    Nalin Mehta appointed chief AI officer at Network18

    MUMBAI: Network18 has appointed Nalin Mehta as its chief AI officer (editorial operations), adding another milestone to his expansive career across journalism, academia, and public policy. Mehta, who also serves as managing editor at moneycontrol, will now lead the integration of artificial intelligence in editorial workflows across the group.

    With over two decades in Indian media, Mehta has held senior editorial positions at some of the country’s top news organisations. He was executive editor of The Times of India’s digital operations and managing editor at India Today TV. He has also served as group consulting editor at Network18.

    Outside the newsroom, Mehta has held academic roles including dean and professor at the School of Modern Media, UPES, and associate professor at Shiv Nadar University. He is currently a non-resident senior fellow at the Institute of south Asian studies (National University of Singapore), and a member of the economic advisory council to the prime minister.

    His work has spanned media strategy, digital innovation, public policy, and research—making this move into AI-driven editorial systems a logical progression. As AI reshapes newsrooms globally, Mehta’s role positions him at the intersection of journalism and technology in one of India’s largest media networks.

    Chitra Tripathi and Gaurav Verma join India Today Group for second stint

    Mumbai: It’s all cheer for Chitra Tripathi and Gaurav Verma as they return to the India Today Group. Verma is chief operating officer of The Lallan Top and Tripathi has assumed the role of editor of special projects at Aaj Tak.

    This is Verma’s second stint with the TV Today Network – previously, he quit the group in August 2020. In his new role, he will report to TV Today Network chief operating officer Vivek Gaur. He will also be responsible for overseeing revenue for digital streaming of Live TV and will be reporting to Salil Kumar on the same.

    Verma recently quit as the revenue head of Times Network’s Hindi news channel, Times Now Navbharat. In his career, he has also worked with Zee, Network 18 and Business Standard. A commerce graduate from Delhi University, he holds a postgraduate diploma from the National Institute of Sales, and has also done an Executive Excellence programme from ISB.

    In her new role, Tripathi will continue to report to Aaj Tak and India Today managing editor Supriya Prasad. She joined ABP News last month and had a stint of less than a month before returning to Aaj Tak.

    Both Tripathi and Verma will be based in Noida.

    Mumbai: Tamil Nadu’s leading news broadcaster, News18 TN, will air the first-ever interview of Tamil Nadu’s chief minister MK Stalin, on Tuesday.

    The CM’s exclusive one-on-one conversation with News18 Tamil Nadu editor Karthigaichelvan S will go on air at 8 a.m.

    The interview, which promises to be explosive in nature, will touch upon a range of contemporary issues concerning the state, such as the opposition alliance, the BJP, and the odds of him being a king or kingmaker in the 2024 general elections. This is MK Stalin’s first-ever interview with a media house since becoming Tamil Nadu chief minister on 7 May 2021.

    The much-anticipated interview will summarise a range of political concerns, including his estimation of DMK’s performance in the upcoming polls and his increasing interest in an alliance with Congress. The chief minister may also share his thoughts on possibilities after the general election of 2024.

    Mumbai: Sant Prasad Rai has stepped down as managing editor of TV9 Bharatvarsh. He was associated with the channel for over three years. To synergize broadcast & digital editorial operations, TV9 Bharatvarsh to be helmed by Deep Upadhyay who is currently the editor of convergence & strategy.

    Upadhyay will be assisted by Rahul Chaudhary in day-to-day news operations at TV9 Bharatvarsh.

    Rai has three decades of experience in electronic media. Earlier, he was associated with India TV as senior executive editor for a year. He has held many reputed positions at Zee Media, News 24, Sahara Samay and ETV UP. Rai has been relieved from his day-to-day newsroom responsibilities with immediate effect at TV9 Bharatvarsh.

    Upadhyay has joined the news network from News 24. He has worked with various media houses such as India TV, Zee News and Dainik Bhaskar.

    Mumbai: Sudhir Chaudhary will be joining Aaj Tak as a Consulting Editor. He has recently resigned as the chief executive officer of Zee Media where he was associated for over 10 years with the news broadcaster.

    India Today Group’s vice-chairperson Kalli Purie in a letter welcomed him and said, “Sudhir and Aaj Tak are collaborating to bring to our 100 million viewers an exciting new show anchored by him. This show will be under the supervision of news director Supriya Prasad.”

    Sudhir was last seen on the award-winning, high-engagement, TRP record-setting show DNA. He has one of the largest followings on social media and a galaxy of awards from every reputable organization.

