    Nissan and Sony Pictures team up for ‘Gran Turismo’ movie campaign in India

    Mumbai: Gran Turismo, the most popular racing video games in the world released under the Sony Play station banner since 1997. Sony Pictures Entertainment India in collaboration with Nissan Motors, have joined hands for a unique marketing partnership for ‘Gran Turismo’ a film highly awaited by movie enthusiasts and gamers. The film, which premieres in India on 25 August 2023, showcases the remarkable true story of a group of underdogs who dared to challenge the elite world of motorsports, forever changing the landscape of racing.

    In 2008, Nissan introduced the ground-breaking GT Academy, a gamer-to-racer competition that shattered conventions by transforming video game racers into real-world racing champions. Teaming up with Sony PlayStation, this audacious partnership defied expectations and paved the way for aspiring talents worldwide to live out their dreams on the track.

    MUMBAI: Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, the highest grossing female-led superhero film featuring Academy award-winning actress Brie Larson premieres this Sunday 8th March on Star Movies 1 PM and 9 PM. Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the MCU that trails the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe`s most powerful heroes.

    The film boasts an ensemble cast of Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma chan, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, and Clark Gregg. The film is a unique superhero film mainly due to its setting, characters and action. Major character developments will be seen in the film including Nick fury losing his eye in an unfortunate accident. This film will show you why Thanos needs to be terrified as he will be facing the ferocious and marvelous Captain Marvel in the next Film installment of the MCU – Avengers: Endgame.

    Set in the 90’s, the film follows the story of Carol Danvers, Half human half kree warrior hero who is trying to end the expansion of Skrull rule on the galaxy along with Yon Rogg, her mentor and commander. Though she has extremely potent abilities, she is yet to master them. During a mission, she gets separated from her team and gets stranded on Earth, there she meets a young Nick Fury and teams up with him to prevent a catastrophe.

    When Brie Larson was asked what are her thoughts on the character, she stated “I mean, I think she has an ego, but in a healthy way. She doesn’t have an unrealistic expectation of herself. She just owns that she’s really good and really skilled, which feels good to play. She also has an incredible sense of humor and makes fun of herself, makes fun of other people, has no issue if someone makes fun of her.”

The Abbies’ invasion, a leap forward in time – one that suggests that everything has only gotten worse, has brought viewers back to the small town of Wayward Pines with a storyline better and bolder than before!

    Rightfully, as the second season continued to get better and scarier as weeks flew by, the assemblage of stars, two time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Jason Patric (Speed, My Sister’s Keeper) and BAFTA nominated Nimrat Kaur ( Airlift, Lunch Box) exhibited their characters to the tee keeping audiences hooked to the series.

    On choosing to star in Wayward Pines as the main cast member of a television series for the first time ever, Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou said, “I think TV offers you a platform in which you can – when you’re doing a film, you’re doing that film, and it’s that theme that you’re exploring in the film. But when you’re doing TV, you explore so many different themes.” He also spoke about the chemistry between the stars on the set, “At the end of the day when we finish, we wrap for the day. And we all interact with each other.”

    The penultimate episode showed the revival of the Abbies’ leader – Margaret and the finale episode ‘Bedtime Story’ is all set to have the Abbies’ descend upon the town of Wayward Pines. To add to the misery the town’s leader Jason is dead, a highly intensified war between the human race and the Abbies is on the cards and everyone who is human is trying to save their lives. But there aren’t enough cryo-chambers, the only means of saving them, to contain them all and Theo is faced with a decision that could seal the fate of humanity. Will Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric), Theo’s wife Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) and C.J. Mitchum (Djimon Hounsou) step up their game and finally find a way to save town?

The show in its first season managed to serenade sci-fi fans with impeccable direction by M Night Shyamalan and a stellar star cast that included Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Matt Dillon who starred in wildly successful ventures like There’s Something About Mary (1998), Crash (2004), Factotum (2005), You, Me and Dupree (2006), Nothing but the Truth (2008).

    The second season haswith stars like two time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Jason Patric (Speed,My Sister’s Keeper) and  BAFTA nominated Nimrat Kaur ( Airlift, Lunch Box) joining the ranks. The upcoming season is set to be a glitzy affair.

    Wayward Pines season one traced the adventures of Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a U.S. Secret Service agent, who was investigating the mystery of the disappearance of his two colleagues. As his search leads him to the quaint little town of Wayward Pines, he awakens from a car accident only to find out that one of his colleagues is dead, the other, his former beau Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) is living a rustic life in the town and all is not as it seems in the mysterious town. The town has sinister secrets and there seems to be something nefarious brewing just under the surface.

