Tata Sky’s new ad promotes aggressively priced Thalaiva pack

Mumbai: Content distribution platform and pay-TV platform Tata Sky has launched a new campaign for potential customers in Tamil Nadu.

The narrative of the campaign “Vera Level” communicates the elevated entertainment options that are offered by a Tata Sky connection – highlighting the regional family packs available along with a one-touch remote for the price-sensitive segment. This includes the Thalaiva pack that “combines the best of Tamil channels, drama, film, kids, news and sports channels curated for the benefit of the entire family,” said the company in a statement.

Conceptualised by Ogilvy India, the communication plan for the campaign is spread across print, TV, OOH and designed to resonate with metro and non-metro audiences.

“Regional audience has a very strong connect with their TV sets and what they watch in it. Keeping this in mind, Tata Sky has always been at the forefront to make the TV viewing experience worthwhile and engaging,” said Tata Sky, chief communications officer, Anurag Kumar. “Our new campaign for Tamil Nadu beautifully highlights the distinct benefits of a Tata Sky connection and connects with the audiences through their most loved regional catchphrases – ‘Vera Level’ which means taking anything to a superior entertaining level, just like a Tata Sky connection does with its varied offerings and personalised bouquets.”

Chrome releases HD’s India penetration report

MUMBAI: Chrome Data Analytics and Media has released ‘Now Playing: HD’, a report around the rise and penetration of high-definition television in the Indian broadcast industry.

The report covers key aspects of the evolution of HD TV, which primarily gives broadcasters and advertisers a deeper insight into potential target markets. Not just this, the report captures nuances of an HD TV consumer that industry players can make the most of, for maximizing their consumer base.

Amongst a range of observations and findings, the report has come up with a list of factors that drive a consumer into purchasing high definition packs and set top boxes. During the research, it was found that DTH & Digital Operators push attractive offers while selling the SD or HD DTH boxes including foregoing installation costs that greatly encourage consumers to opt for HD TV viewing. On the other hand, when the consumer upgrades from SD to HD, he is required to pay for installation charges.

It was further found that on events of significance (eg: sports tournaments), HD boxes were charged to fulfil high quality viewership needs which means HD pack top ups were primarily event led.

Commenting on the changing trends in TV viewership, Chrome DM MD Pankaj Krishna said “HD is here to stay but understanding consumer behaviour, which is ever evolving, is the key to capture maximum markets. Also, with the launch of Reliance Jio, OTT HD consumption will be on a steep rise and we see this complimenting the HD consumption growth on television.”

The 60-page long report is divided into four sections, where the first part talks about the HD penetration in India. The second and third sections talk about factors affecting consumer choice of DTH Player and the last one talks about industry projections, making the report a wholesome approach towards understanding the HD penetration in the broadcast industry.

Owing to the rise of HD viewership in India, the overall HD penetration for All India metro cities stands at 1,766,709, whereas for tier II cities, the penetration is at 1,338,551.

  • Tata Sky looks to up VAS, VOD revenue; partners Suniel Shetty for fitness service

Tata Sky looks to up VAS, VOD revenue; partners Suniel Shetty for fitness service

MUMBAI: Eyeing a larger share of revenue from the Value Added Service (VAS) and VOD (Video on Demand) pie, direct-to-home (DTH) operator Tata Sky has partnered with Suniel Shetty and Adarsh Gupta’s lifestyle and health initiative Brilliant Living TV to launch a fitness-based interactive service – ‘Actve Fitness.’

The new service will allow subscribers to get access to fitness trainers and wellness experts 24×7 at the cost of Rs 59 per month.

The DTH operator recently added ‘Actve Fitness’ to their bouquet of VAS. While on-air fitness programs have been tried many times on TV, this is the first time a DTH player in India has introduced an on demand fitness solution for its customers.

The new service was unveiled by Salman Khan, who also explained the advantages of Actve Fitness from a fitness enthusiast’s perspective.

Tata Sky chief commercial officer Pallavi Puri says, “In line with our attempt to keep innovating the VAS section, we are constantly researching. Our research showed that our users are very health conscious. They want to look fit and live a healthy lifestyle. But not everyone has the access to gyms, fitness equipments or proper trainers. Even if they have access to such facilities, availability of convenient time becomes an issue for many who lead a busy life. I would say this service is a smarter and personalised way to take control of one’s health from the comfort of your homes.”

