    Hathway Q2-17 revenue and EBIDTA up; adds 1 lakh broadband subs

    BENGALURU: Indian multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable and Datacom Limited (Hathway) reported 18.8 per cent growth in Total Income from operations (TIO) and 11.9 percent growth in operating profits (EBIDTA) for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current quarter). The company reported TIO of Rs 321.07 crore in Q2-17 as compared to Rs 270.35 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

    The company’s EBDITA including other income in the current quarter was Rs 54.9 crore (17 percent EBIDTA margin) and was Rs 49.05 crore (17.9 percent EBIDTA margin) in Q2-16. The company’s loss in the current quarter increased to Rs 40.45 crore from a loss of Rs 31.99 crore in Q2-16.

    High growth in Cable subscription revenue, Activation fees and Broadband revenue are chiefly responsible for the improved performance says the company. The company’s broadband segment has been performing very well, as a matter of fact, among the national level MSOs’ Hathway has the highest subscription and revenue numbers among all of them. Within Hathway, in Q2-17, Broadband subscription had the highest contribution to revenue, even more than Cable TV subscription revenue

    Hathway’s broadband subscriber base increased to 8 lakh in Q2-17 from 7 lakh in the immediate trailing quarter. Consolidated broadband revenue in the current quarter as per IND AS increased 67 percent to Rs 120.3 crore from Rs 71.9 crore in the previous year. Broadband ARPU in the current quarter increased to Rs 643 from Rs 616 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, but declined from Rs 670 in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Consolidated reported CATV subscription revenue as per IND AS in the current quarter increased 12 percent to Rs 120.2 crore from Rs 107.5 crore in Q2-16 Hathway says that it has achieved a milestone of deployed 18 lakh STBs, of which 8 lakh STBs were deployed in Phase III & IV areas during Q1- 17. The company says that it has now digitized 92 percent of its cable TV universe. CATV ARPU in DAS Phase I increased to Rs 105 from Rs 100 in the corresponding year ago quarter.CATV ARPU in Phase II areas increased to Rs 90 from Rs 80 in Q2-16. ARPU from phase III areas was Rs 30.

    Placement revenue as per IND AS in the current quarter declined 23 percent to Rs 65.4 crore from Rs 84.8 crore in Q2-16.
    Activation revenue as per IND AS increased 37 percent y-o-y in Q2-17 to Rs 20.2 crore from Rs 14.7 crore in Q2-16.
    Other revenue as per IND AS declined 5 percent in Q2-17 to Rs 4.8 crore from Rs 5.1 in Q2-16.

    Hathway’s Standalone Total Expenditure in Q2-17 increased 19 percent to Rs 340.49 crore (99.6 percent of TIO) from Rs 286.19 crore (105.9 percent of TIO) in the previous year.

    Standalone Pay channel cost in the current quarter increased 22.3 percent to Rs 104.31 crore (32.2 percent of TIO) from Rs 85.56 crore (31.3 percent of TIO) in FY-15. Standalone Employee Benefit expense in Q2-17 increased 46.9 percent y-o-y to Rs 23.53 crore from Rs 16.02 crore.

    BENGALURU: The Subhash Chandra led Siti Networks Limited (Siti) formerly known as Siti Cable Network Limited, reported 23.6 percent and 2.9 percent year-over-year (y-o-y) growth in operating revenue and EBIDTA including other income for the quarter ended 30 September 2106 (Q2-17, current quarter). The growth in revenue was led by a 33.3 percent y-o-y growth in restated subscription revenue on net billing basis of Rs 135.3 crore (46.8 percent of Total Income from Operations or TIO) as compared to Rs 101.5 crore (43.4 percent of TIO) reported for the corresponding year ago quarter.

    However, reported subscription revenue as per published financials in the current quarter increased by just 0.9 percent y-o-y to Rs 139.7 crore (48.3 percent of TIO) from Rs 138.5 crore (59.2 percent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter.

    Siti reported TIO of Rs 288.98 crore in Q2-17 or a 23.6 percent y-o-y improvement from the Rs 233.87 crore in Q2-16. EBIDTA including other income for the current quarter was Rs 49.71 crore (17.2 percent margin), for Q2-16 it was Rs 48.30 crore (20.7 percent margin).

    Loss in the current quarter was higher at Rs 46.89 crore as compared to a loss of Rs 31.43 crore in Q2-16, but lower than the loss of Rs 53.62 crore in the immediate trailing quarter (Q1-17).

