    Interactive channel launched in Hong Kong

    MUMBAI: The Interactive Channel (TIC) has started beaming in Hong Kong on the Hong Kong Cable TV. The channel, which is initially available from 8 pm to 6 pm, will be converted as a 24-hour network on 1 December.

    According to TIC founder chairman Rober Chua, TIC utilises the convergence of broadcast TV, radio, internet and mobile networking technologies to create infotainment-based programming.

    For the interactive platform, TIC also makes use of mobile phones and the internet. The channel’s website www.tictv.com also plays a crucial role in enhancing the interactivity feature by hosting various games.

    According to Hong Kong Cable TV executive director Eric Lo, “TIC fits well with the profile of our viewers who are technology savvy, and I am confident that the channel will be welcomed by many.”

    The channel’s programming line up include iTalk Live, a daily show that will incorporate SMS messaging; Election Live, to cover the local elections; and Game Guru, among others.

  • Discovery expands presence in Hong Kong with carriage deal

    HONG KONG: Discovery Networks Asia has expanded its penetration in the Asia Pacific region. The broadcaster has signed a five-channel carriage deal with Hong Kong Cable Television.
    In addition to Discovery Channel which has been on the HK platform for five years there are Animal Planet and Discovery Travel & Adventure. They are being carried in the basic tier.
    Cable Television’s premium tier will include three other DNA channels: Discovery Health, Discovery Science and Discovery Home & Leisure. The channels will debut later this year.
    Cable TV’s executive director, Eric Lo was quoted in a report saying, “Discovery Channel has won wide acclaim from Hong Kong viewers and is one of our most watched channels. It is already a household name in Hong Kong. I have no doubt the addition of more channels will be welcomed by our viewers.”
