    IndiaCast to launch Colors on Africa’s DStv in October

    MUMBAI: IndiaCast is all set to launch Viacom18’s Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Colors in Africa through its partnership with MultiChoice. 

     

    Colors, which is present in more than 135 countries, will be available to DStv Indian customers in South Africa from 15 October, 2015. The channel will reach out to Indian viewers in 13 countries including South Africa, Bostwana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zanzibar.

     

    Colors CEO Raj Nayak said, “In the seven years since it first launched, Colors has been a game changer in the television industry with path-breaking content that has appealed to viewer sensibilities. As the channel launches on DStv in Africa, the channel’s global penetration in more than 135 markets, with shows syndicated in over 100 markets, further reinforces our belief in our offerings and ability to match viewing preferences of our audiences.”

    Zee World posts impressive numbers in first month

    Zee World, the first English General Entertainment channel (GEC) from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) targeted specifically for African viewers has posted its first week of ratings after being on air for 30 days.

     

     

    As per the ratings, Zee World ranked in the top 10 channels on the DStv platform within the English GEC space.

     

    Zee World went live on DStv channel 166 on 3 February, 2015. The channel, fully dubbed in English, showcases Bollywood movies, series, reality and variety shows.

    “Zee World delivered a weekly GRP of 31, which is an impressive figure for a new channel on a pay platform. Almost all the original telecast of programmes on Zee World has appeared within the top 50 programme list, which is a great success for us. We are pleased with the results and can only grow from strength to strength,” says Zee TV South Africa CEO Harish Goyal.

     

    Zee World’s series, Laali was positioned 17th in the top performing programmes within all the English GEC programmes having more than 30 sec average time spent per viewer; almost double than the leading series on other channels.

     

    The channel is available in Sub Saharan Africa, channel 166 on DStv Premium, Extra, Compact and Family pack in South Africa and from the Access pack above within the rest of Africa. It is also available on the Multichoice Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), GO TV platform on channel 25.

    The History Channel to launch ‘Crime & Investigation Network’ in Sub-Saharan Africa

    MUMBAI: The History Channel UK, a joint venture between A&E Television Networks (AETN) and British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyb), has announced the launch of Crime & Investigation Network in Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, with MultiChoice Africa on 26 February.

    Crime & Investigation Network will be carried on DStv, and will be broadcast on channel 69, with transmission in English. Programming, marketing and operations will be managed by The History Channel UK, informs an official release.

    Real crime, real people, real drama – Crime & Investigation Network promises to open the door to crime labs, police archives and courtrooms, providing a behind-the-scenes look at criminal investigations, probing unexplained mysteries and examining the lives of infamous murderers and villains. While police work to crack some of the world’s most fascinating crimes, viewers witness first-hand as law enforcement agencies utilize old fashioned detective techniques and the latest forensic investigation tools to solve cases – both new and cold.

    Crime & Investigation Network will feature acclaimed investigative series, documentaries and specials from AETN, as well as locally acquired and produced programming, and will be available to over 1.4 million subscribers in 55 countries, adds the release.

    Crime & Investigation Network marks the second channel launched by The History Channel UK and AETN with MultiChoice. The History Channel launched in Sub-Saharan Africa in December 2003.
