  • Sun TV reports improved Q1-18 numbers, declares 50% interim dividend

    BENGALURU: Sun TV Network Limited (Sun TV) reported improved numbers across all important parameters for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 (Q1-18, current quarter) as compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year (y-o-y, Q1-17). Sun TV reported 5.2 per cent higher consolidated total income in the current quarter at Rs 8,233.8 million as compared to Rs 7,823.8 million in q1-17. Operating revenue increased 3.4 per cent to Rs 7,863.2 million in Q1`-18 from Rs 7,608.3 million in Q1-17. The board of directors of Sun TV has declared an interim dividend of Rs 2.50 per equity share of face value of Rs 5 each (50 per cent).

    The company says in its earnings release that subscription revenue at Rs 2,705 million was up 15.3 per cent in Q1-18 as against Rs 2,346.8 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    The company’s profit after tax or PAT in Q1-18 improved 8 per cent to Rs 2,516.4 million (32 per cent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 2,330.6 million (29.8 per cent of Operating Revenue) in Q1-17.

    Sun TV EBIDTA in the current quarter was Rs 4,483.6 million (57 percent of Operating Revenue), 2.7 percent higher as compared to Rs 4,369.9 million (57.4 percent of Operating revenue) in Q1-17.

    Total Expenditure (TE) in the current quarter increased 3.8 per cent to Rs 4,415 million (56.1 per cent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 4,253 million (54.4 per cent of Operating Revenue) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    Operating expense in Q1-18 increased 37.6 per cent to Rs 683.1 million (8.7 per cent of Operating Revenue) from Rs 496.6 million (6.3 per cent of Operating Revenue) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    Employee Benefits Expense in Q1-18 increased 13.5 per cent to Rs 684.2 million (8.7 per cent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 603 million (7.7 per cent of Operating revenue) in Q1-17.

    Other expenses (OE) in the Q1-18 decreased 10.3 per cent to Rs 1,157.5 million (14.7 percent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 1,290 million (16.5 per cent of Operating Revenue) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    IPL Franchisee

    Sun TV has paid franchisee fees for its IPL team Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) of Rs 85.48 million in Q1-18 same as in the first quarter of FY-17. The company says that its IPL Franchisee had revenue of Rs 1,431 million in Q1-18, down 0.7 per cent as compared to Rs 1,440.4 million in Q1-17. IPL Franchisee costs in Q1-18 were down 5.9 per cent to Rs 1,655 million as compared to Rs 1,758.4 million in Q1-17.

  • Prime Focus reports flat results for first quarter

    BENGALURU: After the sale of certain investments and restructuring and integration costs in the previous fiscal (FY-17), including in the quarter ended 30 June 2016 (Q1-17), Prime Focus Limited (PFL) had reported healthy numbers for FY-17. The company has now reported almost flat revenue and EBIDTA numbers for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 (Q1-18, current quarter) as compared to Q1-17. Revenue Income from operations was 2.41 percent lower in the current quarter at Rs 5,135.22 million as compared to Rs 5,262.13 million in Q1-17. Total Income in Q1-18 was 0.82 percent lower year-over-year (y-o-y) at Rs 5,241.89 million as compared to Rs 5,285.09 million in Q1-17.

    EBIDTA including other income in the current quarter was flat (down 0.01 percent) at Rs 1,033.16 million (19.71 percent of Total Income) as compared to Rs 1,033.30 million (19.55 percent of Total Income) in Q1-17. The company says that adjusted EBIDTA was up 9 percent at Rs. 1,118mn (Q1-17: Rs. 1,023 million), with margin at 21.4 percent (Q1-17: 19.4 percent), with significant work being delivered on projects from India. The company reported foreign exchange gain for the period at Rs. 22 million.

