Ek Thi Daayan receives U/A certificate

MUMBAI: Vishal Bhardwaj and Ekta Kapoor‘s Ek Thi Daayan, directed by Kannan Iyer, is the first thriller-horror to have received a U/A certificate from the Censors.

The U/A certificate establish the film‘s enhanced potential and appeal among the youngsters as much as among adults. The Emraan Hashmi-starrer Ek Thi Daayan will release worldwide on 19 April.

Hashmi plays Bobo, a leading magician, suffering from constant hallucinations. His life is falling apart. When he is put through regression hypnosis, a terrifying childhood story surfaces in which a daayan (witch), who has destroyed his family, returns to haunt him.

Bhardwaj avers, "The film draws inspiration from folklore. Along with Emraan, Konkona, Kalki and Huma, two young kids play major roles in the film. With schools going in for a summer break, this film will surely turn out to be an enjoyable family outing."

Remarks Ekta, "While we have the added advantage of being children-friendly, the film also has all the commercial masala that the audience expects from an Emraan Hashmi film. Young couples who want to cuddle up during the spooks and scares have found their film to do so!" she winks.

MUMBAI: The oldest movie hall in South Mumbai Liberty Cinema that had closed down for a few months is all set to reopen with Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj‘s Emraan Hashmi-starrer Ek Thi Dayaan on 19 April.

Some films have run at Liberty for a considerable period of time. Mehboob Khan‘s Mother India ran for a whole year starting October 1957 at the same hall. Almost three decades later Rajshri‘s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun] ran for 105 weeks in regular shows and 16 weeks in the matinee shows from 1994 onwards till it completed its 100th week run in August 1996.

Balaji has decided to support the single screen with its other heavy-duty forthcoming releases like Shootout At Wadala, Lootera and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai…Again. Said Liberty Cinema owner Vazir Hussain, "We have four films lined up. We will see how it goes."

The cinema hall had closed down for a couple of months in the wake of increasing competition from neighbouring cinemas outlets like Sterling, Eros, New Excelsior and Regal.