    While the first season ended at crossroads, with a civil war at the horizon where do the new characters fit in? It is well-known that the town of Wayward Pines exists in a post-apocalyptic future 2000 years from now, it is populated by folks who have been kept in suspended animation all that time and thawed out as required. So when the brilliant but eccentric doctor Theo Yedlin (Jason Patrick) wakes up groggily thinking it was only the previous night that his marriage with wife Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) was falling apart at a holiday resort in Hawaii, he is quick to realize that something is rotten in Wayward Pines. As Yedlin replaces the town’s recently deceased physician, he begins navigating his baffling new surroundings.

    Meanwhile, Rebecca Yedlin (Nimrat Kaur), Theo’s wife and a former architect has already begun her work as the town’s beautician in the three years she’s been awake before her husband’s emergence.

    Speaking of his role, Jason Patric said, “I did not watch the previous season because one of the things about my character, Theo Yedlin, who is a surgeon, is that he has been dropped right in the middle of it all so his reactions need to be as pure as possible.I don’t have any definitive ideas about who he is or where he’s going, but I think that was one of the interesting things about choosing to do this project.”

    Nimrat Kaur also spoke about her role on the show, “I play the role of Rebecca, an architect who has designed the town of Wayward Pines. I am not one of the characters who wakes up unaware of what the place is like. Rebecca is someone who has a very complicated and intriguing journey on the show; she wakes up in Wayward Pines and copes up with her life there and struggles with her relationship with her husband while trying to find the perfect balance between everything.”

    With Theo, Rebecca and a historian (DjimonHounsou) having just come out of the slumber and entered the fold, how do their characters fit in and where does their loyalty lie? Will their entry have a domino effect on the events unfurling in the show? 

    The series has been nominated for the prestigious Saturn Awards in numerous categories and holds a rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

    MUMBAI: Horror-thriller flick, The Vatican Tapes is all set to hit theaters across India on 31 July, 2015. The film is being released in India by Multivision Multimedia. The movie features Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond fame), Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible 2 and American Hustle) and Michael Pena (Fury, American Hustle). Kathleen Robertson, established television actress in the US will be seen as the leading lady in Vatican Tapes.

     

    The Vatican Tapes is about the ultimate battle between good and evil- God versus Satan. When a priest (Michael Pe?a) is called upon to exorcize a powerful satanic force he meets with an evil much more powerful than ever imagined. He enters a battle not only for a woman’s soul, but also the fate of the world. The film is an edge of the seat thriller that promises chill down the spine. 

     

    Hollywood horror films have left an imprint on the Indian box office for a very long time. The genre has matured and evolved over time. This year, two of the biggest horror films from Hollywood that made it to Indian screens were Insidious: Chapter 3, currently running to full houses and Poltergeist that grossed over $2 million in the first three days of release in India.

     

    Some other films such as Conjuring and Anabella have also fared extremely well in India, keeping up to its international success. Alongside action and franchise driven cinema, horror is the third strongest contender from Hollywood in India.

     

    Multivision Multimedia distribution head Sunil Udhani said, “Horror has always been a favourite among Indian audiences. While the trend is on the upswing here in Bollywood, the market for movies like Vatican Tapes is ever expanding. We have already seen a couple of success stories from the genre with this year. Horror is a unique genre in Hollywood that is not star dependent on stars; on top of that Vatican Tapes boasts of an illustrious star cast such as Djimon Hounsou and Dougray Scott. We are sure The Vatican Tapes will continue in the tradition of box office success.”

    Fast 7 adds more muscle to its wheels with Djimon Hounsou

    UMBAI: Djimon Hounsou is adding his muscle to Universal’s Fast & Furious 7, the studio has announced. He’ll join franchise veterans Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese, along with Kurt Russell and new baddie Jason Statham. The sequel helmed by James Wan is due to hit theaters 11 July. Moritz and Diesel return as producers.

    No plot details have been unveiled yet, except that the film will return to Los Angeles after the previous six films were set in other locations. Co-president of production Jeff Kirschenbaum and creative executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project. This May’s Fast & Furious 6 was the highest-grossing pic in the series, with $788 million worldwide.

    Hounsou can be seen next in Fox Searchlight’s Baggage Claim and follows that up with a busy 2014 that includes Legendary’s Seventh Son, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and How to Train Your Dragon 2.