    Total Expenditure in Q1-18 declined fractionally by 0.11 percent to Rs 5,239.58 million from Rs 5,245.19 million in Q1-17. Employee benefits expense in Q1-18 reduced 6.18 percent to Rs 2,966.46 million from Rs 3,161.77 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Technician fees in Q1-18 reduced 1.30 percent to Rs 90.51 million from Rs 91.70 million in Q1-17. Technical Services cost in the current quarter fell by 18.86 percent to Rs 134.35 million from Rs 165.59 million in Q1-17. Finance cost in Q1-18 increased 24.08 percent to Rs 376.38 million from Rs 303.32 million in Q1-17. PFL says that Finance costs in the current quarter includes non-operating charges of Rs. 85 millon on account of amortizations of debt like items Other Expenditure in the current quarter increased 9.41 percent to Rs 911.06 million as compared to Rs 832.73 million in corresponding quarter of fiscal 2017.

    In its investor presentation, PFL says that its creative services revenue in Q1-18 was Rs 4,042 million, while in Q1-17 it was Rs 4,052 million. Adjusted EBIDTA for creative services increased in Q1-18 to Rs 804 million (19.9 percent margin) from Rs 682 million (16.8 percent margin) in Q1-17. The company says that EBITDA margin increased as India integration proceeded at a steady pace; significant work continued to be delivered on projects from India, and steps were being taken to upsize and upskill the Indian workforce. PFL launched PFAMES (Prime Focus Academy of Media & Entertainment Studies) for training entry level personnel in India. It claims that it has delivered movies like Transformers: The Last Knight, Wonder Woman, The Mummy, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword among others. PFL says that it has an order book at in excess of $250 million with projects like M:I 6 – Mission Impossible, Godzilla Sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, American Assassin, Justice League, Geostorm, Avengers, Alpha, Blade Runner 2049, Thor Ragnarok and other major unannounced projects.

    PFL’s Tech/Tech Enabled services revenue in Q1-18 was slightly lower at Rs 822 million as compared to Rs 841 million in the corresponding year ago quarter. EBIDTA for Tech/Tech Enabled services increased to Rs 223 million (27.1 percent margin) from Rs 220 million (26.1 percent margin). Its order book for Tech/Tech Enabled services was at $200 million to be executed over next 3 to 5 years.

  • GTPL Hathway declares maiden dividend on higher numbers for FY-17

    BENGALURU: Indian multi-system operator GTPL Hathway declared a maiden dividend of ten percent for the year ended 31 March 2017 (FY-17, current year) per equity share of face value of Rs 10. The company was listed on the bourses on 4 July 2017 after the conclusion of a Rs 4,850 initial public offering (IPO) that was oversubscribed by 1.53 times in the third week of June 2017.

    GTPL reported 26.5 percent growth in Total Income to Rs 9,417.40 million in FY-17 from Rs 7,442.84 million in FY-16. Net Profit after tax (PAT) increased by more than seven times to Rs 262.42 million in the current fiscal from Rs 36.93 million in the previous year. Total comprehensive income also increased almost seven-fold to Rs 259.79 million from Rs 38.58 million. EBIDTA including other income in FY-17 increased 50.7 percent to Rs 2,077.33 million from Rs 1,595.93 million in the previous fiscal. Earnings per share increased by about 5.5 times in fiscal 2017 to Rs 4.10 from Rs 0.75 in the previous year.

    The company in its investor presentation says that cable TV subscription revenue grew 33 percent to Rs 4,494 million in FY-17 as compared to the Rs 3378 million during the previous fiscal. Cable TV Average Revenue per User (ARPU, net of taxes) in phases I, II, III and IV was Rs 100, 95, 54 and 41 respectively. Active set top boxes in FY-17 went up to 5.98 million, while the number of set top boxes seeded until 31 March 2017 was 6.90 million.

    Broadband revenue grew 77 percent to Rs 1,288 million from Rs 730 million during the same period. Broadband revenue’s contribution to overall revenue increased 4 percent, and the company says that broadband Broadband revenue grew 77 percent to Rs 1,288 million from Rs 730 million during the same period. Broadband ARPU increased 5.5 percent in FY-17 to Rs 480 from Rs 455 in the previous fiscal. GTPL Hathway claims to have seeded 1.48 million set top boxes in fiscal 2017.

