    Surbhi Nagpal heads to Wion and Zee Business as national head sales

    MUMBAI: She’s moving out of Outbrain and into Zee Media. Sales hotshot Surbhi Nagpal will be leading national sales for Wion and Zee Business.. Based in Noida, Nagpal will spearhead efforts to drive revenue generation, optimise sales operations, and enhance the profitability of both the channels.

    Surbhi has more than 20 years of work experience in both and linear and digital sales, having worked at companies such as  NDTV India, Outbrain, Discovery Communications India, and Disney+ Hotstar.

    The post graduate diploma holder in international business had the right start to her career when she joined Taj Hotels in Delhi in 2001 and rose to become deputy manager sales within four years. She then worked at American Express for a brief period before tasting blood in television sales  when she joined NDTV India  as a senior sales manager looking after NDTV Good Times and NDTV Lifestyle.

    She moved to Aidem Ventures for a while after which she rejoined NDTV Lifestyle as vice-president sales –  a post she held for more than three years. Her impressive profile got her next assignment as national head international business at Star India. She was shifted to Disney+Hotstar as national vertical head for FMCG (F&B). Challenging though her job was, she parted ways after nearly three years to join Discovery Communications as director sales. Three and a half years later she moved on to join Vikram Chandra’s editorji when Outbrain came calling.

    Her comprehensive knowledge and wide exposure to the media sector, combined with her ability to adapt to shifting market conditions, positions her as a key driver of growth at Zee Media, going forward.

    Mumbai: Animation company Cosmos-Maya India has announced the appointment of Megha Tata as its chief executive officer, who will oversee the company’s operations and lead the animation studio into its next phase of growth. Her appointment comes on the heels of the company’s recent announcement of a $50 million investment plan to facilitate growth and expansion in Europe and North America.

    Megha Tata comes with over three decades of experience in the management of television networks in the media and entertainment industry. Prior to Cosmos-Maya, Tata was a managing director at Discovery Communications India. She has held leadership positions at other eminent broadcasters such as BTVI, HBO, Turner International India, and Star India. At Cosmos-Maya, Tata aims to leverage her wealth of knowledge and decades of expertise to drive the organisation’s next phase of growth and solidify the studio’s position as the foremost animation studio in Asia.

    Commenting on her appointment, Megha Tata said, “I am thrilled to start my new journey with Cosmos-Maya. I have always looked for challenging yet exciting opportunities in my career, and animation is one such sector that poses immense growth potential.     Discovery India’s Amol Majumdar no more

    Mumbai: Discovery Communications India’s associate director – distribution and Eurosport strategy Amol Majumdar has passed away due to a heart attack on Sunday morning.

    Majumdar has been associated with Discovery Communications since December 2014. Prior to that, he was deputy associate director at MSM-Discovery, a broadcast distribution joint venture (JV) between Multi Screen Media (MSM) or Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) and Discovery networks that came to an end in January 2015. He has been associated with the JV company since July 2004.

    Majumdar’s former colleague Rahul Johri who is president – revenue at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, has expressed his shock at the sudden demise of his friend on Facebook.

    NTO 2.0: Discovery Communications India publishes new RIO

    Mumbai: Discovery Communications India has published its reference interconnection offer (RIO) issued under telecommunications (broadcasting and cable) services interconnection (addressable systems) regulations, 2017 for all distribution platforms. The new RIO will be effective from 1 December onwards. 

    The tariffs for TV channels mentioned in the RIO adhere to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) new tariff order (NTO) 2.0.

    The channel operates nine standard definition pay-TV channels and five high definition pay-TV channels. It is also offering eight bouquets to TV subscribers.

    The implementation of the new tariff order 2.0 is on hold as broadcasters under the aegis of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) have challenged the Trai order in the Supreme Court. The final hearing on the matter is scheduled for 30 November

    IAA India president Megha Tata set for second term

    Mumbai: The India chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) has unanimously re-elected Discovery Communications India-South Asia MD Megha Tata as president of the body. Tata, therefore, will be returned for the second term, announced IAA at its AGM held here on Friday.