Effective 5 October, Tata Sky subscribers will be given a ‘missed call number’ that will lead them to activate this new service. Interested users can also send SMS requests, or  log in to the DTH player’s website, or subscribe to the service through their television sets. Puri expects the service to appeal to their customer base from all demographies.

Apart from creating a buzz by inviting Khan for the launch, Tata Sky has also put in place a marketing strategy for the new service. “We are targeting communication towards our customers through our landing channel No 100, which will showcase advertisements informing viewers about the new service. We are also looking digital promos, and tele-calling as ways to promote the service among our customers,” explains Puri.

Puri further adds that having Brilliant Living TV as a partner broadened their scope and quality of the content they can offer through the service. “Brilliant Living TV is delighted to be associated with Tata Sky to bring Actve Fitness to Indian homes. Our focus has been on creating passion and excitement for fitness amongst all Indians by guiding them through fitness exercises such as work-out videos, yoga and meditation. Now for the first time these services will be available to viewers at home through a DTH platform,” said Brilliant Living TV founder Adarsh Gupta.

Available in both Hindi and English, the content for the service has been curated by Brilliant Living TV, with Suniel Shetty being an active part of it. “With the inception of Brilliant Living TV, we could gather industry experts under one roof and with the help of Tata Sky Actve Fitness we are able to reach out to the mass. Continuing my effort, I am looking forward to a healthy India in the near future,” says Shetty.

Shetty has roped in celebrity fitness trainers like Yasmin Karachiwala, Kaizzad Capadia, Abbas Ali and Grand Master Shifuji amongst others for Actve Fitness. Each of them have shared workout and yoga sessions, self-defence and celebrity fitness tips that anyone can follow at home, without the need of any professional equipment. The interactive service also lets one set a Weight Tracker and check the Calorie Counter for the kind of food they consume.

Each day of the week will focus on a different body part for exercising, with Monday dedicated to full body workout. Apart from that, the service also offers half hour modules for the subscribers, who can choose from a category of wellness regimes to customise according to their needs.

Specials include different schools of yoga such as Ashtang yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha yoga; meditation, work outs like a kickboxing, fusion martial arts, and more. They also offer women’s special fitness trainings that cover self-defence, dance workout and event pre-natal yoga.

  • Tata Sky launches ‘TV is Good’ campaign for Kids!

Tata Sky launches ‘TV is Good’ campaign for Kids!

MUMBAI: Tata Sky, the leading DTH player in the country, launched its latest ad campaign ‘Ab Bachchey Seekhein TV se’ (Kids learn with television). The ad is set out to convey the fact that while television is a great entertainment medium, it is equally a good learning aid, helping children gain beyond bookish knowledge.

The campaign is targeted primarily at the parents with children between ages 6 to 12 years, trying to break the myth most Indian parents have on ‘television is only mindless viewing for kids’. Hence one of the three ad films features a young boy stating an interesting fact on how to find out if the eggs are old or new. Similarly the other two ads have two kinder garden aged girls quizzing the audience on facts about ‘rhyming words to orange’ or ‘how to escape a leopard’ that catch you by surprise and leaves you with a smile. All the three ad films deliver the overarching message – Television is good!

Vikram Mehra, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Sky said, “Kids today are smart, not just studious. Give them the right content in an interesting package and see them absorb the knowledge at lightning speed. Over the last few years, Tata Sky’s pioneering efforts in ‘education through television’ with interactive (Actve) services and a bouquet of infotainment channels have been very well received by subscribers, specifically kids. With this campaign we wish to take the message to markets across the country on how fruitful learning through television can be.”

Elaborating on the ad campaign, Abhijit Avasthi, National Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather, “If you ask any parent they would say that television and education are like chalk and cheese, rather most will insist that television gets in the way of education. But what we found out in research was quite the contrary. Parents are starting to recognize that there is enough wholesome content on television to supplement their kid’s academic learning, more so in smaller cities where there are very few avenues to give kids holistic education, television plays a role to provide that. Our campaign, ‘Kitna kuch seekh saktein hai bacche TV se’ features kids flaunting the interesting pieces of knowledge that they have learnt from the 13 learning channels that Tata Sky has to offer. Actually we ourselves learnt so much while shortlisting these knowledge facts for the campaign. That discovery only fueled our conviction that kids can learn so much from TV.”
