NEW DELHI: An amount of Rs 3190 million has been provided in the 10th Plan for Doordarshan’s modernization and digitalization of various regional offices and transmission facilities in the country.
Replying to a question by Sunder Lal Tiwari and Satyavrat Chaturvedi in the Lok Sabha today, information and broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Doordarshan Kendras at Bhopal, Gwalior and Indore in Madhya Pradesh are proposed to be digitalised and modernised in phases during the 10th Plan period.
Last week, Prasad had informed Parliament that the government is considering a proposal to start an exclusive channel for the welfare of the farmers.
Replying to a question by A Venkatesh Naik in Lok Sabha today, the minister said that the details are being worked out in consultation with Department of Agriculture and it is too early to give a timeframe for it now.

CNN announces scholarships for young Indian journos
NEW DELHI: CNN today announced the launch of an India-specific CNN Young Journalist Award to recognise quality journalism among young media professionals in the age group of 22 to 26 years from the electronic, print and online media.
The prizewinner will win a 14-day paid trip to Atlanta, CNN’s headquarters, with the runners up spending a similar period at the CNN’s Delhi bureau. The last date for sending in entries is 24 October.
“Indian media is witnessing great revolution and the award is a salute to young professionals who are working in this highly challenging world,” CNN’s Delhi bureau chief Satinder Bindra said today at a press conference to announce the award.
The panel of jury includes Doordarshan’s DG S Y Quraishi, School of Convergence director Prannonjoy Guha Thakurta, Indian Institute of Mass Communication director B P Sanjay and Infotainment TV president Karan Thapar.
