    Reality TV sibling might come to India

    NEW DELHI: UK-based Zone Vision, which has brought Reality TV to India in association with Zee Turner, is open to bringing a sibling of the action channel too.

    Some initial discussions were held, Zone Vision marketing manager Flecka Picardo admitted during a chat with indiantelevision.com when asked whether the company was contemplating introducing some other channels from the stable to India.

    The other TV channels controlled by Zone Vision include Romantica and Europa Europa.

    However, Picardo added that she would not be in a position to divulge any further information on other Zone Vision channels as nothing firm exists at the moment.

    Romantica is home to the world of world of passion, intrigue, glamour and high drama. The programming line-up is somewhat similar to what upmarket Hindi language mass entertainment channels dish out.

    On offer on Romantica are some of the best romantic dramas from around the world, including the US, Mexico, Italy, Argentina, Canada and Venezuela; music and entertainment from star performers; travelogues from exotic locations; and revolutionary interactive series. Romantica programmes are fully localised to cater to its vast audience that spreads across 20 territories in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

    The channel’s current reach is six million subscribers, with growth of 1 million homes recorded in the last six months.

    Europa Europa is the home of European cinema and with a diverse range of genres and styles, it showcases some of the finest talent in Europe.

    Europa Europa brings together the most significant filmmaking nations and presents the productions of its best directors and actors ranging from Truffaut, Von Trier, Almodovar, Loach, Polanski and Bertolucci, Hopkins,
    Belucci, Loren and Depardieu.

    Europa Europa’s 14-hour schedule extends to 20 hours on weekends. The channel is seen in 15 territories across Europe and the Americas by over eight million subscribers.

  • Reality TV to launch on German cable network platform

    NEW DELHI: Reality TV is launching in Germany on cable network platform ISH and on a documentary channel Planet this month. The channel will be distributed by Zone Vision, global producer and distributor of thematic channels.
    The channel has been picked up by ISH for its popular Active packages. The German documentary channel Planet is to launch daily blocks of programming from Reality TV, which will feature on all major platforms in the German speaking territories reaching over two million subscribers and mark the expansion of the Reality TV brand into the German market.
    Reality TV recently launched in the US and Asia Pacific. The channel is currently beamed into 15 million households across the country. The channel is distributed in India by Zee Turner, the distribution alliance between Zee Telefilms Ltd and Turner International. The channel claims a global reach of over 35 million subscribers in over 125 territories worldwide.
    “Reality-based programming with in-depth investigations is an important part of a diverse documentary channel like Planet. This is why we selected the programming from Reality TV and chose to broadcast it with the Reality TV logo to emphasize to our viewers that this is a new and different type of documentary content,” says managing director James W Wells. 
    Highlights from the branded blocks include What Went Wrong? a series that dissects the mysteries surrounding some of the world’s most disastrous events, from air crashes to unexpected mishaps and engineering miscalculation. Another show, Anatomy of a Crime which reveals the truth behind some of the worst atrocities ever committed and Disaster Detectives, a series that presents some of the world’s most devastating avalanches, floods, forest fires, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes as seen through the eyes of those who have experienced and survived it all.
    Zone Vision currently owns and operates Reality TV, Romantica and Europa Europa, managing and representing services available to 84.5 million homes in over 125 countries. In addition to its operating group in London and international headquarters in Amsterdam, Zone Vision also has 16 regional offices.

  • Reality TV readies for 1 February launch

    NEW DELHI: AXN looks like finally having some serious competition on its hands. Reality TV makes it formal debut on 1 February, after some weeks of test runs, as part of a strategic alliance with the Zee Turner distribution joint venture. .
    According to Chris Sharp, managing director of Zone Vision, the London based international thematic channel creators, “Reality TV is the real reality television, while other reality shows aired on other channels (like AXN) are not real reality programmes.”
    Reality TV, a 24-hour channel, combines hard-hitting, real-life drama and close-up looks at the work of emergency services with in-depth analysis of natural and man-made disasters.
    This channel is targeted at the age group between 16-34 years and features material sourced from factual producers around the world. Reality TV captures the human drama when everyday life takes a turn for the unexpected, showing events as they actually happened.
    “Unpredictable, unbelievable and unrehearsed. These are some of the words associated with the channel,” Sharp said.
    Reality TV will be aired in India, South Asia and parts of West Asia.
    Brought to India by Zone Vision, the London based international thematic channel creators, Reality TV will be distributed in India by Zee Turner, the distribution alliance between Zee Telefilms Ltd and Turner International. 
    Zone Vision, is making its first foray into the Indian market by launching Reality TV.


    Zee Turner Ltd.’s chief executive Sunil Khanna said: “There are plans to localise the channel too in the long term, though immediately we are not revising the subscription rate for the Zee Turner package.”
    Added Sharp: “Initially we would look at introducing (an) Indian language as this feed of Reality TV is dedicated to India specifically.”
    The target for Zee Turner is to enable the encrypted Reality TV channel reach 10 million cable homes in the first two weeks after a formal launch, according to Khanna who, however, ducked a question on whether this target was on the higher side.    
    There are plans to localise Reality TV in the long term, though immediately there will be no revision in the subscription rate for the Zee Turner package
    Pointing out that the aim is to “drive the Zee Turner package through Reality TV,” Sharp also said that they are looking at having a marketing and ad sales outfit for the channel.
    Reality programming is a proven success around the world and has helped boost audiences across terrestrial and non-terrestrial channels, Sharp said making a presentation during a press conference here.
    The schedule for February 2003 will include the World’s Greatest Child Rescues, Busted on the Job, When Chefs Attack, Cheaters, Cheating Spouses, Outrageous Vacation Videos, High Speed Pursuits and When Good times Go Bad among many others.
    The launch of Reality TV into India will increase the channel’s reach by 10 million subscribers by the end of the first quarter making a current total of 27 million subscribers across five continents. Reality TV reaches all corners of the globe providing thrills, spills and unbeatable round-the-clock entertainment value 365 days of the year. Localisation of content has ensured that today the channel reaches 17 million homes in 15 languages across 100 territories within just 4 years of launch, Sharp said.
    Zee Turner manages distribution and trade marketing of a bouquet of channels of the Zee Telefilms Ltd and Turner International and third party channels in India and South Asia.