    Activation, Carriage and Broadband numbers

    Activation fees in the current quarter more than doubled (200.5 percent) y-o-y to Rs 38.3 crore (13.3 percent of TIO) from Rs 19.1 crore (8.2 percent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter. Carriage revenue increased 25.5 percent y-o-y to Rs 75.7 crore (26.2 percent of TIO) in Q2-17 as compared to Rs 60.3 crore (25.8 percent of TIO) in Q2-16.

    Broadband revenue increased 167.7 percent y-o-y to Rs 24.9 crore (8.6 percent of TIO) in the current quarter from Rs 9.3 crore (4 percent of TIO) in Q2-16.

    The company’s cable TV customer base was stable at 1.22 crore in the current quarter as compared to the immediate trailing quarter. The company had 1.07 crore cable customers in Q2-16. The company says that is now present in 400 plus locations in India serving a total digital subscriber base of 87 lakh customers. For the last quarter the company had reported a digital subscriber base of 84 lakh and 59 lakh for Q2-16.

    Siti has added about 28,000 broadband subscribers in Q2-17 taking its subscriber base to 195,000 from 167,000 subscribers in Q1-17. It had a broadband subscriber base of 91,450 in Q2-16.

    Finance costs in the current quarter reduced to Rs 28 crore (9.7 percent of TIO) from Rs 34.76 crore (14.9 percent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter. Total Expenditure increased 29.3 percent y-o-y to Rs 298.81 crore (103.4 percent of TIO) from Rs 231.04 crore (98.8 percent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter. Employee Benefit Expense increased 21.2 percent y-o-y to Rs 20.7 crore (7.2 percent of TIO) in the current quarter from Rs 17.08 crore (7.3 percent of TIO) in Q2-16.  Carriage sharing, pay channel and related costs in Q2-17 increased 15.6 percent y-o-y to Rs 143.41 crore from (49.6 percent of TIO) Rs 124.01 crore (53 percent of TIO) in Q2-16.

This could have been significantly better but for the delay in digitization because of pending court cases, which continues to impact monetization in the phase 3 areas. Although the majority of the stay orders have been vacated by the Honourable Delhi High Court, the closure of the balance pending cases will lead to complete switch off of analogue signals, improve monetization and significantly spur the growth of the industry.

    The expected implementation of the new Draft Tariff Order will be a game changer and is more beneficial for the distribution platforms post execution. However, the success of the same will lie in its effective implementation.”

    BENGALURU: New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV) Television segment reported lower loss at Rs 3.94 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current quarter) as compared to the operating loss of Rs 8.41 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous year (y-o-y). The segment’s consolidated operating loss in the current quarter was just a fraction of the operating loss of Rs 22.83 crore in the immediate trailing quarter (q-o-q).

    Overall, the company reported almost flat y-o-y net loss after taxes of Rs 17.22 crore as compared to a loss of Rs 17.19 crore. Loss in the immediate trailing quarter was more than double at Rs 38.36 crore. NDTV attributes the improved performance to improved advertising revenues alongside lower costs in Convergence, NDTV’s digital content subsidiary and E-Commerce segment.

    NDTV’s consolidated Total Income from Operations (TIO, revenue) in the current quarter declined 4.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 123.31 crore from Rs 127.60 crore, but increased 9.3 per cent q-o-q from Rs 112.81 crore.

    NDTV had negative EBIDTA (operating loss) of Rs 3.64 crore in Q2-17; negative EBIDTA of Rs 10.91 crore in Q2-16; and negative EBIDTA of Rs 26.78 crore in Q1-17.

    Segment numbers

    NDTV’s Television Media and related operations (Television) segment reported 3.4 per cent y-o-y decline in revenue in Q2-17 at 121.03 crore as compared to Rs 125.25 crore, but an 8.3 per cent q-o-q increase from Rs Rs 111.78 crore. The segment’s operating loss has been mentioned above.

    NDTV’s Retail/eCommerce (eCommerce) segment reported 19 per cent y-o-y decline in revenue at Rs 3.20 crore as compared to Rs 3.95 crore, but a 60 per cent q-o-q increase from Rs 2 crore in Q1-17.

    Total Expenditure (TE) in the current quarter declined 9.4 per cent y-o-y to Rs 134.84 crore (109.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 148.77 crore (116.6 per cent of TIO) and declined 8.3 per cent q-o-q from Rs 147.11 crore (130.4 per cent of TIO) in Q1-17.

