  • Spykar ditches dosh, dishes out denim for ‘Eidi that always stays with you’

Spykar ditches dosh, dishes out denim for ‘Eidi that always stays with you’

MUMBAI: Spykar, is urging a denim revolution this Eid. It’s campaign, “Eidi that always stays with you,” flips the bird to fleeting cash gifts, pushing for presents that pack a punch and last a lifetime.

“Eid’s about love, innit? Why not gift something that doesn’t just disappear down the pub?” muses a Spykar spokesperson, clearly fed up with the usual monetary malarkey.

To spearhead this sartorial shake-up, they’ve roped in digital darling Faisal Shaikh, aka Faisu. He’s ditching the dosh and embracing denim, showcasing how a decent pair of jeans outlasts any crumpled note. Faisu’s Instagram is now a denim-drenched delight, showcasing the campaign’s message.

“We’re talking gifts with guts,” says Spykar CEO Sanjay Vakharia. “Like a good pair of jeans, relationships get better with age. Our denim’s built to last, just like your best mate’s banter.”

Spykar’s campaign is a cheeky nudge to rethink Eid gifting. Forget the quick quid; invest in something that ages like fine wine, or at least a decent pair of selvedge. This Eid, Spykar is saying: “Give ’em denim, not dross.”

Salman Khan’s Radhe takes viewers by storm across all platforms

KOLKATA: Actor Salman Khan’s much awaited film Radhe has opened to a thunderous response from the audience. The movie proved to be yet another Eid blockbuster garnering over 4.2 million views across various platforms.

In India, the film was released on Zee5 with Zee’s pay-per-view service ZeePlex, along with leading DTH operators. It was also released theatrically in international markets on 13 May.

Right from fans cheering for the film in theatres overseas, to massive bookings on streaming platforms, the fans of the superstar watched the film as soon as it released making it the most-watched movie on the opening day itself.

With theatre capacities running at 50 per cent in UAE, the film has collected $379,000 on its opening day, which is not only higher than Salman Khan’s last film Dabbang 3 (2019) but also a higher opening day collection than Godzilla vs. Kong. • Boss collects only Rs 38.2 crore

Boss collects only Rs 38.2 crore

MUMBAI: The mid week release to cash in on a festival has backfired on Boss (second film to suffer so in recent times after Besharam). Released on Eid day (Wednesday), it opened to lukewarm response earlier to consolidate by evening shows at single screens. However, the first day figures barely managed to touch Rs 12 crore. The Basi Eid was expected to help maintain steady collections but that did not happen as the collections dropped by nearly Rs 5 crore. The film went on to collect Rs 25 crore for the first three days and close its five day weekend at Rs 38.2 crore.

Shahid found the appreciation but has not yet backed it up with the collections. This Mumbai-centric film faced opposition from the 15th Mumbai Film Festival as film buffs who would love such a film were drawn to the film fest. The film collected about Rs 2 crore in its first weekend.

War Chhod Na Yaar has managed to see the week through. The film has collected Rs 6.25 crore for its first week.

Besharam drops to less than 10 per cent of its first week figures. The film has collected Rs 4.35 crore in its second week (16 days) to take its two week total to Rs 54.65 crore.

The Lunch Box has collected Rs 85 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week tally to Rs 20.25 crore. It was revealed during the 15th Mumbai Film Festival that the Irrfan Khan starrer will also be releasing in France on 11 December this year.

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has added Rs 55 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week total to Rs 35.95 crore.

Grand Masti has collected Rs 60 lakh in its fifth week, just about ending its eventful run at the box office and taking its total to Rs 91.8 crore.

  • SRK starrer Chennai Express storms ahead with Rs 92 crore

SRK starrer Chennai Express storms ahead with Rs 92 crore

MUMBAI: Rohit Shetty’s big budget action-comedy Chennai Express has made the most of the Eid weekend solo release. The Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer’s high decibel promotion has also paid rewards as the film has swept the box office to set a new weekend collection record. Also, calling it a clean family entertainer has helped, as the film ended its weekend (paid previews on 8 August included) with Rs 92 crore, an outstanding fete on all counts.

Having exhausted a lot of its ‘Must Watch’ audience, the film has slowed down at multiplexes but holding on well at single screens. The film left no chance of using various platforms for promotions, SRK featured on popular television fiction and non-fiction shows over the past one month including Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, Comedy Nights With Kapil to name a few.

Of the smaller releases of the last week, BA Pass starring Shilpa Shukla (Chak De India! fame) seems to have impressed the critics as a noir film! The film managed to put together Rs 5.35 crore for its first week.

Rabba Main Kya Karoon starring Akash Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal and Riya Sen has bordered on the one crore rupees mark in its first week.

Bajatey Raho coined as a revenge comedy and having some well known names to boast off like Tusshar Kapoor, Dolly Ahluwalia, Ranvir Shorey, Ravi Kishan, Vinay Pathak, Vishakha Singh struggled to put together another Rs 55 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 7.05 crore.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya which marked the debut of Girish Kumar alongside Shruti Hassan collected Rs 1.2 crore in its third week to take its three week total to Rs 25.85 crore.

D-Day has done reasonably well to collect Rs 1.5 crore in its third week to take its three week total to Rs 19.5 crore.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which saw Farhan Akhtar depict the role of ‘the flying sikh’ Milhka Singh has collected Rs 8.5 crore in its fourth week to take its four week total to Rs 102.75 crore.
