Jiostar sparks insights with new advertising series

MUMBAI: Advertising just got a front-row seat. Jiostar Entertainment has launched The Collective, a new series designed to convene India’s leading marketing voices to explore the future of advertising in entertainment.

    https://ads.jiostar.com/jiohotstarctvplaybook/thecollective/

The premiere episode featured a star-studded panel, including Jahid Ahmed (HDFC Bank), Sachin Vashishtha (Paisabazaar), Varun Mundra (Motilal Oswal), Sajit Gopal (Domino’s) and Jiteen Aggarwal (Hettich India), in conversation with Jai Lala of Zenith India.

Discussions ranged from the rise of connected TVs as India’s central household screen and the measurability of CTV campaigns, to OTT’s expanding role in digital adoption and co-viewing patterns. The session also explored how brand-safe OTT environments deliver enhanced value for advertisers.

The Collective will continue as an ongoing series, bringing fresh conversations with brand leaders, marketers and industry experts to decode the fast-evolving advertising and entertainment landscape in India.

  • Mission Sponsor Possible as Special Ops 2 locks in 14 brand partners

Mission Sponsor Possible as Special Ops 2 locks in 14 brand partners

MUMBAI: Espionage has never looked so marketable JioHotstar’s Special Ops 2 is back, and it’s bringing more than just bullets and secrets to the screen this 18 July. It’s bringing brands. Fourteen of them. Special Ops 2, the latest instalment of the hit thriller franchise, is already making headlines before its premiere not just for its high-stakes cyber warfare plot, but for its impressive brand line-up. With 14 marquee sponsors on board, the show has set a new benchmark in branded entertainment for scripted Indian OTT content.

From automobiles to FMCG, and personal care to mutual funds, Special Ops 2 has attracted a cross-sectoral advertiser base that includes Hyundai, Jaquar & Co, Directors Elaichi, Asian Paints, UTI Mutual Fund, Envy, Philips, Lux Industries, Domino’s, JK Cement, Oppo, Swiggy, Toothsi, and Sony Bravia. This marks the highest-ever sponsor count for a title under the Specials banner on JioHotstar.

“With Special Ops, we’ve built an iconic IP that delivers both cultural impact and business value,” said JioHotstar head of revenue entertainment & international Ajit Varghese. “This kind of brand response speaks to the power of premium storytelling and the platform’s ability to deliver engaged, meaningful audiences at scale.”

Returning to the screen is Kay Kay Menon as Himmat Singh, the stoic intelligence officer at the centre of the action. But this time, he’s stepping into a more shadowy world of cyber espionage, system sabotage, and faceless digital enemies, a timely theme in an age of digital vulnerability.

The rise in sponsorships also underscores how advertisers are shifting focus towards long-form, high-quality original series as strategic storytelling platforms. JioHotstar’s previous original, Criminal Justice Season 4, similarly drew widespread brand attention, signalling a growing trend in content-backed advertising integrations.

Special Ops 2 premieres on 18 July exclusively on JioHotstar, and if the buzz (and brand budget) is anything to go by, this mission’s already a success before its first intel drop.

  • Jubilant FoodWorks signs MoU with Coca-Cola India for its sparkling beverages

Jubilant FoodWorks signs MoU with Coca-Cola India for its sparkling beverages

MUMBAI: Just a couple of  weeks after the Jubilant Bhartia group said that it would be taking a 40 per cent stake in Hindustan Coca-Cola Holdings (the parent company of the largest Coca-Cola bottler in India),  it announced that its offshoot Jubilant Foodworks Ltd (JFL)  has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Coca-Cola India to procure its  sparkling beverages for its fast-food outlets.

JFL  operates five brands – three of them are under master franchise  agreements from three global players —Domino’s, Popeyes, and Dunkin’—and two are proprietary brands Hong’s Kitchen, an Indo-Chinese QSR  brand in India and a café brand Coffy in Turkey. The group has 3,130 outlets in six markets including India, Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan and Georgia with India accounting for 2,199 of them as of 30 September.

Until now, Coke rival PepsiCo was the beverage partner of Domino’s in India following  an agreement in 2018. As part of that, PepsiCo’s  carbonated beverages such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7Up, and Mirinda along with Lipton Ice Tea are served to customers. India is the largest market outside of the US for Dominos.

The Coca-Cola Co India’s brands include Coca-Cola, Thums Up, Sprite, Minute Maid, Maaza, SmartWater, Kinley, Limca, and Fanta.

JFL made a regulatory filing with the Bombay stock exchange informing it of the MoU on 26 December. It further stated that “MoU between Coca-Cola India and JFL contains the principal terms and conditions for purchase of a portfolio of sparkling beverage products and certain other products from The Coca-Cola Co authorised bottlers and for conducting marketing activities (which will be undertaken in the usual/ordinary course) for the said products, as defined in the MoU in relation to various brands of JFL (franchised/owned brands) and products purchased by JFL from The Coca-Cola Co authorised bottlers. A master agreement will be executed between the parties based on the principal terms and conditions mentioned in the MoU on 1 April 2025.  After execution of the master agreement, The Coca-Cola Company authorized bottlers will become suppliers of sparkling beverages and other products as set out in the MoU to JFL. The arrangement will help JFL enhance its consumer offerings.”

Brands engage with consumers with WFH creatives

MUMBAI: The world around us has undergone a paradigm shift in the last year. The little joys that we took for granted – be it eating out at our favorite restaurant with family or catching a movie in the theatre over the weekend, or simply hanging out with friends after work – all activities have become wishful nostalgia. Keeping in mind these inescapable realities of the new normal, brands have come up with creatives to cheer flagging spirits with a dash of humor and empathy. But, at the same time, encouraging people to stay at home and stay safe. Here are a few ideations that we felt measured up to the task at hand.

Pepsico’s Wafer Brand Lays released a new commercial with a short, crispy humorous take on WFH, while pushing itself as the best snack for a quick five-minute break from work.

Fevicol : The Pidilite Industries-owned adhesives brand shared a picture of a crowded market with people, both with and without masks swarming the street on Instagram. Fevicol took a tongue-in-cheek swipe on the picture using its own campaign of ‘FEVICOL KA JOD, MAJBOOT JOD’ with the words: “This Is Not A Fevicol Ad, Now Is Not A Good Time To Stick Together” adding “Kyunki chehre par mask aur do gaz ki doori, abhi bhi hai bohot zaroori.” (Because a mask on the face and six feet distancing is still very important)

How brands are saying goodbye to 2020

NEW DELHI: 2020 is probably the only year that the whole world was dying to bid adieu too. Inundated with crises from all sides on top of a global pandemic, when many a plan was cancelled and existence became a little lonelier for almost everyone, the year nonetheless made us realise the value of little joys in life. One of which was dear internet! Filled with content for our every mood, it kept us entertained via a number of stories, creatives, memes, and information. The brands, as usual, made it an interesting place to be at. And now as the year is ending, here’s how some brands are again displaying their quirky sides to say bye-bye!
