    GTPL Hathway reports higher subscription revenue, improved numbers for Q1-2021

    BENGALURU: GTPL Hathway Ltd (GTPL) reported 19.3 percent growth in revenue for the quarter ended 30 June 2020 (Q1-2021, quarter or period under review) and 8.9 percent growth in the operating profit for its cable TV business (CATV business) as compared to the corresponding year ago quarter Q1 2020. The company’s consolidated revenue from operations for the quarter under review grew 10.8 percent year on year (y-o-y) while consolidated total income expanded 10.1 percent in Q1 2021 as compared to Q1 2020. Consolidated profit after tax grew 39.8 percent to Rs 46.47 crore in Q1 2021 as compared to Rs 33.23 crore in Q1 2020. All the three major segments of the company had operating profits.

    GTPL reported consolidated revenue from operations at Rs 495.46 crore in Q1 2021 as compared to Rs 447.22 crore in Q1 2020. Consolidated total income for the period was Rs 502 crore as compared to Rs 456.05 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. CATV business revenue was Rs 412.53 crore in Q1 2021 as compared to Rs 345.91 crore in Q1 2020. CATV business reported operating result of Rs 50.17 crore for the period under review as compared to Rs 46.06 crore for Q1 2020. ARPU or Q1 2021 was up by Rs 7 to Rs 422 from Rs 415 in the previous year’s corresponding quarter.

    The company’s internet services business (Ex-EPC Project numbers) revenue grew 34 percent to Rs 52.65 crore in Q1 2021 from Rs 39.29 crore in Q1 2020. The segment reported an operating profit of Rs 5.34 crore in Q1 2021 as compared to an operating loss of Rs 0.18 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. The company had been awarded Package B of the prestigious Bharat Net Phase-II project from the Gujarat Fibre Grid Network Ltd under Digital India Initiative (EPC Project) last year. GTPL reported revenue of Rs 30.28 crore an operating profit of Rs 2.01 crore from the EPC Project.

    GTPL reported revenue (Ex EPC Project) of Rs 471.7 crore, which was 20 percent more y-o-y. The company says in an earnings release that its CATV subscription revenue increased seven percent y-o-y to Rs 265.3 crore. EBITDA Ex EPC Project increased 14 percent y-o-y to Rs 126.1 crore.

    On the operational front, GTPL says that it has seeded 100,000 STBs but at the same time, it has lost 300,000 digital paying subscribers in Q1 2021. The company says that it had 72 lakh (7.2 million, 0.72 crore) digital paying subscribers as on 30 June 2020.

    GTPL managing director Anirudhsinh Jadeja said, “GTPL Hathway delivered another strong quarter. The highlight of the quarter was strong profitability anddebt reduction. Our Q1 FY21 consolidated revenue, EBITDA and PAT grew by 10 percent, 11 percent and 39 percent respectively. During the quarter, we have reduced our gross debt by Rs 368 million (Rs 36.8 crore). During the current financial year, we plan to launch a Hybrid box, which will enable us to provide multiservice product that will have Broadband, OTT and Cable service at an attractive price point. Our CATV Business expansion in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana is on track and it will gain momentum in the coming quarters.”

    Consolidated total expenditure increased 9.5 percent during the quarter under review to Rs 444.48 crore from Rs 405.74 crore in Q1 2020. Pay channel cost in Q1 2021 increased 24.8 percent to Rs 226.98 crore from Rs 181.92 crore in the previous year. Other operational costs increased 48.9 percent to Rs 31.85 crore from Rs 21.39 crore.

    Employee benefits expense in Q1 2021 decreased 11.4 percent to Rs 31.28 crore from Rs 35.29 crore in the correspond period of the previous fiscal. Finance costs reduced 33.9 percent during the quarter under review to Rs 8.23 crore from Rs 12.45 crore. Other expenses in the period increased 26.2 percent to Rs 55.46 percent from Rs 43.93 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    Siti Networks reports improved numbers for FY 2020

    BENGALURU: The Essel group’s MSO major Siti Networks Limited reported 5.3 percent higher consolidated simple EBIDTA for the year ended 31 March 2020 (FY 2020, year or period under review) as compared to the previous year FY 2019. The company reported a 12.2 percent increase in operating revenue for the period under review as compared to the previous year. All numbers mentioned in this report are consolidated unless stated otherwise.

