    Nick continues to reign over kids genre with ‘Motu Patlu:’ BARC week 2

    MUMBAI: The second week of 2016 sees Viacom 18’s kids channel Nick staying strong in its position at the top as per Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India’s all India (U+R) data in NCCS All 4-14 Individuals category.

     

    Nick, with 87947 (000s sums) ratings, was followed by Cartoon Network with 69169 (000s sums) at the second spot. On the other hand, Pogo TV trailed closely behind with 65903 (000s sums).

     

    Hungama took the fourth spot with viewership rating of 53475 (000s sums), while Disney Channel stood at the fifth position in the genre with a rating of 41479 (000s sums).

     

    When it comes to top five programs in the kids genre, Nick’s Motu Patlu Deep Sea Adventure stole the show with ratings of 670 (000s sums) and was closely followed byMotu Patlu In Carnival Island – Part 1 with 617 (000s sums) ratings. 

     

    Pogo TV’s Bang Bang With Bheem took the third spot with a slightly lower rating of 594 (000s sums), while the same channel’s Chhota Bheem: Master of Shaolin followed in the fourth spot with 551 (000s sums) ratings.

     

    Last but not the least on the top five programs’ list was Nick’s latest original show Shivawith ratings of 545 (000 sums). It is to be noted that the top program ranking is based on average rating across all airings in the week, including original telecasts and repeats.

    MUMBAI: Walt Disney Studios has postponed the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII from 26 May, 2017 to 15 December of the same year.

     

    With Star Wars: Episode VIII jumping to December, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will set sail on 26 May, 2017, from its previously scheduled 7 July, 2017, berth.

     

    The move follows the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December. In the popular holiday moviegoing corridor, it smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861 million and the third biggest global release ever with $1.887 billion.

     

    Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in pre-production and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlinwill executive produce.

     

    In Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow with Geoffrey Rush back on board as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom resurfacing as Will Turner, and a terrifying new adversary, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, in the mix. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joachim R?nning and Espen Sandberg, the film is currently in post-production.

    Disney names Martha Welborne as SVP – real estate & global facilities

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company has appointed Martha Welborne as senior vice president – real estate & global facilities.

     

    She will report to Walt Disney Company senior executive vice president and CFO Christine M. McCarthy.

     

    In this role, Welborne will drive the company’s overall real estate strategy while overseeing all real estate development, design, construction, asset management, portfolio management, and facilities support and services.

     

    “Welborne’s proven track record of bringing multiple stakeholders together on large scale projects makes her especially well-suited to her new role at Disney. Her experience positions her perfectly to lead our real estate strategy, working with various Disney businesses and external providers to deliver best-in-class service,” said McCarthy.

     

    Welborne most recently served as chief planning officer for countywide planning for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Before joining the MTA, she was managing director of the Grand Avenue Committee.

    Disney CEO Robert Iger’s pay falls 3.4% to $44.9 million in 2015

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Robert Iger’s reported compensation drop 3.4 per cent to $44.9 million for the fiscal year ending October 2015, as his cash bonus depleted by $410,000 and the value of a pension declined due to an accounting change.

     

    Iger’s base salary of $2.5 million was unchanged from 2014, when his overall compensation came in at $46.5 million. That  was an increase as compared to his 2013 package of $34.3 million. He also earned $22.3 million in non-equity incentives, $8.9 million in stock awards and $8.4 million in option awards.

     

    As per a proxy filed by Disney, Iger’s bonus fell to $22.3 million in the fiscal year that ended on 29 Sept ember, 2015. The biggest factor was a change in a discount rate applied to his pension, which resulted in an almost 50 per cent drop in its reported value, to $1.42 million.

     

    Disney, which has seen a strong box office in 2015, is currently basking in the glory of record worldwide collections from the recently released Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

    ‘Star Wars’ propels Disney’s 2015 global box office to $5 billion

    MUMBAI: With final numbers now in, Star Wars: The Force Awakens rose above estimates to post an all-time industry-high $248 million in North America plus $281 million internationally for an all-time record global debut of $529 million since opening day-and-date 16 December. This excludes any grosses from China, where the film opens 9 January, as well as Greece and India, where it opens this week.

     

    Domestically, Disney now holds four of the top five debuts of all time. In addition to posting the biggest Thursday preview gross ($57 million) and the biggest Friday and single-day ever ($119.1 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens set a new Sunday record of $60.5 million. Internationally, it was the biggest opening weekend ever in numerous territories including the U.K. (four-day), Australia, Russia, and Germany.