    Let us look at the other numbers reported by GTPL Hathway

    Total expenses increased 20 percent to Rs 7,013 million in FY-17 from Rs 5,847 million in FY-16. Pay channel cost increased 17 percent to Rs 3,821 million from Rs 3,277 million in the previous fiscal. Bandwidth expense increased 78 percent in FY-17 to Rs 422 million from Rs 237 million in Fy-16.

    Employee cost increased 34 percent to Rs 1,084 million from Rs 808 million. Other operating expense reduced 23 percent to Rs 471 million from Rs 612 million. Administrative expense in FY-17 increased 33 percent to Rs 1,215 million from Rs 913 million.

  • Den improves Q1-18 numbers, betters ARPB, net loss down

    BENGALURU / NEW DELHI: Indian multi-system operator (MSO) Den Network Limited (DEN) reported 38 per cent year-over-year increase in cable revenue at Rs 1,540 million for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 (Q1-18, current quarter) as compared to Rs 1,110 million for the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal (Q1-17).

    Cable business reported post activation operating profit (EBIDTA) of Rs 850 million and pre-activation operating profit of Rs 490 million for the current quarter. Corresponding IND-AS EBIDTA numbers for the year ago quarter were Rs 500 million and Rs 150 million respectively. (Some numbers in this report have been rounded off).

    The company reported an overall higher y-o-y Average Revenue Per Box (ARPB) at Rs 74 in the current quarter as compared to Rs 52 in the corresponding year ago quarter. ARPB across all the four DAS phases was up, with DAS IV ARPB more than tripling to Rs 38 in the current quarter as compared to Rs 12 in Q1-17. DAS phase III ARPB increased to Rs 59 in Q1-18 as compared to Rs 36, DAS II ARPB increased from Rs 73 in Q-17 to Rs 91 in Q1-18, while DAS IV ARPB increased to Rs 110 in Q1-18 from Rs 101 in Q1-17

    Quarter-over-quarter APRB however was slightly lower. For the quarter ended 31 March 2017 (Q4-17) DEN had reported ARPB of Rs 76, with ARPB of Rs 117, Rs 85, Rs 62 and Rs 46 for DAS phases I, II, III and IV respectivley. Only DAS Phase II ARPB has increased in Q1-18 as compared to the immediate trailing quarter.

    Den Networks CEO SN Sharma said, “Den turned another quarter of impressive results by registering a stupendous performance on cable business. We remain focused on consumer needs and continue to take technology initiatives that will help our consumers make their lives convenient and connected. On the basis of IGAAP numbers, Den has broken even at the PNT level and the cable business has turned positive at the PAT level. We continue to add subscribers to our broadband business. The average data consumption for broadband business has already crossed 75 GB per month. We are very hopeful to continue this performance and are eagerly awaiting the the final verdict on the new TRAI tarriff order from the industry standpoint.”

    Overall, Den has reported y-o-y growth across all its revenue streams – whether considereed on the basis of cable business, broadband business, other income, or considered on the basis of subscription income, placement revenue and other income.

    The company says that it has deployed about 0.3 million boxes in the first quarter of fiscal 2018 in DAS phase III and IV areas and claims a digital subscriber base of about 10.7 million as on 30 June 2017.

    Broadband business revenue in the current quarter increased to Rs 211.9 million from Rs 177.9 million. Broadband business EBIDTA reduced to a loss of Rs 82.6 million versus a loss of Rs 142.6 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    Overall, Den Networks total income increased 15.75 per cent in Q1-18 to Rs 3,224.2 million from Rs 2,785.5 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Overall consolidated EBIDTA increased 31.2 per cent y-o-y in Q-16 to Rs 694 million as compared to Rs 52.9 million. The company narrowed consolidated net loss to Rs 101.1 million for the quarter led by a good performance from the cable segment.

    In the immediate trailing quarter, the company had said that it had focused largely on cash collections during the year which had brought down the net debt of the company to Rs. 1810 million as at March 31, 2017, thereby deleveraging its balance sheet. The net debt of the company has been further reduced to Rs 1340 million as on 30 June 2017.