    The company has managed to reduce its major expenses, but for Pay Channel, Carriage Sharing & Related Costs (pay channel costs) in FY 2020 which increased 29 percent as compared to the previous year. Overall expenses increased 7.7 percent on account of these pay channel costs. In a note to the financial statements, Siti has explained that its operating revenue includes broadcaster share of subscription revenue, hence it has shown the broadcasters share in its pay channel costs as an expense.

    In its earnings release, Siti says that Subscription Revenue for Q4 2020 grew 25.3 percent y-o-y to Rs. 2,842 million. For FY 2020, Subscription Revenue surged 21.3 percent to Rs.11,567 million.

    The consolidated operating revenue figures reported by Siti are Rs 1,618.59 crore and Rs 1,442.13 crore for FY 2020 and FY 2019 respectively, hence a growth of 12.2 percent as mentioned above. Simple EBIDTA as calculated by the author for FY 2020 was Rs 340.64 crore (21 percent of operating revenue) and for FY 2019 it was Rs 323.61 crore (22.4 percent of operating revenue). Loss for the year under review reduced to Rs 188 crore from Rs 264 crore in the previous year.

    For Q4 2020, Siti’s consolidated operating revenue was Rs 27.8 percent higher y-o-y at Rs 408.29 crore as compared to Rs 415.06 crore in Q4 2019. Simple EBIDTA for Q4 2020 as calculated by the author increased 22.1 percent to Rs 81.58 crore (20 percent of operating revenue) from Rs 66.78 crore (20.9 percent of operating revenue). Loss for the quarter was lower at Rs 70.30 crore as compared to a loss of Rs 123.93 for Q4 2019.

    CEO of Siti CEO Anil Malhotra mentioned: “SITI Networks continued its consistent growth focus while maintaining a strict control on operational efficiencies during FY 2020. Our subscription revenue for Q4 2020 grew by 25.3 percent y-o-y, while our total revenue grew by approximately 23 percent y-o-y. Even for FY 2020, our total revenue jumped by 15.3 percent to Rs. 16,354 million. Our constant mantra of improving operational efficiencies while improving monetization helped us to deliver strong operating EBITDA at INR 3,538 million, in FY 2020, a surge of 1.2 times. Our response to COVID-19 pandemic has been widely appreciated. Our teams and partners have left no stone unturned to ensure that our customers get the best services."

    Total expense in FY 2020 increased 7.7 percent to Rs 1,781,33 crore from Rs 1,654,21 crore in the previous year. Amongst the major expense heads, Pay Channel, Carriage Share & Related Costs increased 29 percent in FY 2020 to Rs 843.96 crore from Rs 654.14 crore in FY 2019. Finance costs in FY 2020 declined 7.6 percent to Rs 157.68 crore from Rs 170.72 crore in FY 2019. Employee benefits expense in FY 2020 declined 8 percent to Rs 74.78 crore from Rs 81.32 crore in the previous year. Other expenses in FY 2020 declined 5.6 percent to Rs 357.70 crore from Rs 378.79 crore in FY 2019.

    Total expense in Q4 2020 increased 16.7 percent to Rs 451.03 crore from Rs 386.39 crore in Q4 2019. Amongst the major expense heads, Pay Channel, Carriage Share & Related Costs increased 47.9 percent in Q4 2020 to Rs 212.82 crore from Rs 143.94 crore. Finance costs in Q4 2020 declined 20.5 percent to Rs 35.52 crore from Rs 44,66 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. Employee benefits expense in Q4 2020 declined 9.4 percent to Rs 16.95 crore from Rs 18.71 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Other expenses in Q4 2020 increased 9.1 percent to Rs 96.53 crore from Rs 88.44 crore in Q4 2019.

    BENGALURU: Kalanathi Maran’s regional telecaster and FM radio broadcaster Sun Tv Network (Sun TV) reported 6.3 percent decrease in consolidated operating revenue for FY 2020 as compared to the previous year FY 2019. The company reported that subscription revenues were up 18.3 percent y-o-y at Rs 1,562.23 crore for the year ended 31 March 2020 (FY 2020, period or year under review) as compared to the previous yeara. Sun TV revealed that it had incurred a 6.3 percent decline in advertising revenue for the year under review at Rs 1,336.91 crore from Rs 1,426.67 crore in FY 2019.