    NDTV’s consolidated Production Expense (PE) increased 4.4 per cent y-o-y in Q2-17 to Rs 28.62 crore (23.2 per cent of TIO) from Rs 27.41 crore (21.5 per cent of TIO) and increased 1.9 per cent q-o-q from Rs 28.09 crore (24.9 per cent of TIO).

    The company’s Marketing, distribution and promotional expense (Marketing expense) in the current quarter reduced 35 per cent y-o-y to Rs 19.67 crore (16 per cent of TIO) from Rs 30.28 crore (23.7 per cent of TIO) and declined 13.3 per cent from 22.69 crore (20.1 per cent of TIO) in Q1-17.

    NDTV’s Employee Benefit Expense (EBE) in Q2-17 declined 5.1 per cent y-o-y in Q2-17 to Rs 45.19 crore (36.6 per cent of TIO) from Rs 47.63 crore and declined 21.9 per cent from Rs 57.86 crore (51.3 per cent of TIO).

    Operating and administration expenses (Admin expenses) in Q2-17 increased 10.5 per cent y-o-y to Rs 34.71 crore (28.1 per cent of TIO) from Rs 31.42 crore (24.6 per cent of TIO) and increased 4.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 33.14 crore (29.4 per cent of TIO).

    Finance Costs in the current year increased 26.8 per cent y-o-y to Rs 6.63 crore (5.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 5.23 crore (4.1 per cent of TIO) and increasd 56 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.25 crore (3.8 per cent of TIO).

    Lower TV segment revenue adds to Saregama Q2-17 numbers downturn

    BENGALURU: Indian custodians of music company Saregama Limited (Saregama) reported 14.2 per cent year-over-year (y-o-y) and 0.9 per cent quarter-over-quarter (q-o-q) declines in total income from operations (TIO) for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current quarter). The company reported TIO of Rs 47.90 crore in Q2-17, Rs 55.80 crore in Q2-16 and Rs 48.33 crore in Q1-17. The company also saw a decline in Net Sales revenue as well as License Fees revenue in the current quarter.

    The company’s profit after tax (PAT) in Q2-17 declined to less than half (1/2.25 times) y-o-y to Rs 1.15 crore (2.4 per cent margin) from Rs 2.59 crore (4.6 per cent margin) and declined 34.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 1.76 crore (3.6 per cent margin). EBIDTA including other income in Q2-17 declined 26.8 per cent y-o-y to Rs 4.06 crore and declined 12.1 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.62 crore.

    The company has two segments – Music and Television Serials (TV).

    Music segment reported 5.2 per cent y-o-y decline in operating revenue to Rs 31.23 crore from Rs 39.24 crore and declined 2.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 32.11 crore. Music segment reported 44.4 per cent y-o-y decline in operating profit to Rs 6.1 crore in the current quarter from Rs 32.94 crore and 45.8 per cent q-o-q decline from Rs 11.25 crore.

    Saregama’s TV segment reported 27.1 per cent y-o-y decline in operating revenue in Q2-17 to Rs 16.67 crore from Rs 22.86 crore, but a 2,8 per cent q-o-q increase from Rs 16.22 crore. TV segment operating profit declined 53.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 1.61 crore from Rs 3.49 crore and declined 35.6 per cent q-o-q from Rs 2.50 crore.

    Saregama also reports revenue from three streams –‘Net Sales Income’, ‘License Fee’, and ‘Other’. Net Sales Income in Q2-17 declined 23.1 per cent y-o-y to Rs 17.93 crore (37.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 23.31 crore (41.8 per cent of TIO), but increased 5 per cent q-o-q from Rs 17.08 crore (35.3 per cent of TIO).

    License Fees income in the current quarter declined 7.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 29.89 crore (62.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 32.44 crore (58.1 per cent of TIO) and declined 4.1 per cent from Rs 31.18 crore (64.5 per cent of TIO) in Q2-16.

    Other Income in the current quarter was Rs 0.08 crore; Rs 0.05 crore in Q2-16; and Rs 0.07 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Saregama’s Total Expense in the current quarter at Rs 48.76 crore (101.8 per cent of TIO) was 9.9 per cent less than the Rs 54.14 crore (97 per cent of TIO) in Q2-16, but was 7.0 per cent more than the Rs 48.33 crore (94.3 per cent of TIO) in Q1-17.

    The company’s Royalty Fee expense in Q2-17 at Rs 4.25 crore (8.9 per cent of TIO) declined 20.4 per cent y-o-y from Rs 5.34 crore (9.6 per cent of TIO) but increased 1.2 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.20 crore (8.7 per cent of TIO).

