    Eros International and A R Rahman’s YM Movies to produce a Hindi film

    MUMBAI: Eros International, a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry has announced its plans to produce a Hindi feature film with Oscar winner A R Rahman’s YM Movies. With this venture, the multi-talented Indian composer, singer-songwriter and music producer dons the hat of a film producer too. For the first time, AR Rahman has conceived the movie and written the basic story with help of international and local talent. It’s a young sensual movie based on love, art and self-discovery.

    Speaking on the announcement, A R Rahman said, “It’s a 16 year relationship with Eros and this time it’s extending the role a bit more. It’s about exploring the other side of a creative partnership. YM Movies is born out of sheer aspiration to create movies which could bring a lot of joy, fulfilling the artistic and cinematic demands.”

    Prime Focus Tech pockets cloud computing orders from broadcasters & studios

    MUMBAI: Media and entertainment companies have been sailing on the cloud of cloud computing. And one of the companies that is bearing the fruits of this is Prime Focus Technologies (PFT), the technology arm of media and entertainment services leader Prime Focus.

    PFT today announced that it has secured orders worth Rs 2 billion in the previous quarter from existing and new clients in India, and the US which are to be executed over the next three to five years.

    The company was unwilling to name the clients on account of NDAs with them. All it said was that the new clients include the world‘s largest news aggregator, a prominent Indian studio and a new Indian television channel, each of which have signed multi-year deals for PFT‘s Hybrid Cloud Technology – Clear, a cloud-based Media ERP and technology infrastructure platform that helps manage the business processes of M&E companies.

    PFT works with major content owners like Star India, Eros International, Sony Music, Viacom 18, Multiscreen Media BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the IPL (Indian Premiere League), Hindustan Unilever, The Associated Press, A & E TV Network, Netflix, Schawk! and WPP.

    Says PFT founder, president & CEO Ramki Sankaranarayanan: “Increasingly M&E companies are adopting cloud technologies across the enterprise content operations. They are not only migrating to digital file-based workflows but starting to adopt a Media ERP solution to manage the business processes around content. Clear‘s proven credential of managing over 300,000 hours of content is helping the growth of our order book.”

    Meanwhile, parent company Prime Focus today announced that it has entered into an initial non-binding memorandum of understanding with US-based Medient Studios. Under this, Prime Focus and Medient shall execute a definitive agreement within 90 days for the provision of production and post-production equipment, work flow technology and skill transfer by the former for the latter‘s megastudio project.

    Medient chairman & CEO Manu Kumaran has ambitious plans to develop a 1500 acre site in Effingham, Georgia, in the US which will house movie studios, entertainment facilities and a campus at an initial investment of $90 million. He estimates that the Prime Focus contribution is worth in excess of $40 million.

    Mad Over Donuts partners with Bollywood movie ‘Go Goa Gone’

    BENGALURU: Singaporean donut brand Mad Over Donuts (MOD) announced its association with Illuminati Films and Eros International‘s Bollywood zombie comedy film ‘Go Goa Gone‘ (3G) scheduled to release on May 10.

    This is the first time MOD will be associating itself with a film. 3G features Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu and Vir Das among others and is directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.

    With this association, MOD intends to establish a strong connect with its target audience. MOD COO Tarak Bhattacharya said, “Both Mad Over Donuts and Go Goa Gone share the same target group and thus associating with this movie seemed like a perfect fit. It‘s our first film association and as a brand we are willing to explore this platform in future as well.”

    MOD has also introduced a donut named ‘Zombie Keel-er‘ created especially for this film. It has 46 stores across India and has expansion plans to more than double this count by the end of 2013. The company claims that it has almost half a million Indian fans on its facebook page.

    Bottomline Media (the agency that was the behind the association) CEO/Founder Tanaaz Bhatia said, “Creating the Zoombie Keel-er donut was a fun process. Go Goa Gone and Mad Over Donuts are all about innovation and creating new spaces in their own field. Marrying the two, just made it a perfect fit for us to come up with the association, which has never been attempted before.”

    Sony Music and Eros International tie up with Raanjhanna

    MUMBAI: Eros International Media Limited has once again collaborated with Sony Music, to present the music Raanjhanaa. It is a romantic story starring Sonam Kapoor and south Indian actor Dhanush (of Kolavari Di fame) that will highlight the essence of love and simplicity.