    Sun TV reported 3.3 percent decline in consolidated profit after taxes or PAT to Rs 1,385.49 crore for FY 2020 as compared to Rs 1,432.37 crore for FY 2019.  Sun TV is one of the largest networks in the country that has channels across the four major South Indian languages.

    Consolidated operating revenue for the period was Rs 3,519.85 crore as compared to Rs 3,782.54 crore for FY 2019. Total income (revenue) for FY 2020 reduced 5.7 percent to Rs 3,780.50 crore as compared to Rs 4,009.65 crore in FY 2019.

    Calculated simple consolidated EBITDA for FY 2020 at Rs 2,275.92 crore (60.2 percent of Operating Revenue) was 12.7 percent lower than the Rs 2,606.68 crore (68.9 percent of Operating Revenue) in the previous year

    BENGALURU: The Prannoy and Radhika Roy-led Indian media house New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV) reported 6.4 percent lower consolidated revenue from operations for the year ended 31 March 2020 (FY 2020, year under review) as compared to the previous year FY 2019. The company however reported more than double consolidated (grew 145.8 percent) net profit after tax or PAT for FY 2020 as compared to the previous year. Reported consolidated revenues for FY 2020 and FY 2019 were Rs 373.17 crore and Rs 398.73 crore respectively. PAT for the year was Rs 27.92 crore as compared to Rs 11.36 crore for the previous year.  All figures mentioned in this paper are consolidated unless stated otherwise.

    Total income including other revenue for FY 2020 declined 7 percent to Rs 392.97 crore from Rs 422.36 crore in FY 2019.  Calculated operating profit or EBITDA for the year under consideration was 8.2 percent higher at Rs 52.78 crore (14.1 percent margin) as compared to Rs 48.80 crore for FY 2019.

    The company has been paring expenses – consolidated Total expenses for FY 2020 declined 8.6 percent to Rs 356.08 crore from Rs 389.73 crore in the previous fiscal.  Production expenses and cost of services in FY 2020 declined 0.9 percent to Rs 88.53 crore from Rs 89.37 crore in FY 2019. Employee Benefits Expenses in FY 2020 were 14.4 percent lower at Rs 119.33 crore as compared to Rs 139.46 crore in FY 2019. Finance costs declined 10.8 percent during the year under review declined 10.8 percent to Rs 24.87 crore from Rs 27.88 crore. Operating and administrative expenses for FY 2020 fell 4.3 percent to Rs 72.54 crore from Rs 75.83 crore. Marketing, distribution and promotional expenses for FY 2020 were 11.7 percent lower at Rs 39.99 crore as compared to Rs 42.73 crore in the previous year.

    NDTV has two segments – Television, media and related operations; and Retail/E-Commerce. Television segment operating revenue declined six percent in FY 2020 to Rs 368.83 crore from Rs 392.36 crore in FY 2019. NDTV reported 12.4 percent decline in operating profit before exceptional items, share in profit/ (loss) of associate/ joint ventures, interest and tax to Rs 64.01 crore in FY 2020 from Rs 73.03 crore.

    NDTV reported 38.7 percent fall in operating revenue for its Retail/E-Commerce segment in FY 2020 to Rs 7.04 crore from Rs 11.49 crore in FY 2019. The segment’s loss for the fiscal under review declined to Rs 2.25 crore in FY 2020 from a loss of Rs 12.52 crore in the previous year.

    New Delhi Television Ltd, the television arm of the group, has earned Profit after tax of Rs 752 lakh (RS 7.52 crore) during the quarter ended 31 March 2020 as against profit of Rs 804 lakh (RS 8.04 crore) during the corresponding quarter ended 31 March 2019. As of 31 March 2020, New Delhi Television Ltd’s, the television arm of the group, current liabilities exceed its current assets by Rs 8,274 lakh (Rs 82.74 crore). The television arm of the group, New Delhi Television Ltd’s ability to continue as a going concern is significantly dependent on meeting its long term and short-term working capital requirements, ability to pay overdue payables, management’s implementation of initiatives like rationalising costs, initiatives to improve advertising revenue which are under pressure, negotiating extended credit terms with suppliers and lenders, sale/divestment of non-core businesses and building efficiencies in collections. Based on current business plans and projections prepared by the management, New Delhi Television Ltd expects improvement in operations with better operational efficiencies. The company has proposed to sell a subsidiary, proceeds of which will positively impact the cash flow for New Delhi Television Ltd and the company also has tax receivable of Rs 12,322 lakh (Rs 123.22 crore) as at 31 March 2020. The material nature of the aforesaid matters, may have material adverse impact on future plans of the company. However, management, based on their understanding of the overall business and the planned strategies, believes that the company will be able to meet its contractual obligations and liabilities that fall due in the near future. Accordingly, the financial statements have been prepared on going concern basis.