    Den’s total expenses in Q1-18 increased 5.2 per cent y-o-y to Rs 3,305.1 million from Rs 3,142.3 million in Q1-17. Content Costs in Q1-18 increased 16.3 per cent y-o-y Rs 1,307.7 million from Rs 1,124.7 million. Placement fees costs in Q1-18 reduced 5.8 per cent y-o-y to Rs 101.3 million from Rs 107.5 million in Q1-17.

    Employee Benefits Expense in Q1-18 increased 25.5 per cent to Rs 317.4 million from Rs 253 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Other Expenses in the first quarter of fiscal 2018 increased 4.2 per cent to Rs 803.8 million from Rs 771.2 million in Q1-17.

  • Profit returns to Videocon d2h, court approves Dish TV merger scheme

    BENGALURU: After three consecutive profitable quarters in fiscal 2017 (year ended 31 March 2017, FY-17), Indian direct to home Saurabh Dhoot led major Videocon d2h Limited had reported a net loss of Rs 87 million for the last quarter of last fiscal (Q4-17). The company has returned back to the black for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 (Q1-18, current) with a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 12 million. After the Essel group’s DTH company Dish TV India Limited, Videocon d2h is one of the few television signal carriage companies in India that have started reported profits after taxes.

    The company has informed the bourses through a press release that it has received a nod from the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal ( for the scheme of arrangement among Videocon d2h (transferor company), Dish TV  India and their respective shareholders and creditors for the amalgamation with Dish TV. The appointed date for the amalgamation is 1 October 2017.

    Commenting on the company outlook, Videocon d2h executive chairman Saurabh Dhoot said, “In the past few weeks, the management has been working on an integration plan. The merged entity plans to adopt and implement the best practices of both companies. We believe this merger provides exciting opportunities through the customer service model, convergence of technologies, expanded breadth of content offerings including expansion of exclusive content, advertising income growth potential as well as synergies from a combined subscriber base of more than 28 million. The merged entity would be one of the largest pay TV platforms in the world in terms of subscriber base, according to the company estimates. I am very excited for this new journey of a business that commands strong business fundamentals and growth opportunities supported by our strong balance sheet and growing free cash flows.”

    Speaking on the business outlook, Videocon d2h CEO Anil Khera said “I am pleased to share that Goods and Service Tax (GST) came into effect starting July 1, 2017. GST will simplify the taxation regime and improve the ease of doing business. GST would also drive the unorganized segment, such as local cable operators, towards taxation.

    I am happy to share that the monsoons this year have been in line with long term average. This is likely to strengthen the macro-economic sentiment and imply good consumption from rural India. This is positive for the DTH industry and the upbeat rural sentiment due to the good monsoon could lead to a strong outlook for the festive quarter.”  

    The company reported a 1.2 percent increase in revenue from operations for the current quarter at Rs 7,726 million as compared to Rs 7,633 million in Q1-17. Subscription and activation revenue increased 1.7 percent in Q1-18 to Rs 7,091 million from Rs 6,970 million in Q1-17. Adjusted EBIDTA was slightly lower in Q1-18 at Rs 2,485 million as compared to Rs 2,519 million in the corresponding year ago quarter. However, adjusted EBIDTA less capex in the current quarter increased substantially to Rs 1,246 million from Rs 887 million in Q1-17. Content costs in Q1-18 have increased to 42 percent of revenue as compared to 38.7 percent in Q1-17.

    The company added 0.13 million net subscribers in Q1-18, far lower than the 0.43 million added in Q1-17 and lower than the 0.14 million subscribers added in the immediate trailing quarter. Quarter-over-quarter average revenue per user (ARPU) was Rs 198 in Q1-18 as compared to Rs 211 in Q1-17 and Rs 196 in Q4-17. Monthly subscriber churn in Q1-8 was higher at 1.27 percent as compared to 0.49 percent and 0.87 percent in Q1-17 and Q4-17 respectively. Subscriber acquisition costs in the form of hardware subsidies were INR 1,865 per subscriber during the first quarter of Fiscal 2018.