    Saregama’s advertising and sales promotion expense in Q2-17 at Rs 4.74 crore (9.9 per cent of TIO) increased 12.9 per cent y-o-y from Rs 4.20 crore (7.5 per cent of TIO) and increased 3.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.57 crore (9.5 per cent of TIO).

    BENGALURU: Indian custodians of music company Saregama Limited (Saregama) reported 14.2 per cent year-over-year (y-o-y) and 0.9 per cent quarter-over-quarter (q-o-q) declines in total income from operations (TIO) for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current quarter). The company reported TIO of Rs 47.90 crore in Q2-17, Rs 55.80 crore in Q2-16 and Rs 48.33 crore in Q1-17. The company also saw a decline in Net Sales revenue as well as License Fees revenue in the current quarter.

    The company’s profit after tax (PAT) in Q2-17 declined to less than half (1/2.25 times) y-o-y to Rs 1.15 crore (2.4 per cent margin) from Rs 2.59 crore (4.6 per cent margin) and declined 34.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 1.76 crore (3.6 per cent margin). EBIDTA including other income in Q2-17 declined 26.8 per cent y-o-y to Rs 4.06 crore and declined 12.1 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.62 crore.

    The company has two segments – Music and Television Serials (TV).

    Music segment reported 5.2 per cent y-o-y decline in operating revenue to Rs 31.23 crore from Rs 39.24 crore and declined 2.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 32.11 crore. Music segment reported 44.4 per cent y-o-y decline in operating profit to Rs 6.1 crore in the current quarter from Rs 32.94 crore and 45.8 per cent q-o-q decline from Rs 11.25 crore.

    Saregama’s TV segment reported 27.1 per cent y-o-y decline in operating revenue in Q2-17 to Rs 16.67 crore from Rs 22.86 crore, but a 2,8 per cent q-o-q increase from Rs 16.22 crore. TV segment operating profit declined 53.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 1.61 crore from Rs 3.49 crore and declined 35.6 per cent q-o-q from Rs 2.50 crore.

    Saregama also reports revenue from three streams –‘Net Sales Income’, ‘License Fee’, and ‘Other’. Net Sales Income in Q2-17 declined 23.1 per cent y-o-y to Rs 17.93 crore (37.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 23.31 crore (41.8 per cent of TIO), but increased 5 per cent q-o-q from Rs 17.08 crore (35.3 per cent of TIO).

    License Fees income in the current quarter declined 7.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 29.89 crore (62.4 per cent of TIO) from Rs 32.44 crore (58.1 per cent of TIO) and declined 4.1 per cent from Rs 31.18 crore (64.5 per cent of TIO) in Q2-16.

    Other Income in the current quarter was Rs 0.08 crore; Rs 0.05 crore in Q2-16; and Rs 0.07 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Saregama’s Total Expense in the current quarter at Rs 48.76 crore (101.8 per cent of TIO) was 9.9 per cent less than the Rs 54.14 crore (97 per cent of TIO) in Q2-16, but was 7.0 per cent more than the Rs 48.33 crore (94.3 per cent of TIO) in Q1-17.

    The company’s Royalty Fee expense in Q2-17 at Rs 4.25 crore (8.9 per cent of TIO) declined 20.4 per cent y-o-y from Rs 5.34 crore (9.6 per cent of TIO) but increased 1.2 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.20 crore (8.7 per cent of TIO).

    Saregama’s advertising and sales promotion expense in Q2-17 at Rs 4.74 crore (9.9 per cent of TIO) increased 12.9 per cent y-o-y from Rs 4.20 crore (7.5 per cent of TIO) and increased 3.7 per cent q-o-q from Rs 4.57 crore (9.5 per cent of TIO).

    BENGALURU: Indian direct to home (DTH) company Dish TV India Limited (Dish TV) has reported growth across important financial and operational parameters including operating revenues (TIO) , EBIDTA and subscription numbers. The company reported addition of 2.59 lakh net subscribers for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current). It closed the quarter with 151 lakh subscribers. Average revenue per user (ARPU) for Q2-17 was Rs 162 in the current quarter versus Rs 161 in the corresponding year ago quarter..

    Dish TV reported 11.9 per cent higher y-o-y subscription revenue of Rs 728.8 crore for Q2-17, as compared to Rs 651.4 crore. Operating revenue in the current quarter increased 9.6 per cent y-o-y to Rs 779.6 crore from Rs 711.2 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. (Refer Note 2.1 and 2.2 below)

    Segment Revenue

    Three segments contribute to Dish TV’s numbers – DTH; Infra Support Services; and ‘Others’.

