    Volleyball Federation of India partners with Eurosport India for IVL

    Mumbai: Volleyball Federation of India on Monday announced its partnership with Eurosport India for the inaugural season of the Indian Volleyball League (IVL). Tentatively scheduled to kickstart around June-July, the IVL will be the premier volleyball league in the country, sanctioned both by the Asian Volleyball Confederation and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

    The IVL also proposes to have six to eight new franchisees representing various cities across India. The teams will have a mix of top players from the Indian national team along with talented players from various states as well as a host of top international players in its roster for the inaugural season.

    “We are delighted to be playing a role in popularising the fast-paced exciting sport of Volleyball across India and helping Indian volleyball reach to sports fans across the globe,” said Discovery Inc head of Eurosport India and distribution- South Asia Ruchir Jain. “The Indian Volleyball League is definitely the future that the sport deserves, and we are not only excited to play our part in this but also would commend the Volleyball Federation of India for their vision in making Indian volleyball truly global in nature.”

    The proposed Indian Volleyball League will be an annual feature in the global volleyball calendar. The process of applying for ownership of new franchises through the official website of the Indian Volleyball League & Volleyball Federation of India will be announced soon.

    “It is a momentous occasion for Indian Volleyball, and we are thrilled to have a globally respected brand like Discovery on board with us. Together we aim to uplift the sport’s standard in the near future as one of top international volleyball leagues globally,” commented Volleyball Federation of India MP and president prof (Dr) Achyuta Samanta.

    Apart from the Eurosport India channel, viewers will also be able to live-stream the league on discovery+ app.

    Eurosport India bags broadcasting rights for Quadrangular T20I Oman series

    Mumbai: Eurosport India, Discovery Network’s premium sports brand has announced the acquisition of the broadcast rights for the upcoming Quadrangular T20I- Oman 2022 series. The tournament will be available to watch on Eurosport, Eurosport HD, and streaming platform – discovery+.

    The matches will be played in a round-robin format where the four teams will face each other over a course of four days. The series is scheduled to take place from 11-14 February, with two matches being played back-to-back on 11, 12, and 14 February. 

    The series will act as the last preparation ground for all four teams, ahead of the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier Group A, scheduled to take place later this month. Hosts Oman will play along with Ireland, Nepal, and United Arab Emirates. Among the four teams, Nepal is currently the highest-ranked at 12th place in the ICC Men’s T20I team rankings, followed by Ireland, UAE and Oman at 13th, 15th and 17th positions respectively.

    The Quadrangular T20I Oman series will start the campaign on an opening day with Ireland locking horns with the United Arab Emirates in the morning match. It will be followed by the hosts, Oman taking on Nepal.

    The Quadrangular T20I – Oman 2022 – M1 – Ireland vs UAE and Quadrangular T20I – Oman 2022 M2 – Oman vs Nepal can be watched live on Eurosport and Eurosport HD on 11 February, 11:15 a.m and 3:30 p.m onwards, respectively. The Eurosport channel can also be streamed on the discovery+ app.

    Eurosport India acquires Hero Futsal Club Championship broadcasting rights

    Mumbai: Eurosport India has bagged the broadcasting rights for the inaugural season of the Hero Futsal Club Championship 2021-22. The tournament will take place in Delhi between 5 and 13 November at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

    The Hero Futsal Club Championship is a national level Futsal tournament in India. The 2021-22 Tournament to be played in a round-robin format will feature a total of 16 teams, divided into four groups. The highest-placed team from each group will make it to the semi-final to be played in a knockout format amongst the four teams on 12 November. Winners will be decided on 13 November during the grand finale.

    This will be Eurosport India’s third association with AIFF this year, after the FIFA friendly matches of India against Oman and UAE and the SAFF Championship 2021. 

    “It’s great to have Eurosport as our broadcast partners for the inaugural edition of the Hero Futsal Club Championship 2021-22. We have already been part of a fruitful partnership with EuroSport previously, and hope that this collaboration will continue going forward as well,” said AIFF Leagues CEO Sunando Dhar.

    Eurosport India secures Tokyo Paralympics 2020 broadcast rights

    Mumbai: The Paralympic Committee of India has awarded the rights to broadcast the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games to Eurosport India set to take place between 24 August and 5 September. The association marks the first time for Discovery-owned sports channel to broadcast a global multi-sport event in India.

    Eurosport India will be the exclusive pay-TV partner in the SAARC countries. The rights include a showcase of Live sports, delayed telecast, and highlights across key events in 22 sporting disciplines.

