    Mumbai: American sports equipment company Under Armour has partnered with Indian mixed martial arts athlete Ritu Phogat. The brand said it aims to further its mission of engaging, empowering, and inspiring athletes everywhere.

    Phogat, who is popularly known as the Indian Tigress in the MMA fraternity, joins the brand’s exclusive list of athletes that includes Stephen Curry, Tom Brady, Anthony Joshua, Jordan Spieth, Michael Phelps, and Dwayne Johnson among others.

    Sony Pix spends between Rs 7 to 9 crore for Fast & Furious franchise

    MUMBAI: Gear up and get ready for a thrilling ride this month. Standing true to its ‘Stay Amazed’ tagline, Sony Pix will quench the viewers thirst for some high speed action on 19 June with the premiere of action film Furious 7 (FF7) at 1 pm with a repeat at 9 pm. 

    Starring Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Kurt Russell, and Jason Statham, the movie collected approximately Rs 141 crore in India and has grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2015.

    Directed by James Wan and written by Chris Morgan, the movie is a touching tribute to the Paul Walker. Amidst all the noise and the action lies the ferocity of friendship as the entire family re-unites. FF7 features gravity-defying stunts giving rise to a number of exciting and well-choreographed fight sequences with some stunning car chases. It’s a bittersweet feeling for the fans on seeing Paul Walker on screen again.

    The channel has movie deals in place with NBCUniversal International Distribution under which it will now have access to movie titles from Universal Pictures. With this new deal in place, the three mega box office blockbusters of 2015 namely Jurassic World, Furious 7 and Minions will have television premieres on Sony Pix.

    Pushing it further, the channel is extensively marketing the premiere of the movie. Marketing professionals are of the opinion that the channel has already spent between Rs 14 to 15 lakhs promoting FF7. 

    Industry experts have estimated that the deal between the channel and NBCU is between Rs. 7 to 9 crore for the entire Fast & Furious franchise. An industry expert opines, “The deal between Sony Pix and Universal for the entire Fast and Furious franchise cannot be for more than Rs 100 million (Rs 10 crore).” The channel has exclusive one year TV rights for FF7.
    With a pervasive marketing strategy across print, TV and digital, the movie will also be promoted outside the network. It has routed a 360 degree approach which includes a strong outdoor campaign. Apart from this, social media is also buzzing with fans reminiscing about Paul Walker and gearing up for the premier of Furious 7.

    Speaking about this, Sony Pictures Networks India EVP and business head – English cluster Saurabh Yagnik says, “For a blockbuster of this magnitude, we’ve adopted a 360 degree marketing approach which includes a television and print plan, innovative outdoor and an engaging social media campaign. Apart from Furious 7, we have movies like Jurassic World and Minions up next, both having crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide. This is truly a very amazing year for Sony PIX.”

    Targeted at the young affluent mass comprising predominantly of males residing in towns, FF7 is presented by Motorola G4 Plus and is driven by Ford. Sony Pix managed to lasso99acres.com, Idea 4G, Myntra and Gillette as the associate sponsors. The channel has also partnered with Bollywood actor Ali Faizal who played an integral part in the Hollywood blockbuster and had quite a lot of memorable stories to share.

    The movie is the highest grossing film in the Fast and Furious franchise and is Universal Pictures’ highest grossing film of all time in India. It is the second highest grossing Hollywood movie in India after The Jungle Book’s 2016 edition.

    On the content front, the channel has also acquired exclusive rights to the biggest franchises like Hunger Games, Star Wars, Rocky, James Bond, Spider-man, Twilight and Ironman to name a few.

    On 19 June Furious 7 will compete with other movies like the Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth starrer Avengers: Age of Ultron at 1:30 pm and Baby’s Day Out at 9 pm on Star Movies while on the other hand, Movies Now will broadcast another hit from the same franchise, Fast and Furious 6 at 1 pm and 9 pm. HBO will broadcast Final Destination 3 at12:52 pm and Jupiter Ascending at 9 pm. Hotel Transylvania will air at 1 pm while Samuel L. Jackson and Onni Tommila starrer Big Game will be broadcasted at 9 pm on Zee Studio.

    MUMBAI: As part of refreshing their content, Sony Pix will be premiering the Hollywood movie Hercules.

     

    Based on Radical Comics’ Hercules by Steve Moore, the film is a revisionist take on the classic myth. The movie will be premiered on 31 May at 1 pm and 9 pm.

     

    The movie revolves around Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) who has become a mercenary due to the sins from his past. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies.

     

    However, when the compassionate ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail, he must once again become the hero he was and embrace his own myth.

    MUMBAI: The DC Comics adaptation Shazam will see the light of the day earlier than expected. Dwayne Johnson will be seen essaying the role of Black Adam, one of the villains in the movie.

     

    Back in October 2014, Warner Bros set the movie’s release date as 5 April, 2019. However, it’s not really surprising if the release date will be changed because Johnson had already teased about it in an interview at the 87th Academy Awards in February this year.

     

    Produced by Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Michael Uslan, Peter Segal and Michael Ewing, the movie centers on young Billy Batson, who finds himself gifted with the power of the wizard Shazam to fight against the forces of evil. No director has been tapped for the movie yet.

    MUMBAI: After the success of all its prequels, Universal Pictures India is all set to give Fast and Furious 7 a multi-lingual release in Indian theatres on 2 April, 2015.

     

    The movie will release across India in four languages namely English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

     

    Fast and Furious 7 will be more special for the franchise’s fans as this will be the last time they will see the late Paul Walker reprising his role as Brian O’Conner. It may be recalled that Walker died in a car crash last year.

     

    The movie also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham and Indian actor Ali Fazal in a special appearance among others.

     

    The movie is directed by James Wan. The movie will also see Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Lucas Black, who will be joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey, Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell.

     

    Talking about the movie, Wan said, “When you’re making a bigger movie you have much bigger set pieces that require more time and more effort and more people. But I think the final product will surprise a lot of people. It’s the hardest film I’ve ever had to make but it’s also the one I’m proudest of.  I’m really proud of this film.”

    MUMBAI: MGM and Paramount have come together to re-envision the classic Greek tale of the legend of Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson (The Scorpion King, Fast & Furious) as the legendary hero, adapted from Steve Moore’s graphic novel.

    The film boasts a stellar cast that includes Golden Globe Award winner Ian McShane (Deadwood, The Pillars of the Earth), BAFTA Award nominee Rufus Sewell (Eleventh Hour), BAFTA Award winner Joseph Fiennes (American Horror Story: Asylum), Emmy Award nominee Peter Mullan (Top of the Lake) and Golden Globe Award winner John Hurt (Midnight Express) and is directed by Brett Rattner (Rush Hour series).

    Ratner’s film follows the story of the warrior who, in the wake of his legendary twelve labours, becomes a mercenary. When the King of Thrace and his daughter seek him out for help to defeat a tyrannical warlord, his life is tested in a way it never has been before. Based on the graphic novel series Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steven Moore and Admira Wijaya.

    The Rock took to Instagram to talk about the grueling preparations he undertook to get into the titular role for Hercules, which hits the big screen this summer.

    “I trained and worked harder than ever for eight months for this role. Lived alone and locked myself away (like a moody 260-lb. monk) in Budapest for six months while filming.” He said on his Instagram page, “Goal was to completely transform into this character. Disappear in the role. Press journalist asked me today, with the mental & physical toll the role had on me, would I do it again? Not only would I do it again… I’d do it twice!”