    DTH segment revenue in Q2-17 declined 14.2 per cent to Rs 509.55 crore from Rs 594.16 crore in Q2-16. The segment reported 15.5 per cent lower operating profit in the current quarter at Rs 86.43 crore as compared to Rs 102.24 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter.

    Infra Support services segment reported 13.7 higher y-o-y revenue of Rs 280.65 crore in Q2-17 vis-à-vis Rs 246.91 crore in Q2-16. The segment’s operating profit declined 39.3 per cent in the current quarter to Rs 12.30 crore from Rs 20.26 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter.

    ‘Others’ segment revenue increased 3.5 per cent in Q2-17 to Rs 5.59 crore from Rs 5.40 crore in Q2-16. The segment’s operating profit grew 5.3 per cent in the current quarter to Rs 2.80 crore from Rs 2.6 6 crore in Q2-16.

    Dish TV reported PAT of Rs. 70.1 crore in Q2-17, down 19.4 per cent as compared to Rs 87 crore in Q2-16.

    EBIDTA in the current quarter increased 3.6 per cent to Rs 264.2 crore from Rs 255 crore in Q2-16.

    Expense in the current quarter increased 12.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 51.51 crore from Rs 456.2 crore. Employee Benefits Expense increased 23.1 per cent y-o-y to Rs 36.4 crore from Rs 29.58 crore. Other operating expenses in the current quarter declined 30.8 per cent to Rs 70.14 crore from Rs 101.30 crore in Q2-16..

    Licensing fees in the current quarter increased 1.3 per cent to Rs 54.52 crore from Rs 53.81 crore in Q2-17. Programming/Content and other costs in Q2-17 increased 17.4 per cent to Rs 238.92 crore from Rs 203.54 crore in Q2-16.

    Dish TV managing director Jawahar Goel said, “Torrential rains in many parts of the country often force consumers to defer buying a new DTH connection while the existing ones may delay recharging if the going gets too tough. Both sales and recharge however normalize subsequently if the festival season hits early. Targeting phase 3 & 4 markets, our subscriber additions during the quarter remained in-line with expectations.”

    Expressing his views on the regulatory developments, Goel, said, “While the draft Regulations have been formulated with an intention of subscriber welfare, there are certain omissions, optimistic presumptions as well as unanswered questions that would hopefully be addressed once the final orders see the light of the day. We appreciate the spirit of transparency and non-discrimination that have been the guiding force behind these draft orders and hope that DTH would soon get the level playing field that it has been seeking. Restrictions placed on carriage fees should go a long way in correcting the industry macro environment.”

    “We continue to remain positive about other regulatory interventions including the proposed new license regime for the DTH sector and the impending nationwide roll-out of Goods and Services Tax (GST). The centre proposing 12 per cent and 18 per cent as the standard rates for majority of the taxable goods is a welcome step,” he added.

    Discussing the results, Goel said, “Healthy subscriber additions led to a 11.9% y-o-y growth in subscription revenues. EBITDA margin was 33.9 per cent. Net Profit for the quarter was Rs. 701 million (Rs 70.1 crore) and positive Free Cash Flow was Rs. 791 million (Rs 79.1 crore).”

    BENGALURU: The Essel Group’s news network Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) reported more than double (2.47 times) year-over-year (y-o-y) operating profit (Simple EBIDTA) for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 (Q2-17, current quarter) . The company reported EBIDTA of Rs 18 crore (14.3 per cent of Total Income from Operations or TIO) in Q2-17 as compared to Rs 7.28 crore (5.7 per cent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter. The company’s EBIDTA grew 1.6 per cent quarter-over-quarter (q-o-q) from Rs 17.71 crore (13.8 per cent of TIO) in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Revenue breakup

    ZMCL’s TIO in the current quarter was almost flat y-o-y as well as q-o-q. The company reported 0.7 per cent y-o-y decline in Q2-17 at Rs 126.15 crore as compared to Rs 127.05 crore and a 1.6 per cent q-o-q decline from Rs 128.24 crore.

