    MUMBAI: When Diljit Dosanjh talks music, even silence feels like a rhythm waiting to drop. In a candid and characteristically cheeky chat on Gal Baat with Spotify, the global Punjabi superstar revealed that his latest album and world tour Aura owes its name to his fans. “They’d say they felt a special energy at my shows, that’s how Aura happened,” he smiled.

    Dosanjh, who’s been effortlessly blending bhangra beats with pop swagger across continents, spoke about how India’s soundscape is a musical buffet. “Indian music is so diverse,” he said, “but Punjabi music… it just dominates the world.” The statement, delivered with his signature grin, was less brag and more truth considering his sold-out arenas from Vancouver to Wembley.

    Amid all the spotlight and studio sessions, the Lover hitmaker admitted that his creative fuel often comes from quieter, humbler places. “I don’t get much time in my schedule, so whenever I find an escape, I go to this park where people sing free music and sometimes I just join them,” he shared.     Warner Music India and Warner Music Canada Come Together To Launch 91 RECORDS

    Mumbai:  Warner Music Canada and Warner Music India have come together to launch a new joint venture, 91 NORTH RECORDS, aimed at supporting artists of South Asian heritage.  The new entity will be guided by renowned artist and producer Ikky, who has come onboard as Creative Director.  

    Ikky has already made huge waves across the industry, racking up more than two billion streams worldwide with songs such as Shubh’s “Baller”, Diljit Dosanjh’s “Chauffeur” and Sidhu Moose Wala’s “Bambiha Bole”.  He launched his own label, 4N Records, in partnership with Warner Music and Coalition Music in 2021.    

    91 NORTH RECORDS’ first signings are Canadian-based Punjabi stars Karan Aujla and Jonita Gandhi. Both artists will work closely with Ikky as well as A&R Director, Charlie B.

    Karan released his new album Making Memories last Friday and over the last five years has become one of the scenes biggest artists. Since his first major hit “Don’t Worry” in 2018, he’s received almost three billion views on YouTube, has garnered over one billion audio streams and eight million followers across his social media channels.

    The name 91 NORTH RECORDS references both countries with a nod to India’s country code and Canada’s geographical location and the logo is inspired by India’s national flower the lotus.

     

    The label held a launch event at Warner Music Canada’s offices in Toronto on Tuesday, August 22.

    Mumbai: Diljit Dosanjh, widely known as the ‘Super Singh of Punjab,’ has announced a partnership with Warner Music, the first time he’s signed a deal with a major record company.  Dosanjh is one of India’s leading stars and has found fame as an actor, singer, songwriter, and television presenter. 

    Dosanjh will be working with Warner Music to amplify his global music career. He has forthcoming singles with Canadian rapper Tory Lanez and the Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz, who announced his own partnership with Warner Music last year.

    He has starred in some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful Bollywood and Punjabi films of all time – appearing in the likes of “Honsla Rakh,” “Jatt & Juliet,” “Jatt & Juliet 2,” “Punjab 1984,” “Sardaar Ji,” “Super Singh,” “Sajjan Singh Rangroot,” “Shadaa” and “Udta Punjab.”

    Dosanjh also enjoys a parallel stellar music career. He has recorded 13 studio albums and established himself as one of Punjabi music’s biggest stars.  His 2020 album “GOAT” was featured on Billboard’sGlobal Chart and went Top 20 in Canada. His latest track “Lover” has already generated more than 68 million views on YouTube.

    The partnership is the latest landmark move from Warner Music India, which launched just two years ago in March 2020.  The company swiftly signed a licensing deal with Tips Music, which owns the rights to some of the most popular Bollywood films ever produced; founded the Maati label, dedicated to the fast-growing Indian folk music genre; signed several distribution deals focused on labels from India’s different cultural and linguistic traditions.  In the Punjabi music scene, Warner Music has signed partnerships with Ziiki Media and Sky Digital.  

    Warner Music India is growing its domestic roster of superstar and developing artists, hitting the headlines last month when it signed a partnership with Armaan Malik, setting up the Always Music Global label dedicated to homegrown talent, and arranging to release his non-film music.  The company has also had success with Warner Music’s international roster in India, helping the likes of Alec Benjamin, CKay, Dua Lipa and Masked Wolf storm the charts.