    BENGALURU: TV Today Network Limited (TVTN) reported 15.5 per cent and 6.3 per cent growth in consolidated revenue from operations (Op Rev) and consolidated profit after tax (PAT) respectively for the year ended 31 March 2020 (FY 2020, year or period under review) as compared to the previous year ago (FY 2019). Consolidated simple operating EBIDTA for the year under review increased 8.2 per cent as compared to FY 2019.

    TVTN reported consolidated Op Rev of Rs 857.22 crore and Rs 742.24 crore for FY 2020 and FY 2019 respectively. Total Income for FY 2020 increased 15.6 per cent to Rs 900.53 from Rs 778.92 crore in FY 2019. Consolidated PAT for FY 2020 was Rs 139.36 crore as compared to Rs 131.10 crore in FY 2019.  Consolidated simple operating EBIDTA for FY 2020 was Rs 215.95 crore (25.2 per cent of Op Rev) as compared to Rs 199.58 crore (26.9 per cent of Op Rev) in FY 2019.

    The board of directors of TVTN recommended a final dividend of Rs 2.25 (45 per cent) per equity share of Rs 5 each for FY 2020. The parent company of the group had earlier paid an interim dividend of Rs 20 per equity share on October 22, 2019. The total dividend for the financial year 2019-20 amounts to Rs 22.25 or 445 per cent per equity share of Rs. 5 each.

    Segment revenue

    TVTN has four segments: television broadcasting (TV); radio broadcasting (radio); others; and newspaper publishing. TV and other segments reported growth in revenue and operating results, while radio and newspaper publishing segments had decline in revenue and the company reported operating losses from these segments.

    TV segment operating revenue grew 14.4 per cent to Rs 698.96 crore in FY 2020 from Rs 611.15 crore in FY 2019. The segment’s operating result was flat in the period under review at Rs180.81 crore as compared to Rs 180.82 crore in the previous year.

    Radio segment operating revenue declined 36.2 per cent in FY 2020 to Rs 14.86 crore from Rs 23.30 crore in FY 2019. Radio operating result was a higher loss of Rs 14 crore in FY 2020 as compared to a loss of Rs 4.74 crore in FY 2019.

    Others segment had operating revenue of Rs 115.73 crore in FY 2020 which was 45.3 per cent higher than the Rs 79.63 crore in the previous year. Others segment operating result at Rs 23.03 crore in FY 2020 was more than twice (grew by 115.3 per cent) from Rs 10.69 crore in FY 2019

    Newspaper publishing business operating revenue declined 1.6 per cent to 28.87 5.74 crore in FY 2020 from Rs 29.30 crore in FY 2019. The company reported operating result of Rs 0.37 crore in FY 2020 as compared to a loss of Rs 2.53 crore in FY 2019.

    TVTN reported consolidated total expenditure of Rs 682.60 crore for FY 2020 which was 18.7 per cent higher than the Rs 574.99 crore in FY 2019. Consolidated cost of materials consumed during the period under review was 23.6 per cent lower in FY 2020 at Rs 2.48 crore as compared to Rs 3.25 crore in FY 2019. Consolidated production cost in FY 2020 increased 16.1 per cent to Rs 91.96 crore from Rs 79.24 crore in the previous fiscal. Consolidated Employee Benefit Expenses in FY 2020 increased 12.7 per cent in FY 2020 to Rs 251.07 crore from Rs 222.69 crore in the previous year. Consolidated Finance costs increased by 243.7 per cent in FY 2020 to Rs 2.83 crore from Rs 0.82 crore in the previous year. Consolidated other expenses increased 24.5 per cent during the year under review to Rs 295.78 crore from Rs 237.48 crore in FY 2019.