    Sony Music will distribute and promote the music of the movie across all physical and digital platforms. The Hindi and Tamil original sound track of Raanjhanaa will be distributed under the co-branding of Sony Music and Eros Music labels.

    Set in the streets of Delhi and Varanasi, Raanjhanaa‘s music is composed by Oscar Winner A R Rahman.

    Sony Music Entertainment India MD Sanujeet Bhujabal said, "We are delighted to be associated with Eros International for its second release of this year. The trailer of Raanjhana was released recently and has already accumulated a huge response. We are extremely confident that AR Rahman‘s music will connect hugely with the music fans at all levels."

    Goa Goa Gone‘s music is already out across all platforms while Raanjhanaa‘s music will be available in the coming weeks.

    MUMBAI: Prime Focus said it will showcase some of its newest Cloud technologies, made in India for the world, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2013.

    At the annual industry event, scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in April this year, Prime Focus Technologies (PFT), the technology arm of Prime Focus, will highlight how the organisation is bringing the best of its Clear Hybrid Cloud technology platform and Digital Content Services to address a new enterprise digitisation opportunity – multi-platform content production (TV, feature film and digital media).

    Created at the company’s R&D centre in Bangalore, PFT’s new solution aims to bring the production process on to a single digital platform, transforming the very manner in which producers interact with their content, partners and vendors.

    “As the technology evolves and businesses transition to the ‘new normal’, PFT continues to invest heavily in its R&D to provide solutions to its customers that put them ahead of the technology evolution curve,” says Prime Focus Technologies Founder, President and CEO Ramki Sankaranarayanan.

    MUMBAI: The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) will honour Eros International group executive chairman Kishore Lulla and Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter and Alesia Weston at its 5th Annual Industry Leadership Awards (ILA).

    Lulla has been instrumental in spearheading the growth of Eros International Group.

    “It is an honor for IFFLA to bestow its highest accolades to such distinguished executives of the entertainment community. They were selected for their vision, leadership, and unique contributions to the educational, business, and creative arenas not only related to Indian cinema, but the film community as a whole,” IFFLA Board member Noel De Souza said.

    “In addition we are thrilled that three of Hollywood’s most highly regarded talents join us for the 2012 Industry Seminar. We cannot wait for them to share their inspiring stories while enlightening and encouraging the fledgling filmmakers in our audience,” added De Souza.

    Since the 1980‘s Lulla has expanded the company’s presence in the UK, USA, Europe, Middle East, Australia, Fiji, and other international markets. He is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and also a board member of the University of California, Los Angeles Film School (UCLA).

    MUMBAI: Earlier this week, it was reported that the Iranian band Barobax Corp sent a legal notice to Agent Vinod’s music director Pritam and distributor Eros International citing copyright infringement of one of their numbers.

    The band had claimed that the initial portion of the film‘s song Pungi was lifted without changes from the band‘s popular number Soosan Khanoom composed way back in 2010 that was registered on 30 June under the Copyright Act in Canada.

    On Wednesday, they moved the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on Agent Vinod’s release, along with a restraining order from using the track in the film.

    However on Thursday, the case was heard and dismissed, with the film opening on Friday as planned. The cause for this dismissal of the case was that the band failed to appear in person and the similarity between the two tracks was marginal.

    MUMBAI: Bollywood actor John Abraham has forayed into movie production under the banner JA Entertainment and has got Eros International to co-produce and release it.

    The spoof on sperm donation is titled Vicky Donor and will release on 20 April.

    “I am excited about making a foray into producing films and glad to have Eros on board as co-producers. Also, with Eros‘ global marketing and distribution infrastructure, we hope to present this breakthrough commercial cinema to audiences worldwide,” Abraham observed.

    Vicky Donor has been directed by Shoojit Sircar and stars debutant Ayushmann Khurrana along with Annu Kapoor and Yami Gautam among others.

    The film is about a light hearted take at the taboo attached with infertility and artificial insemination or sperm donation.

    Eros International Media Ltd managing director Sunil Lulla said, “With Vicky Donor, one can expect the unusual and out of the box cinema.