  • NDTV Convergence Q1 revenue jumps by 65%; parent company reports loss

    MUMBAI: NDTV’s digital business, NDTV Convergence, has enjoyed spectacular growth. Its revenue has jumped by 65 per cent to Rs. 380 million from Rs. 230 million in the same quarter last year. However, the parent company, NDTV, reported a consolidated loss of Rs 220.01 million for the quarter ended 30 June 2017 (Q1-18, current quarter) as compared to a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 76.1 million in the immediate trailing quarter (Q4-17) and a loss of Rs 445.5 million for the corresponding year ago quarter.

    NDTV Convergence now has 135 million unique visitors a month,which is more than 100 per cent increase over same period last year. Profit after Tax improved to Rs. 70 million compared to a loss of Rs. 30 million in the same quarter last year

    The company launched RailBeeps,a new offering which allows users the fastest possible experience in tracking updates on their railway bookings. The product currently tracks live data on over 12,000 Indian trains, and allows users to discover the best trains, organize all their routes and trips in one place.

    NDTV’s consolidated total income was almost the same year-on-year in Q1-18 at Rs 1,096 million as compared to Rs 1085.7 million, but declined sharply quarter-over-quarter from Rs 1,525.2 million.

    NDTV’s consolidated total expenditure in the current quarter at Rs 1,284.3 million was substantially lower y-o-y than the Rs 1,477.6 million in Q1-17 and also lower q-o-q than the Rs 1,393.2 million in Q4-17.

    The company’s television segment reported slightly lower y-o-y revenue in Q1-18 at Rs 1034.8 million as compared to Rs 1064.1 million in Q1-17 and lower q-o-q than the Rs 1,459.2 million in the immediate trailing quarter.

    The group EBITDA improved by Rs. 19 million compared to same quarter last year. EBITDA from Television & Digital segments achieved break-even in this quarter, says the company.

    The Group EBITDA loss was reduced from Rs. 210 million last year same quarter to Rs. 2 million in current quarter due to improved contributions from the digital business, cost reduction initiatives, improved productivity and reduction of losses in e-Commerce business.

  • GST ad deferrals hit Network 18 revenue in Q1-18

    BENGALURU: The GST implementation resulted in deferral of advertising spends in late Q1-18 (quarter ended 30 June 2017, current quarter) says Network 18 Limited.: While April-May witnessed robust revenue growth, June was substantially impacted by postponement in advertising spends. Nevertheless, The company believe that this is a transitory impact and GST shall drive the informal economy towards the formal channel in the long-run, which will push up advertising spends.

    Overall revenue including proportionate share of JVs’ increased 3 percent year-over-year (y-o-y) in Q1-18 to Rs 8,360 million from Rs 8,140 million in the corresponding year ago quarter Q1-17.Segment operating loss (EBIDTA) declined to Rs 510 millon in Q1-18 as compared to Rs 580 million in Q1-17. Revenue as IND-AS in Q1-18 was lower at Rs 3,210 million as compared to Rs 3,520 million in Q1-17. Operating loss as per IND-AS declined to Rs 460 million as compared to Rs 740 million in Q1-17.

    Network18 chairman Adil Zainulbhai said,“The digital space in India is witnessing an insatiable appetite for quality content, and Network18 continues to be at the forefront of providing the same in a frictionless manner across genres.     TV 18, the listed subsidiary of Network 18 reported 1.8 percent y-o-y decline in consolidated revenue in Q1-18 to Rs 2,170 million from Rs 2,210 million. TV18’s. TV18 owns and operates the largest network of channels – 49 in India spanning news and entertainment. It also caters to the Indian diaspora globally through 13 international channels. The company says that revenue growth from business news boosted TV18 standalone operating EBITDA. However, regional news witnessed softness in revenues and low profitability due to gestation losses. Entertainment revenues were aided by strong performance in niche genres and strength of the bouquet, it adds.

    TV18 posted consolidated revenues of Rs. 6,280 million (including proportionate share of JVs) in Q1FY18, a 4 percent y-o-y growth. Profitability improved mildly, driven by business news performance and helped by steady ramp-up of the multiple new initiatives undertaken in Q1-17.