     

    Yesterday, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said of the historic debut, “Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind Star Wars experience, and director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves.     Company Box Office Milestones Reached:

     

    The galactic debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has pushed The Walt Disney Studios to its highest year on record. Today, Disney will cross the $5 billion mark in global box office in a calendar year for the first time ever, surpassing the previous full-year record of $4.73 billion set in 2013. The studio has also reached new highs domestically with $1.851 billion and internationally with $3.134 billion through 20 December. The previous best for each was also set in 2013 with $1.719 billion domestic and $3.013 billion international.

     

    These 2015 milestones were reached with outstanding performances from films across Disney’s brands, including Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron ($459 million domestic; $946 million int’l; $1.4 billion global), Disney• Pixar’sInside Out ($356.4 million domestic; $499 million int’l; $855.4 million global), Disney’s Cinderella ($201.1 million domestic; $341.4 million int’l; $542.5 million global), Marvel’s Ant-Man ($180.1 million domestic; $339 million int’l; $519.1 million global), as well as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2014 release Big Hero 6 ($305 million globally during the 2015 calendar year).

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company has inked a multi-year licensing deal with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to bring its digital subscription service DisneyLife to China via Alibaba’s online shopping site Tmall.

     

    The Mickey Mouse-shaped device is priced at $125 for a one-year subscription and requires an Internet connection.

     

    DisneyLife will provide Alibaba customers in China with an all-encompassing and immersive family friendly digital experience. The content will include Disney and Pixar’s movies, animation series, games, e-books, songs, travel services and Disney theme parks and resorts information.

     

    Subscribers can access Disney merchandise and can also obtain information about, and plan a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland as well as Shanghai Disney Resort when it opens in 2016. In addition to the DisneyLife experience, shoppers can access other Alibaba products and services.

    Disney & CanalSat ink exclusive Disney Channel deal for France

    MUMBAI: The Walt Disney Company and Vivendi’s Canal+ Group have inked a deal through which the multi-channel French satellite-cable-IPTV operator CanalSat will now become the exclusive distributor of Disney channels in France.

     

    CanalSat will have exclusive carriage rights in France for Disney Junior, Disney XD and Disney Channel as well as the new premium service Disney Cinema, Disney catch-up services and new educational on-demand service Disney English.

     

    According to Canal+, the deal marks a new stage in its partnership with Disney. The two first collaborated in 1997. The new agreement will strengthen its position in family viewing, with exclusive carriage of four channels that together represent a 42 per cent share of the 4-14 audience.

     

    While the Disney English on-demand service will be included in Canalsat’s Panorama package, Disney Cinema will be included in the Grand Panorama package.

    Isobar names Maciek Nowicki as chief creative officer for South East Asia & India

    MUMBAI: Isobar has promoted Maciek Nowicki to chief creative officer of Isobar South East Asia & India, a newly created role, overseeing 13 Isobar locations across nine countries.

     

    Nowicki will relocate from Isobar Poland and will report to Isobar APAC MD Sven Huberts.

     

    Nowicki will be responsible for enhancing and integrating the creative teams, increasing the agency creative output and acting as the creative lead on multi-market pitches. Bolstering the creative leadership line-up is a critical step in strengthening Isobar’s Brand Commerce offering and driving the business forward across the region. Nowicki also joins Isobar’s Global Creative Excellence Council, chaired by Isobar EMEA chief creative officer Nick Bailey.

     

    Huberts said, “Maciek is one of those people who has the dexterity, stamina and drive to create a high performance creative culture. He understands how brands are currently being built for todays convergent world.     Prior to his promotion, Nowicki was managing creative director for the 300+ strong team at Isobar Poland, looking after brands including P&G, GM, Disney and Arla Foods. In addition, he oversaw the creative output across multiple Dentsu Aegis Network agencies in Poland.

     

    During his tenure, Isobar Poland entered the elite club of the best integrated agencies in the country, winning over 60 major international, regional and domestic awards and merits.

     

    Yuri Drabent has been promoted to Isobar Poland creative director.

     

    Nowicki was previously a creative director in Procter & Gamble Poland, and prior to that he worked for Grey Group, JWT, Havas, McCann and spent a year in Moscow, working as Creative Director for FCB.