    ZMCL reported an 8.3 per cent y-o-y growth in advertising revenue in Q2-17 at Rs 98.24 crore (77.9 per cent of TIO) as compared to Rs 90.69 crore, but a 4 per cent q-o-q decline from Rs 102.35 crore. Advertising revenue from ZMCL’s existing channels increased 17.7 per cent y-o-y in Q2-17 to Rs 77.63 crore from Rs 65.93 crore but declined 3 per cent q-o-q from Rs 80.01 crore. Advertising revenue from new channels increased 6.3 per cent y-o-y in Q2-17 to Rs 7.08 crore from Rs 6.66 crore, but declined 2.9 per cent q-o-q from Rs 7.29 crore

    Since 1 June, 2016, the company’s flagship channel Zee News became free-to-air (FTA). Subscription revenue in the current quarter declined 39.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 16.37 crore (13 per cent of TIO) from Rs 27.24 crore (21.4 per cent of TIO) and declined 8.4 per cent q-o-q from Rs 17.89 crore (14 per cent of TIO).

    Subscription revenues from Existing channels declined 42.3 per cent y-o-y to Rs 14.09 crore from Rs 24.44 crore and declined 9 per cent q-o-q from Rs 15.48 crore.

    Other sales and services revenue increased 26.8 per cent q-o-q to Rs 11.55 crore (9.2 per cent of TIO) from Rs 9.11 crore (7.2 per cent of TIO) and increased 44.4 per cent from Rs 8 crore in the immediate trailing quarter. Other revenues for existing channels declined 45.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 1.77 crore from Rs 3.27 crore, but increased 14.2 per cent from Rs 1.55 crore.

    Business Revenue breakup

    Revenue from ZMCL’s Television Broadcasting Busin ess (TV Business) was flat y-o-y (increased by 0.3 per cent) at Rs 100.57 crore as compared to Rs 100.30 crore, but declined 3.6 per cent q-o-q from Rs 104.34 crore. The TV Business reported more than sevenfold (7.41 times) y-o-y increase in operating profit at Rs 13.89 crore as compared to Rs1.88 crore, but a 6.1 per cent q-o-q decline from Rs 104.34 crore.

    Revenue from ZMCL’s print business was almost flat (increased 0.7 per cent) y-o-y at Rs 30.26 crore vis-à-vis Rs 30.03 crore and increased 4.3 per cent q-o-q from Rs 29 crore. The business reported lower y-o-y operating loss of Rs 5.88 crore as compared to Rs 6.86 crore. ZMCL’s print business had reported a lower operating loss of Rs 3.79 crore in Q1-17.

    A look at the other numbers reported by ZMCL

    ZMCL reported a lower y-o-y loss of Rs 18.04 crore in the current quarter as compared to a loss of Rs 19.86 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter. The company had reported a profit after tax of Rs 0.09 crore for the immediate trailing quarter. In may be noted that ZMCL has incurred an exceptional loss of Rs 18.88 crore due to sale of land and buildings of a subsidiary in the current quarter.

    The company has controlled its total expenditure in Q2-17, which declined 11 per cent y-o-y to Rs 118.22 crore (93.7 per cent of TIO) as compared to Rs 132.79 crore (104.5 per cent of TIO) and was 2.2 per cent lower q-o-q as compared to Rs 120.83 crore.

    Cost of Raw materials consumed in the current quarter declined 18 per cent y-o-y to Rs 10.32 crore (8.2 per cent of TIO) as compared to Rs 12.59 crore (9.9 per cent of TIO) but was 2.1 per cent more q-o-q than Rs 10.11 crore (7.9 per cent of TIO).

    Employee Benefits Expenses in the current quarter declined 19.8 per cent y-o-y to Rs 30.45 crore (24.1 per cent ofTIO) from Rs 31.92 crore (29.9 per cent of TIO) and was 4.6 per cent lower q-o-q than the Rs 38.60 crore (24.9 per cent of TIO) in the immediate trailing quarter.

    ZMCL’s Marketing, Distribution and Business Promotion Expenses (Marketing expenses) in the current quarter declined 45.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 13.52 crore (10.7 per cent of TIO) from Rs 24.97 crore (19.6 per cent of TIO) and declined 15.8 per cent q-o-q from Rs 16.05 crore (12.5 per cent of TIO).

    Operational costs in Q2-17 increased 11.4 per cent y-o-y to Rs 23.55 crore (18.7 per cent of TIO) from Rs 21.14 crore (16.6 per cent of TIO) and increased 26.1 per cent q-o-q from Rs 18.67 crore (14.6 per cent of TIO).

    Other expense in Q2-17 increased 31.3 per cent y-o-y to Rs 30.31 crore (24 per cent of TIO) from Rs 23.08 crore (18.2 per cent of TIO) but declined 21.3 per cent q-o-q from Rs 38.51 crore (30 per cent of TIO).
