms for ladies, police watch towers and tall standing media towers to name a few.”

He further added, “Time and again, we have adopted several methods to positively impact the experience of devotees coming to this mela. The brand has established a strong connect through extensive on-ground activities.”

  • Eveready forays into confectionery business

    Eveready forays into confectionery business

MUMBAI: With a view to scale up its fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) portfolio of products, dry-cell-battery maker Eveready Industries India Ltd (EIIL) is all set to enter the confectionery business with Jollies, its new fruit chew candies.

The move is a part of its diversification plan and the brand will foray into the Rs 9000 crore confectionary segment with the product. Priced at Re 1, Jollies will have higher fruit content and lower sugar content.

EIIL said that the fast-growing fruit chew segment, estimated to be a Rs 400 crore market, will double in the next three to four years and expects to become a significant player in the segment by making the under-penetrated category available across urban and rural India through its distribution network.

EIIL managing director Amritanshu Khaitan said, “The product being launched has a high percentage of natural fruit pulp making it a preferred healthier option to pure sugar candy. Candies are a mass-market product and can be carried in the Eveready vans reaching a million outlets. This brings in a major competitive advantage for us and we believe we can become a major player in the fast-growing confectionery market in the next 3-5 years with only investments required for branding.”

The company has over 400 distributors and 42 distribution centres across India. The company is working on an asset-light model involving outsourcing and believes it can add significant turnover and profitability with an entry into the segment.

EIIL is a manufacturer of dry-cell batteries, flashlights, lighting and packet tea. The company reported 55 per cent revenue from dry cell batteries, 14 per cent from flashlights, 22 per cent from lighting and electrical and 9 per cent from other segments in financial year 2016-17.
