  • Paramount set to revive Beverly Hills Cop series

Paramount set to revive Beverly Hills Cop series

MUMBAI: The fourth film in the series is under discussion to be produced, after looking at the success of the TV series pilot episode last year.

The first film was released in 1984 and the third in 1994 after which it stopped. The first three installments together grossed about $750 million.

Eddie Murphy will still be playing the role of Axel Foley, the Detroid-based tough cop. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec who have had successful stints in movies such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are also part of the ensemble.

The decision came after a tough bidding for the series on TV ensued, before going to CBS. The pilot was produced by Sony Pictures TV with Paramount as rights holder. However, the series was never aired but it has created enough buzz to be made into a fourth installment in the franchise.

Eddie Murphy in Forbes list of overpaid actors

MUMBAI: Featuring in the Forbes list is something everyone looks out for, but this one may be the exception.
Eddie Murphy has topped Forbes’ list of overpaid actors, with the publication estimating for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films (including last year’s disappointing Tower Heist), studios took in an estimated $2.30 at the box office.
Forbes created the list by culling actor earnings from its Celebrity 100 list and taking estimated box office grosses and budgets from Box Office Mojo. It used the actors’ past three wide releases from the past three years.
Katherine Heigl, who after starring in hits such as Knocked-Up and 27 Dresses was able to command a higher paycheck, followed Murphy by taking the No. 2 spot. Heigl‘s recent films, such as this year‘s One For The Money, bringing in a $37 million haul against a $40 million budget, failed to deliver at the box office. For every dollar she was paid, Heigl‘s films earned an average of $3.40 at the box office, the publication estimated.

  • Brett Ratner steps down as producer of Oscars

Brett Ratner steps down as producer of Oscars

MUMBAI: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has accepted Brett Ratner‘s decision to step down as producer of the Oscar ceremony.

Said an emotional Ratner in a letter to his colleagues, “I called Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast. Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.”

It is likely that Ratner would be replaced by Eddie Murphy who has been mooted to host the ceremony.

However, there is no word on who will take over to producing the awards ceremony that is just three and a half months away.