    BENGALURU: Indian cable and internet services major GTPL Hathway Ltd (GTPL) reported profit after tax (PAT) for the year ended 31 March 2020 (FY 2020, year under review) at Rs 87.72 crore which was more than triple the PAT of Rs 25.08 crore for the previous fiscal (FY 2019). However, the company reported a loss of Rs 19.59 crore for the quarter ended 31 March 2020 (Q4 2020, quarter under review) as compared to a loss of Rs 23.50 crore for the corresponding year ago quarter (Q4 2019). The board of directors of the company have proposed a dividend of Rs 3 per share (30 percent) of face value of Rs 10 each for the year.

    GTPL has reported adding 700,000 cable TV subscribers and 80,000 internet subscribers during the year under review. It closed FY 2020 and Q4 2020 with eight million (0.8 crore or 80 lakh) CATV active subscribers or 7.5 million (0.75 crore, 75 lakh) paying CATV subscribers and 405,000 internet subscribers.

    The company reported 88 per cent increase in consolidated total income at Rs 2,424.74 crore in FY 2020 as compared to Rs 1,289.15 crore for FY 2019. Consolidated operating income for the year under review increased 91.4 per cent to Rs 2,384.08 crore from Rs 1,245.82 crore in FY 2019. Consolidated total income for Q4 2020 at Rs 666.55 crore was almost double (up 91.1 per cent) as compared to Rs 348.75 crore in Q4 2019. Operating income in Q4 2020 was more than double (up 103.3 per cent) at Rs 655.65 crore as compared to Rs 322.43 crore for the corresponding year ago quarter.

    Segment Revenue

    GTPL Hathway has three segments: CATV, Internet and EPC;  through EPC it is executing a contract for BharatNet, for which it has reported annual revenue for the first time in FY 2020.

    CATV segment reported 42.2 per cent growth in operating revenue for FY 2020 at Rs 1,565.50 crore from Rs 1,101.26 crore in the previous year. The segment had an operating profit growth of 141 per cent at Rs 108.20 crore during the year under review as compared to Rs 44.90 crore in FY 2019. Operating revenue for CATV segment in Q4 2020 grew 49.2 per cent to Rs 427.44 crore from Rs 286.40 crore in Q4 2019. Operating loss for CATV segment increased to Rs 34.62 crore in Q4 2019 as compared to an operating loss of Rs 25.82 crore in Q4 2019.

    Internet services segment revenue in FY 2020 grew 15.9 per cent to Rs 167.60 crore from Rs 144.56 crore in FY 2019. The segment had an operating profit of Rs 4.96 crore in FY 2020 as compared to an operating loss of Rs 2.06 crore in FY 2019. ARPU for the segment in FY 2020 at Rs 422 was higher than the Rs 413 for FY 2019. For Q4 2020, Internet Services revenue grew 28.5 per cent to Rs 46.31 crore from Rs 36.03 crore. The segment had an operating profit of Rs 3.64 crore during the quarter under review as compared to an operating loss of Rs 5.31 crore in Q4 2019. ARPU for Internet Service segment for Q4 2020 at Rs 422 was higher than RS 415 in the immediate trailing quarter, Q3 2020, and the Rs 413 in Q4 2019.

    GTPL reported operating revenue of Rs 650.98 crore in FY 2020 for its EPC Project. The segment had an operating profit of Rs 44.69 crore. For Q4 2019, EPC Project operating revenue was Rs 181.91 crore as compared to Rs 237.66 crore in the immediate trailing quarter Q3 2020.

Our operating ability to expand our services have improved and so has our ability to generate free cashflow. The highlight of FY20 was strong profitability, debt reduction and geographical expansion. Our FY20 consolidated revenue and EBITDA grew by 88 per cent and 39 per cent, respectively. During the year, we have reduced our gross debt by Rs 1,293 million (Rs 129.30 crore). During the year, we have strengthened our CATV presence in Mumbai (Maharashtra) and have entered Chennai (Tamil Nadu). We have also expanded our subscribers base in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in FY20.”

    “FY20 was the first full year of implementation of the New Framework across the industry. Implementation of new regime prima facie resulted in change in LCOs’ earning profile adversely and restricted their cash flow cycle, consequently, lowering their ability to pay their dues to the company. Pursuant to the above change and assessment carried out by the management, we have recognised Rs 679.64 million (Rs 67.964 crore) towards impairment of trade receivables and have disclosed the same as ‘Exceptional Item’", added Jadeja.