    Tv18’s Total Expenditure in Q1-18 increased 2.9 percent y-o-y to Rs 2,520 million from Rs 2,450 million.TV 18’sEmployee Benefits Expense in the current quarter increased 23.4 percent y-o-y to Rs 950 million from Rs 770 million. TV 18’2 Finance costs declined 20 percent y-o-y in Q1-18 to Rs 40 million from Rs 50 million.

    TV18’s Other expenses in Q1-18 declined 13 percent to Rs 870 million from Rs 1,000 million.TV 18’s Distribution, advertising and business promotion expense reduced 3.8 percent y-o-y in Q1-18 to Rs 510 million from Rs 530 million.

  • Hathway reports improved performance

    BENGALURU: Indian multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable and Datacom Limited (Hathway) reported 18.5 per cent growth in consolidated Total Income  (Total Revenue) for the fiscal ended 31 March 2017 (FY-17, current year or fiscal) as compared to FY-16. The company’s consolidated operating profit increased 58.9 percent in fiscal 2017 as compared to fiscal 2017.

    Hathway reported consolidated Total Revenue of Rs 13,682.3 million for FY-17 as compared to Rs 11,550.4 million in the previous year. Consolidated Income from Operations increased 18.9 percent in the current year to Rs 13,371.2 million from Rs 11,241.8 million in the previous year.

    Consolidated simple EBIDTA including operating and other income increased to Rs 2,210.7 million (16.2 percent of Total Revenue) in the current year as compared to Rs 1,391.1 million (12 percent of Total Revenue) in fiscal 2016.

    Hathway’s consolidated net loss for FY-17 reduced to Rs 1,929.4 million from Rs 2,376.8 million in FY-16.

    Consolidated total expenses for the year increased 14.6 percent to Rs 15,636.6 million (114.3 percent of Total Revenue) as compared to Rs 13,646.3 million (121.4 percent of Total Revenue) in FY-16.

    Pay channel cost went up by 8.8 percent in FY-17 to Rs 4,716.9 million (34.5 percent of Total Revenue) from Rs 4,335.6 million (38.6 percent of Total Revenue) in the previous year. Employee Benefits Expense increased 8.1 percent to Rs 931.5 million (6.8 percent of Total Revenue) in fiscal 2017 from Rs 862 million (7.7 percent of Total Revenue) in the previous fiscal.

    Other operational expense in FY-17 increased 25.9 percent to Rs 2,564.7 million (18.7 percent of Total Revenue) from Rs 2,036.5 million (18.1 percent of Total Revenue) in the previous year. Other expenses increased 11.4 percent to Rs 3,258.5 million (23.8 percent of Total Revenue) in FY-17 from Rs 2,925.2 million (26 percent of Total Revenue) in the previous year.

    Finance costs increased 23.3 percent in the current year to Rs 1,107.5 million (8.1 percent of Total Revenue) from Rs 898.4 million (8 percent of Total Revenue) in the previous year.

    The company has stated in its financial results: Pursuant to the approval of the internal restructuring by the board of directors and the shareholders and after seeking in-principle prior approvals from the lenders, Hathway transferred its Cable Television business by way of slump sale to its wholly owned subsidiary Hathway Digital Private Limited (earlier known as Hathway Datacom Central Private Limited) (said Subsidiary) with effect from close of business hours as of March 31, 2017 for a total consideration of Rs. 302 crore (Rs 3,020 million). In view of the same, all assets and liabilities including borrowings attributed to the cable television business got vested in the said subsidiary.

  • Sun TV fiscal 2017 numbers grow

    BENGALURU: Sun TV Network Limited (Sun TV) reported improved numbers across all important parameters for the year ended 31 March 2017 (FY-17, current year, fiscal) as compared to the previous year (FY-16). Sun TV reported 8.1 percent higher consolidated total income in the current year at Rs 27,995.2 million as compared to Rs 25,899.7 million in FY-16. Operating revenue increased 7 percent to Rs 26,457.2 million in FY-17 from Rs 24,736.2 million in FY-16.

