It provides opportunities to network, learn, celebrate and have fun,” he concludes.

‘How Do They Do It’ on Discovery Channel

MUMBAI: ‘How Do They Do It?’ premieres to dissect and analyse the inner workings of some of the most seemingly regular objects and technologies that have changed the way we live today. How do fireworks end up being multi-coloured? How are incense sticks made? How do you crack the world’s toughest nuts? The show reveals the remarkable innovation, processes, designs and inspirations behind some of the most ostensibly ordinary objects.

‘How Do They Do It?’ will air every Monday to Friday at 8 pm starting 12 January, 2015 on Discovery Channel.

The episodes also highlights some of the interesting facts from India like Mumbai Monorail – how do they build a monorail in one of the most crowded cities on earth; Tiffin System – how do they get hot home cooked food to thousands of Mumbai workers; World One – how did they build the world’s tallest apartment building; Dehydrated husks of gourds are transformed into Sitars – India’s most famous musical instrument which has influenced musicians like the Beatles and the Doors; trading at world’s largest diamond exchange in Surat and many more.

From infrastructures to technologies, food, materials, vehicles and what-have-you, each episode spotlights commonplace objects and processes that we rarely think about. Passengers check in for a flight – sometimes less than an hour before departure – yet their bags make it to the same flight and destination. Twenty-first century farmers spend less time under the sun, thanks to high-tech automatic rancher robots running their homesteads. We often take for granted the end-product or result, but what exactly happens along the way?

Discovery Channel takes you behind the scenes to unveil the methods, machines, and minds behind the technologies that go into even the simplest of consumer goods. You may never look at ordinary objects the same way again.

  • Discovery Channel to premiere ‘Eaten Alive?’ on 31 December

Discovery Channel to premiere ‘Eaten Alive?’ on 31 December

MUMBAI: On 31 December, Discovery Channel will present a never-seen-before deadly encounter – ‘Eaten Alive?’. The programme features snake researcher and conservationist Paul Rosolie, attempting to get eaten by the giant snake – alive. Paul has dedicated his career to study the Giant Green Anaconda, the largest and most powerful snake in the world and the top predator in the Amazon.  This challenge was created to get maximum attention for one of the most beautiful and threatened parts of the world, the Amazon Rainforest and its wildlife.

The two-hour special, ‘Eaten Alive?’ will premiere on Wednesday, 31 December at 8 pm on Discovery Channel.

Rosolie has specialised in the western Amazon for more than a decade and his efforts have helped bring awareness to the Peruvian Rainforest, the natural habitat of the Giant Green Anaconda.  This year, over a 60-day period, crews chronicled Rosolie’s expedition to the hidden realm deep within the Amazonian jungle. It is in this floating forest that Rosolie believes the largest anacondas in the world live and breed and one of the only locations to truly study these elusive and majestic snakes in the wild.  On his previous expedition to this secluded part of the Amazonian jungle, Rosolie was very close to capturing what he believed was the world’s largest anaconda, a 25 to 27-foot behemoth that slipped through his hands and nearly dragged him to the bottom of the floating forest.

“I’ve seen first-hand how the Amazon Rainforest is being destroyed.  It is so rampant that we may be the last generation with the opportunity to save it.  People need to wake up to what is going on,” said Paul Rosolie. “What better way is there to shock people than to put my life on the line with the largest snake on the planet, the Green Anaconda?”

Since Rosolie’s goal was to persevere through the constriction and potential ingestion deep into the belly of the beast, he relied on a custom-built suit he designed for his protection.  Constructed by Rosolie and his team of engineers working alongside herpetologists, the suit was built to ensure the snake’s safety just as much as it was to protect Rosolie’s life.  The highest measured force of an anaconda constriction has been documented at 90psi, which would be the equivalent of having a large school bus on one’s chest.  Since anacondas rely on their massive size and power to subdue their prey,  Rosolie risked life and limb in the hopes of measuring the constriction force of a massive anaconda, to gain more insight on its hunting and feeding behaviors, and ultimately, to gain a greater understanding of the inner workings of these majestic creatures.