Pay channel cost in FY 2020 reduced 38.5 per cent to Rs 513.77 crore from Rs 835.92 crore in the previous year. Other operational costs declined 5.8 per cent to Rs 88.34 crore from Rs 93.90 crore in the previous year.

    Employee benefits expense in FY2020 increased 16.2 per cent to Rs 126.1 crore from Rs 108.44 crore in the previous fiscal. Finance costs increased 14.2 per cent during the year under review to Rs 51.35 crore from Rs 44.95 crore. Other expenses in the period declined 26.2 per cent to Rs 178.42 crore from Rs 243.86 crore in FY 2019.

The company reported consolidated profit after taxes or PAT growth at 7.2 percent to Rs 384.69 crore for Q3 2020 as compared to Rs 359.01 crore for Q3 2019. Standalone PAT increased 6.3 percent y-o-y to Rs 373.45 crore from Rs 351.33 crore.

    The board of directors of the company has announced the third interim dividend in the year of Rs 7.50 per share (150 percent) on a face value of Rs 5 per share.

Consolidated operating revenue for the period was Rs 8547.81 crore as compared to Rs 939.31 crore for Q3 2019. Total income (revenue) for Q3 2020 reduced 67.9 percent y-o-y to Rs 914.71 crore as compared to Rs 992.58 crore in Q3 2019.

    Standalone operating revenue declined 9.9 percent to Rs 814.97 crore in Q3 2020 to Rs 904.45 crore in Q3 2019. Standalone Total income (revenue) for the period declined 8.1 percent y-o-y to Rs 878.56 crore from Rs 956.04 crore.

    Calculated simple consolidated EBITDA for Q3 2020 at Rs 595.27 crore was 12.3 percent lower y-o-y than the Rs  678.80 crore. Simple standalone EBITDA for the period declined 13 percent y-o-y to Rs 580.36 crore from Rs 667.20 crore in Q3 2019.

    Standalone Total expenditure in Q3 2020 declined 8.2 y-o-y percent to Rs 380.1 crore as compared to Rs 414.04 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    SunRisers Hyderabad numbers

    Sun Tv says for the nine months ended 31 December 2019 (9M 2020) income from the company's IPL franchise SunRisers Hyderabad for season 2019 (partial) was Rs 244 44 crore as compared to Rs 386.29 crore for IPL 2018., hence a decline of 36.7 percent. Corresponding costs in 9M 2019 declined 26.8 percent y-o-y to Rs 138 46 crore from Rs 189 15 crore for 9M 2019. Hence the net operating profit for Sun Tv’s IPL franchise declined 46.2 percent y-o-y in 9M 2020 to Rs 105.98 crore from Rs 197.14 crore.

    BENGALURU: One of the most successful television content production houses in India, the Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor-led Balaji Telefilms Ltd (Balaji) reported growth in revenue from all its three segments for the quarter ended 31 December 2019 (Q3 2019, quarter or period under review) as compared to the corresponding year ago quarter Q3 2019.  The company’s board of directors has declared an interim dividend of 20 percent or Rs 0.40 per share for the financial year 2019-20.

    In its investor presentation, the Balaji says that its TV Business contributes to 15 percent of prime-time ratings and that it is the number one production house by a wide margin. It had nine shows running through the quarter with two new launches, while two shows came to an end. The Indian drama series Yeh Hai Chahatein, a spin-off show based on Yeh Hai Mohabbatein was launched on Star Plus. The fourth season of the very popular supernatural series Naagin was launched on Viacom18’s flagship Hindi GEC Colors, replacing Kaavach 2. Also Balaji Telefilms released one new film – Dream Girl in Q3 2019.

    Balaji’s posted more than double (up 144.5 percent) y-o-y growth in standalone profit after tax or PAT for Q3 2019. Standalone revenue from operations increased 77.9 percent y-o-y in Q3 2020.

    Though it has yet to become profitable, Balaji’s OTT platform ALT Balaji operating revenue almost tripled (increased 187.5 percent y-o-y to Rs 23.14 crore during the period under review as compared to Rs 8.05 crore in Q3 2019. The company reported lower operating loss for ALT Balaji at Rs 12.27 crore for Q3 2020 as compared to an operating loss of Rs 32.95 crore for Q3 2019.