    “It is an honour and a privilege to be leading the India chapter of IAA for the second term,” said Tata. “Along with the wonderful Mancom I hope to continue to strengthen the India chapter and help build a strong ecosystem for the common good of the industry.”

    “In spite of a challenging year, we did many successful events, and am sure the coming year will be even bigger and better,” she added.

    Eros International Media group CEO & executive director Pradeep Dwivedi was elected as vice president and the other office-bearers include Lodestar UM CEO Nandini as honorary secretary and The Free Press Journal director Abhishek Karnani as honorary treasurer.

    Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd MD and CEO Punit Goenka will continue to guide the new team as immediate past president, said the association in a statement.

    The members of the managing committee elected include Another Idea founder Jaideep Gandhi; The Indian Express Pvt Ltd executive director Anant Goenka; ABP Network CEO Avinash Pandey; Deshdoot Media Group managing director Janak Sarda, and GroupM CEO-South Asia Prasanth Kumar.

    The co-opted members are Havas Group India CEO Rana Barua; Dentsu Aegis Network CEO-APAC and chairman India Ashish Bhasin; Marketing Amar Ujala Publications president Rajiv Kental; Indira Television Ltd director Rani Reddy, and RK Swamy Hansa and IAA Presidents’ Council chairman and IAA Global immediate past chairman & world president Hansa Srinivasan K Swamy.

    The members invited to the managing committee will be shortly announced.

    MUMBAI: Discovery, after featuring PM Modi in the first episode of Man Vs Wild, which was shot in India, has now signed Superstar Rajinikanth, to feature in the first episode of a new format series called ‘Into The Wild with Bear Grylls’ produced by The Natural Studios and Banijay Asia. The show marks the television debut for Rajinikanth, admiringly addressed as Thailavia, who has gained a cult status for being a Humane Superstar – simple, humble, generously loved – and adored by millions for more than four decades.  Rajinikanth will join the world's most recognizable face of survival and outdoor adventure, Bear Grylls.

    Into The Wild with Bear Grylls is an innovative new format inspired by Man Vs Wild, which is one of the most watched wilderness survival television series in the world. Last year, ‘Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls & PM Modi’ episode disrupted the Indian media landscape, establishing itself as the TV event of the year. Beyond Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bear Grylls has also hosted prominent celebrities in the past such as then sitting American President Barack Obama, Kate Winslet, Roger Federer, Julia Roberts and many more.

    Bandbudh aur Budbak helps catapult Discovery Kids ratings by 112%

    Discovery Kids’ new show Bandbudh aur Budbak has helped in propelling the TV ratings of the channel to a historic high in the country. Discovery Kids garnered 17,479 GTVTs* for week 7 as per BARC (Age group 2-14, India Urban) more than double the average 8229 GTVTs* garnered by the channel in the preceding 3 weeks. The reach for Discovery Kids has grown from 8.5 Million to 10 Million, while TSV has almost doubled from 28 minutes to 52 minutes*.

    Speaking on the occasion, Discovery Communications India, Head – Discovery Kids, Uttam Pal Singh said, “Our insight that everyone loves naughty kids is proving to be correct with the success of Bandbudh aur Budbak.  In just 5 days, this show has helped us in delivering historic high GTVTs– the number will go up further once full 7 days of Bandbudh aur Budbak data is captured next week. The show follows the fun school life adventures of two best friends, Badrinath and Buddhadeb who often land in trouble because of their antics but luck always seem to be on their side and they manage to escape scot-free.

    Discovery Kids will showcase 156 episodes of Bandbudh aur Budback. The channel recently announced that it has commissioned Reliance Animation to produce a new disruptive original Indian animation series ‘Little Singham’, inspired by ‘Singham’, India’s most successful supercop brand and one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters of all time. Targeted at kids in the age-group 5-11 years old, ‘Little Singham’ will make its debut on TV in April 2018 on the completely revamped Discovery Kids channel. Little Singham, India’s youngest supercop, will have the intro line – ‘Police ki wardi, Sher ka Damm, Naam hai mera – Little Singham!’