Both Paul Rosolie and the Giant Green Anaconda are healthy and alive.

Tune in to watch Paul’s daring attempt to enter the belly of the beast, and his terrifying encounter with the massive snake.

  • ‘Skyscraper Live with Nik Wallenda’ to air on Discovery Channel on 3 November

‘Skyscraper Live with Nik Wallenda’ to air on Discovery Channel on 3 November

NEW DELHI: Nik Wallenda, “The King of the Highwire” is back at it again. This time, he is heading to the historic windy city of Chicago to attempt his most audacious and challenging tightrope walk yet. And like the legendary Wallenda family tradition, he will do it all without a net or harness. He is also planning to walk a portion of the tightrope walk over the Chicago skyline wearing a blindfold.

Skyscraper Live With Nik Wallenda   will air live globally in over 220 countries on Monday, November 3 at 5:30 am and a special telecast at 9 pm exclusively on Discovery Channel.  The live event will be hosted by NBC News’ Willie Geist, Natalie Morales and The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore.

In June 2013, Nik became the first person to ever successfully traverse the Grand Canyon on a tightrope. Globally, 30.4 million viewers across 186 countries tuned in to witness the historic live event which generated nearly 40,000 tweets per minute, with #Skywire holding seven of the trending topics worldwide and generating 1 million mentions for the day. The special was recognised as the most social show across all broadcast and cable networks in the U.S. It was also recently honoured with an Interactive Emmy® for Multi-platform Storytelling for its companion website, which featured compelling video, 360-degree interactive views, backstage moments, real-time social updates and many other digital elements.

“I’m always pushing myself both physically and emotionally. I hope to inspire people around the world and show that the impossible is not so impossible if you set your mind to it,” said the 35-year-old Nik.  “This has been a dream of mine and something that I’ve been practicing for a while.”

“For both parts of the tightrope walk, I’m going to face challenges like I’ve never experienced before,” said Nik.  “I’ll not only need incredible physical strength to complete this walk, but laser-focused concentration.  I’m incredibly excited to show the world what you can do if you put your mind to it, pursue your dreams and never give up.”

Fans and viewers across the globe, including those in Southeast Asia, will also be able to witness Nik’s upcoming walk via a LIVE streaming multi-platform companion experience on DiscoveryChannelAsia.com. Several cameras which will be attached to Nik, will provide viewers multiple LIVE raw angles of the walk as it happens. Viewers and fans can stay updated on the walk and also experience the walk through a 360-degree panoramic simulation on the groundbreaking global website – http://www.skyscraperlive.com/.

For the first part of the tightrope crossing, Nik will walk further than two city blocks – uphill rising to a 15-degree angle – from the iconic Marina City’s west tower to the Leo Burnett Building at more than 50 stories high above the Chicago River.  Not only will this be the highest skyscraper walk in the history of the Flying Wallenda family, it will be the first time that he has ever attempted it at such a steep angle.  Nik will then be blindfolded for the second part of the tightrope walk, which will span from the Marina City’s west tower to the east tower.  Dozens of cameras will be positioned across the city and on helicopters – capturing every step as Nik attempts to cross one of the windiest sections of Chicago.

A seventh-generation member of famed “Flying Wallenda’s,” Nik began performing with his family as a toddler and made his first professional tightrope walk at just 13 years old.  He hopes this latest feat will inspire others to go after their dreams and dedicates it to his family, particularly his great-grandfather, the legendary Karl Wallenda, who died after falling from a tightrope in Puerto Rico in 1978.

Nik will be joined in Chicago by his wife and three children, his close friends and an engineering team led by his father Terry Troffer.

Skyscraper Live With Nik Wallenda is produced by Peacock Productions for Discovery with Gretchen Eisele, Colleen Halpin, Knute Walker, Benjamin Ringe and Betsy Wagner serving as executive producers.  Sharon Scott is President and GM of Peacock Productions.  Howard Swartz serves as executive producer for Discovery.  Other Executive Producers include Nik Wallenda, David Simone, Winston Simone and Shelley Ross.