    Revenue from the company’s television programming increased 3.4 percent y-o-y to Rs 81.96 crore in Q3 2020 as compared to Rs 79.3 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. Revenue from Commissioned programmes segment increased 28.2 percent y-o-y in Q3 2020 to Rs 133.10 crore from Rs 103.79 crore in Q3 2019. Commissioned programmes business operating results increased by 56.2 percent during the period to Rs 27.94 crore as compared to Rs 17.89 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. Balaji produced 10.1 percent more programming hours during the quarter under review at 219 hours as compared to 199 hours in Q3 2019, but realisation per hour in Q3 2020 at Rs 0.37 crore was lower y-o-y as compared to Rs 0.40 crore in Q3 2019 according to the company’s investor presentation.

    Revenue from Balaji’s Films segment increased nine-fold (increased 800.4 percent) y-o-y in Q3 2020 to Rs 93.89 crore from Rs 25.33 crore. Films segment operating results was more than 70 times higher (up 6,978.9 percent) at Rs 33.50 crore as compared to an operating profit of Rs 0.43 crore in Q3 2019.

    Balaji’s standalone PAT for Q3 2020 and Q3 2019 was Rs 29.41 crore and Rs 12.02 crore respectively.  On a consolidated basis, the company reported PAT in Q3 2020 at Rs 13.83 crore as compared to a consolidated loss of Rs 27.31 crore in Q3 2019. Standalone EBITDA increased by 77.9 percent y-o-y in Q3 2020 to Rs 198.36 crore from Rs 111.50 crore.

    Standalone operating revenue for Q3 2020 and Q3 2019 was Rs 198.36 crore and Rs 111.50 crore respectively. Consolidated operating revenue in Q3 2020 increased 95 percent y-o-y to Rs 187.89 crore from Rs 96.33 crore.

    Consolidated cost of production was almost flat (declined 0.9 percent) y-o-y in Q3 2020 to Rs 95.07 crore as compared to Rs 95.95 crore. Consolidated marketing and distribution expenses in Q3 2020 declined 37.1 percent y-o-y to Rs 6.76 crore from Rs 10.74 crore. Consolidated employee benefits expense in Q3 2020 declined 34.2 percent y-o-y to Rs 9.37 crore from Rs 14.25 crore. Consolidated other expenses in Q2 2020 increased 63 percent y-o-y to Rs 16.02 crore from Rs 9.83 crore.

    BENGALURU: Indian leading multi-system operator (MSO) Siti Networks Limited (Siti) reported 7.8 percent increase in revenue from operations at Rs 1,210.29 crore for the nine month period ended 30 December 2019 (9M 2020, YTD 2020) as compared to the Rs 1,122.71 crore for the corresponding nine month period of the previous year (9M 2019, previous nine month period).  The company’s total expense for 9M 2020 increased 4.9 percent to Rs 1,330.30 crore (108.8 percent of Total Income) from Rs 1,267.81 crore (111,6 percent of Total Income) in the previous nine month period. Siti’s total expense across all major heads decreased 7.7 percent in 9M 2020, as compared to 9M 2019, but for pay channel, carriage share and related costs which increased by Rs 120.94 crore or 23.7 percent.

    Sit reported a lower loss of Rs 117.87 crore in 9M 2020 as compared to a loss of Rs 140.36 crore in 9M 2020.

    Siti claims in its earnings release that 9M 2020 operating EBITDA surged 1.24 times over similar duration of last fiscal, to Rs. 267.6 crore. The company attributes this jump to strict control over expenses and operating efficiencies. Siti says that its operating EBITDA Margin for 9M 2020 also expanded by 1.1 times y-o-y to 22 percent.

    Siti says its subscription revenue for 9M 2020 grew 19.5 percent y-o-y to Rs. 868.7 crore, aided by the strong growth. Subscription ARPU  leapt 1.8 times to Rs.128 per month. Total Revenue (excluding activation) also surged 12.7 percent y-o-y to Rs. 1218.9 crore for the same period.