    With a focus on local heroes, Eurosport India’s coverage of the Paralympics will start on 27 August to coincide with the men’s and women’s archery events at Yumenoshima Park Archery Field. The Eurosport feed will also be Live on the discovery+ app for the fans to stay up to speed with all the action from Tokyo, the channel said in a statement on Wednesday.

    Speaking about the association, Discovery Inc SVP – affiliate sales and product distribution, Asia – India sales & distribution and Eurosport India head, Vijay Rajput said, “This is a milestone event in the short life of Eurosport India. Eurosport is the home of the Olympics in Europe and our association with the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games will be the first step towards a similar journey in India.”

    “The Paralympic Committee of India and Eurosport India have a common vision of helping our athletes gain visibility amongst passionate Indian sporting communities and this association is a testimony of that,” he added.

    “At the brink of a historic national sporting movement, our Indian para sportsmen are inspired and excited to win glory and pride for the country. Such honouring moments must and would be shared and celebrated. Indians masses across the globe should be able to bask in the triumphant performance of our Paralympic stars,” added the Paralympic Committee of India, secretary-general, Gursharan Singh.

    India will be fielding its largest ever contingent at Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games with 54 Paralympic athletes participating across nine sporting disciplines.

    New Delhi: Eurosport India has acquired the broadcasting rights of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship, the primary feeder series to Formula 1.

    The FIA Formula 2 Championship will take place over eight action-packed weekends with two sprint races on Saturday, followed by an hour-long feature race on Sunday. The 2021 season of FIA Formula 2 began in Bahrain in March, and it will end in December in Abu Dhabi, visiting iconic circuits like Silverstone, Monza, and Monaco.

    Indian driver Jehan Daruvala is competing in the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship for the Carlin team. He currently sits in fourth place in the driver standings after a strong start this season.

    Eurosport India amps up sports fans with docu-series blitz

    NEW DELHI: Eurosport and Eurosport HD have rolled out a new campaign of sports documentaries titled 10 weeks 20 documentaries with the aim to enthral audiences with gripping human stories of sports personalities. 

    The campaign, spread across 10 weeks, with two new episodes premiering every weekend, is a step towards Eurosport India establishing itself as the home of world-class sports titles in a wide variety of sporting genres like cricket, golf, tennis, football, and boxing.

    The documentary blitz kickstarted earlier this month with the screening of the Emmy nominated sports docu-series Being Serena that follows pivotal moments in the life of former world No. 1 tennis champion, Serena Williams. 

    Being Serena was followed by What Killed Maradona which takes a deeper look into the extraordinary life of Diego Maradona, piecing together the trail of clues that caused his lonely and premature death in the Argentinian capital. 

    The ongoing Matchday – Inside FC Barcelona, an eight episodic docu-series, that tracks the FC Barcelona squad during the 2018/19 season premiered last weekend.

    Four other documentaries will come to Eurosports in May. 

    Anthony Joshua: The Road to Klitschko follows the IBF World Heavyweight champion over the course of two years as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career.

    Strokes of Genius depicts the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, while The Tiger Tales Show uses video and animation to tell new and illuminating stories about Tiger’s incredible impact on golf.

    The Beckham Effect examines the ups and downs of David Beckham’s six-year tenure with the LA Galaxy and its impact on the sports landscape. 

    June is reserved for cricket with two very interesting documentaries releasing one after another. Capturing Cricket: Steve Waugh in India follows the former Australian captain’s journey as he travels across India and captures the country’s obsession with the sport. Bodyline: The Ultimate Test is the story of one of the most well-known but perhaps least understood moments of conflict and controversy in the history of sports: the infamous Bodyline Test cricket series of 1932 and 1933.

    Eurosport India acquires broadcast rights for Bihar Cricket League

    MUMBAI: Eurosport and Eurosport HD India have acquired the broadcast rights for Bihar Cricket League (BCL)- a T20 League organised by Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) and Elite Sports Management.

    The league is currently underway at the URJA Stadium in Patna and will go on till 26 March. Eurosport has expanded its current portfolio of live cricket offerings with the current edition of BCL. A subsidiary of Discovery, the channel had also broadcasted the ODI series between UAE and Ireland early this year.

    The league will witness five teams – Angika Avengers, Bhagalpur Bulls, Darbhanga Diamonds, Gaya Gladiators, and Patna Pilots competing with each other for the winner’s trophy. Former international cricketers including Sanath Jayasuriya, RP Singh, Danny Morrison, Venkatesh Prasad, and Tillakaratne Dilshan are associated as team mentors.

    The next match between Patna Pilots and Bhagalpur Bulls will be live on Eurosport and Eurosport HD on Monday from 6:00 PM IST onward.