    Sudhir resigned from Zee Media to start his venture. Commenting on his new innings, Purie added, “I am glad he has taken a call that will not disappoint his fans who are paramount for him. It’s excellent that his first venture is in alliance with us, and I hope that we will be able to work together on other projects. I also wish him well for his non-news initiatives.”

    Sandeep Unnithan appointed as editor of News9 Plus

    Mumbai: TV9 Network has announced the appointment of former India Today managing editor Sandeep Unnithan as the editor of News9 Plus, the recently announced video magazine OTT service by the network. 

    In this role, Unnithan will be responsible for all day-to-day news and editorial reportage at News9 Plus, for rich perspectives, narratives, and debates in a video on demand format, said the media company in a statement. “He will report to TV9 Network CEO Barun Das and TV9 Network group editor B V Rao,” it added. 

    Unnithanr bings with him a wealth of editorial experience with in-depth reporting on defence and strategic affairs. He is the author of “Black Tornado: The Three Sieges of Mumbai 26/11” and the co-author of “Operation X” – a non-fiction book on India’s covert Naval operations during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

    “With Sandeep on board, his rich experience in writing and editing long form stories will play out on the richness of our editorial content,” said Barun Das CEO TV9 Network. “Sandeep will add gravitas, diversity and immersive storytelling that the English news audience deserves.     TV9 Network has made another key hire for News9 Plus in Sandhya Ravishankar, award winning journalist from the south, who specializes in investigation. She won the Ramnath Goenka award in 2018 for her seven year-long reportage on beach sand mining.

    Aditya, who has earlier worked with CNN News 18, Times Now and Republic TV, will man the intersection of internal security, terrorism and diplomacy at News9 Plus. 

    News9 Plus will launch at the end of March 2022 on Web, Android and iOS marketplaces. Integrations on connected TVs and smart devices will follow soon thereafter, said the statement.

    TV9 Network appoints Anshuman Tiwari as editor, Money9

    Mumbai: TV9 Network has strengthened the leadership of TV9 Digital and appointed Anshuman Tiwari as editor of Money9. Veteran journalist Rakesh Khar will assume a larger role as business and economy editor of the network.

    Tiwari is a recipient of the Ramnath Goenka Award, the WAN-INFRA international award for investigative journalism, and, most recently, the ENBA award for the best economic show on digital platforms. He is a Chevening fellow and has had brief stints with global media brands like Financial Times, London, Dayton News Chronicle, Ohio, USA.

    He is known for his innovative and simple style of explaining complex issues of personal finance, public finance economy, and capital market.

    “While language audiences have always been under-served in terms of personal finance, that need gap has only widened with rapid financialisation and digitisation of semi-urban and rural India,” said TV9 Network chief executive officer Barun Das. “Money9 will serve the finest personal finance content in simple, easy-to-consume formats, accessible in multiple languages. I am confident we will deliver on this promise with Anshuman leading the Money9 editorial team.”

    Money9 is a multilingual personal finance platform. The platform is currently available in Hindi and English and will soon be available in five other languages – Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, and Bengali.

    Nikunj Garg appointed as editor of Mirror Now

    Mumbai: Times Network on Thursday announced the appointment of Nikunj Garg as editor of Mirror Now. He will report to Times Network managing director and chief executive officer MK Anand.  

    Garg will lead the editorial mandate for Mirror Now and closely work with the channel’s business and leadership teams to drive the channel’s growth agenda, besides continuing his role as overall head of input and news-gathering at Times Network, said the statement.

    With a broadcast journalism career spanning two decades, “Nikunj brings sharp insights, political intelligence, judgement, and accuracy in his reportage,” it added.

    “Nikunj has been one of our key assets and has significantly contributed to Times Now’s leadership through his action-oriented news reportage,” said MK Anand. “I am confident that Nikunj’s in-depth knowledge, expertise, and experience will help the channel’s growth plans in serving its mission, ‘You First’.”

    Garg has been associated with Times Network for over a decade, covering national political and international high-profile stories for Times Now. He is known for investigating and breaking powerful stories including Bofors’s alleged middleman, Ottavio Quatorocchi’s arrest in Argentina, arrest of an Indian diplomat in Pakistan for spying charges in 2010, revealing the identity of lone surviving terrorist of Mumbai 26/11 as Ajmal Kasab and confirming his arrest, IPL match-fixing scandal in 2013, breaking important government decisions on Covid-19 pandemic and government’s action on former CBI director Alok Verma amongst others.