    For the quarter ended 31 December 2019 (Q3 2020, quarter under review), revenue from operations increased 4.3 percent y-o-y to Rs 402.60 crore from Rs 385.92 crore in Q3 2019. Total Income increased 4.6 percent in the quarter under review to Rs 407.94 crore from Rs 390.11 crore. Loss for Q3 2020 at Rs 33.56 crore was lower than loss of Rs 35.41 crore in Q3 2019.

    Total expense in Q3 2020 increased 4.9 percent to Rs 442.17 crore from Rs 421.70 crore, Excluding pay channel, carriage sharing and related costs, expenses in Q3 2020 declined 10.6 percent to Rs 227.75 crore from Rs 254.72 crore in Q3 2019. Employee benefits expense in Q3 2020 declined 9.5 percent to Rs 18.75 crore from Rs 20.71 crore in Q3 2019. Finance costs in Q3 2020 reduced 7.5 percent to Rs 38.06 crore from Rs 41.13 crore. Other expense in Q3 2020 decreased 13.4 percent to Rs 84.28 crore from Rs 97.33 crore.

    BENGALURU: Mukesh Dhirbhai Ambani’s largest start up in the world, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) reported 62.5 percent growth in standalone profit after tax (PAT) for the period ended 31 December 2019 (Q3 2020, period or quarter under review) as compared to the corresponding year ago quarter Q3 2019 (y-o-y). The company reported standalone PAT of Rs 1,350 crore for Q3 2020 as compared to Rs 831 crore for Q3 2019. The company’s standalone EBIDTA (including other income) expanded 38.2 percent y-o-y to Rs 5,601 crore in Q3 2020 from Rs 4,053 crore. Jio says that it became a net recipient of access charges within 2 months of implementation of IUC tariffs, with outgoing traffic in overall offnet traffic reducing to 48 percent by end of quarter.

    Further, the company’s standalone revenue from operations for the period under review grew 28.2 percent y-o-y to Rs 13,968 crore from Rs 10,884 crore in Q3 2019. Total income in Q3 2020 grew 28.5 percent y-o-y to Rs 13,986 crore from Rs 10,885 crore.

    Jio reported a subscriber base of 37 crore as on 31 December 2019. Gross subscriber additions were 3.71 crore with a net subscriber addition of 1.48 crore during Q3 2020. The company says that the 2.2 crore subscribers that were lost were primarily excessively heavy voice users, and exited owing to implementation of IUC tariffs due to regulatory uncertainty. ARPU during the quarter was Rs 128.4 per subscriber per month Jio says that customer engagement continues to be robust with average data consumption per user per month of 11.1 GB and average voice consumption of 760 minutes per user per month.

    Amongst the major expenses incurred by Jio in Q3 2020 were network operating expenses, access charges, license fees and spectrum charges and net finance costs.

    Jio’s standalone network operating expenses increased 38.7 percent y-o-y in Q3 2020 to Rs 4,423 crore from Rs 3,190 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter.  Standalone access charges reduced 4.2 percent y-o-y during the period under review to Rs 1,442 crore from Rs 1,506 crore in Q3 2019. Standalone license fees and spectrum charges increased 30.5 percent y-o-y during the quarter to Rs 1,483 crore from Rs 1,136 crore. Standalone net finance costs in Q3 2020 increased 79 percent y-o-y to Rs 1,953 crore from Rs 1,091 crore in Q3 2019.

    Standalone employee benefit expense in Q3 2020 declined 26.3 percent y-o-y to Rs 314 crore from Rs 426 crore. Standalone selling and distribution expense in Q3 2020 increased 20.3 percent y-o-y to Rs 356 crore from Rs 296 crore. Standalone other expenses in the period increased 32 percent y-o-y to Rs 367 crore from Rs 278 crore.

    Jio says in an earnings release that Jio Platforms Limited will hold all digital platforms including the connectivity platform i.e. Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. Total capitalisation of Jio Platforms Limited is Rs 1,70,000 crore. The release says that the capital and organisation structure of Jio Platforms Limited has been benchmarked with global technology players.

    The Jio release also states that it has been developing and fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem through various digital applications, tools and platforms spanning self-care, information, entertainment, chat, utility tools etc. The release further states that Jio continues to focus on technology enabled emerging digital platforms that enable and accelerate digital society – healthcare, education, agriculture, commerce, gaming, government to citizen services, and many more.