    On a standalone basis, the company says in its earnings release that subscription revenue at Rs 9,614.1 million was up 18 percent as against Rs 8,126.8 million in the previous year.

    The company’s profit after tax or PAT in FY-17 improved 11.7 percent to Rs 10,306.6 million (39 percent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 9,223.1 million (37.3 percent of Operating Revenue) in FY-16.

    Sun TV EBIDTA in the current year was Rs 17,698.4million (66.9 percent of Operating Revenue), 2.1 percent higher as compared to Rs 17,327.4 million (70 percent of Operating revenue) in FY-16.

    Total Expenditure (TE) in the current year increased 3 percent to Rs 12,773.6 million (48.3 percent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 12,397.9 million (50.1 percent of Operating Revenue) in the previous year.

    Operating expense in fiscal 2017 increased 19.3 percent to Rs 2,337.7 million (8.8 percent of Operating Revenue) from Rs 1,958.1 million in the previous year.

    Employee Benefits Expense in FY-17 increased 8.6 percent to Rs 2,562,7 million (9.7 percent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 2,359.9 million (9.5 percent of TIO) in FY-16.

    Other expenses (OE) in the FY-17 was 13.8.percent more at Rs 2,381.2 million (9 percent of Operating Revenue) as compared to Rs 2,092.4 million (8.5 percent of Operating Revenue) in the previous year.

    Sun TV has paid franchisee fees for its IPL team Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) of Rs 85.48 million in Q1-17 as compared to Rs 85.05 million in the first quarter of FY-16.

    BENGALURU: Prime Focus Limited (PFL) has reported robust financial performance, including consolidated profit after tax (PAT) for the period ended 31 March 2017 (quarter – Q4-17 and current quarter, current fiscal; year FY-17 and current year) as compared to the corresponding year ago periods – Q4-16 and FY-16 respectively. PFL reported consolidated PAT for FY-17 at Rs 1,397.39 million as compared to a consolidated loss of Rs 3,168.29 million in fiscal 2016. For the current quarter, PFL reported consolidated PAT of Rs 457.66 million as compared to a consolidated loss of Rs 2,648,86 million in FY-16.

    The company’s consolidated total revenue from operations (TR) in FY-17 increased 55.7 percent to Rs 21,536.25 million from Rs 13,828.15 million in the previous year. Consolidated total Income in the current year increased 52.5 percent to Rs 21,780.76 million from Rs 14,283.57 million in the previous year.

    In its investor presentation, PFL says that strong growth across businesses drove consolidated income growth of 14 percent primarily led by encouraging growth in Creative Services driven by additional capacity and deliveries from India. Creative and Tech/Tech Enabled services contributed 78 percent and 16 percent, respectively. The company’s three main businesses are Creative Services – it works on Hollywood Blockbusters; Technology Services; and Films and Media Services (FMS) where it works mainly with Indian films.

    PFL’s adjusted EBIDTA for FY-17 increased 50 percent to Rs 5,014 million from Rs 3,348 million in FY-16.

    Total Expenditure in FY-17 increased 29.2 percent to Rs 21,261.99 million from Rs 1,6454,04 million in FY-16. Employee benefits expense in FY-17 increased 41.5 percent to Rs 12,163.23 million from Rs 8,596.69 million in the previous year. Technicians fees in FY-17 increased 49.4 percent to Rs 368.92 million from Rs 246.95 million in FY-16. Technical Services cost in the current year increased by 28.5 percent to Rs 591.61 million from Rs 460.37 million in FY-16. Employee Stock Options or ESOP costs in fiscal 2017 increased by almost six-fold in FY-17 to Rs 256.69 million as compared to Rs 42.83 million in the previous year.

    Finance cost in FY-17 reduced 51.2 percent to Rs 1,278.73 million from Rs 2,620.21 million in FY-16.

    Other Expenditure in the current year increased 54.1 percent to Rs 3,841.70 million as compared to Rs 2,492.55 million in fiscal 2016.
