ALTBalaji launches original stand-up comedy in Tamil, Telugu

MUMBAI: ALTBalaji has added a pinch of fun, sarcasm, wit to its collection for Tamil and Telugu users. The OTT platform recently launched original stand-up comedy videos inthese languages.

Tamil episodes feature popular stand-up comedians like Shanti Kumar and Shaik Baba Sharifuddin to name a few, while the Telugu library comprises talented and well-known artists Baggy, Manoj and Mervyn.

“We are thrilled to bring original regional stand-up comedy on ALTBalaji. It is fast emerging as a high growth genre for web audiences. Offline stand-up shows have time, place and ticket constraints whereas web as a medium takes away all these pains and enables access on a click. Based on consumer insight, we understood that the stand-up available to viewers in India is mostly English or Hindi, neglecting the regional language demand and so we have identified local talents from these regions and got them on board,” ALTBalaji CMO Manav Sethi commented on the new episodes.

Leo Burnett launches new digital platform for HDFC Life

MUMBAI: With the advent of the digital age, the sky is the limit for innovation and creativity. In a bid to create acts and solutions that trigger a larger and much sought-after change for brands, Leo Burnett has developed a new digital platform for HDFC Life customers, enabling them to leave behind more than just financial legacy for loved ones.

The digital platform called #MemoriesForLife allows the man of the house to record little anecdotes, words of wisdom and life lessons, so that he continues to
guide his loved ones in his absence.

This digital platform will be launched via an integrated campaign designed for both offline and online media.

The idea comes from the customer understanding that, often, a lot is left unsaid in the strife for securing the future of loved ones.

The way it works: Record your message on the #MemoriesForLife platform, set the date and time you want your loved one to receive it and HDFC Life is committed to ensure its delivery.

This is a strategic move to shift insurance from a transactional space to an emotional space, and to remind the man of the house that he means a lot more to his family than just money.

HDFC Life senior EVP, head marketing, products, digital & e-commerce Sanjay Tripathy said, “We at HDFC Life believe that today’s hard-to replace individuals are far more important to their families than just their financial legacy. With #MemoriesForLife, we have made a strategic move to shift life insurance from a transactional space to a more emotional one in the form of a time capsule. Also, this bolsters our position as a leader in the digital space improving the online end-to-end customer experience. Most of all, #Memories ForLife’ is a new opportunity for us to reinforce our brand promise of ‘Sar Utha Ke Jiyo’ in our customers’ lives where they can record life’s little and big lessons to help their loved ones lead a life of pride forever.”

The brand film narrates the story of a young successful executive who forgoes a business trip to Singapore to spend his special day, his birthday with his mother. It is later revealed that it was after watching a poignant video of his father’s words of wisdom, recorded when he was 17 years old (10 years back), that propelled him towards this different path. The narrative emphasizes the power of the individual to guide his family through life’s many challenges, even in his absence.

Leo Burnett chief creative officer RajDeepak Das adds, “For HDFC Life, this year we are helping them launch a new product in form of a strong engagement platform. Memories for Life is a great example of how we are pushing the bar in bringing innovation, co-creation and creative thinking together to build HumanKind brands. Our idea was to bring HDFC Life’s Sar Utha Ke Jiyo philosophy into practice. In our busy lives we often lose out on special moments with our loved ones. This film subtly reminds us about that, without losing the Sar Utha Ke Jiyo lens of the brand.”

  • MK Anand upbeat about Times Network’s revamp

MK Anand upbeat about Times Network’s revamp

GOA: Times Television Network has revamped itself as Times Network with a new tagline – ‘Now or Nothing’ and a new logo. The new logo will sport a pyramid with a red dot on the top.

It may be recalled that Indiantelevision.com was the first to report about Times Network’s re-branding plans.

The network has five different channels under it, which were launched in different period of times. Of the five channels, apart from ZoOm all the other channels end with Now – Times Now, Romedy Now, Movies Now, and ET Now. “That’s where the ‘Now or Nothing’ tagline comes from,” informs Times Networks CEO and managing director M K Anand.

“We have strong branches but the trunk needs to be strengthened and the revamp is to ensure that. Moreover, we don’t want to restrict ourselves as a television network only. Hence we decided to break a few boundaries and expand. Our new logo is a pyramid, which signifies the population of the country and the red tip on the top is our target audience. This will ensure that everyone in the network will have the same corporate identity. All the brands should complement and respect each other in the network. ‘Now or Nothing’ is a credo that we have been following since inception. It’s just that we made it a network motto,” Anand says.

Every revamp comes after detailed research and analysis and has the ability to impact and change consumer behaviour and consumption patterns. When queried about this, Anand tells Indiantelevision.com, “Firstly, the change of the network’s logo won’t leave an impact on the channel’s creatives. Here the consumers are trade, advertisers, DTH companies and MSOs and not the viewers. The most important consumer of this revamp are our 1000+ employees, who now know that they are no longer an employee of a particular channel, team or floor but a member of the entire network.”

Anand goes on to say that Times Network would soon be launching the Times Now app, which will have both broadcast content and fresh content. “This is a serious attempt from our side to establish ourselves on the digital platform. In three months’ time, we are planning to launch the app with an aim to be a leader in that fraternity too,” adds Anand.

A presence on the digital platform with apps has almost become mandatory for most networks. However, the revenue model for these avenues remains a challenge. “How much ever we might want to adopt a subscription model for our digital platforms, it is currently not possible due to technical deficiencies and consumer behaviour. Hence we will follow the advertising revenue model,” asserts Anand.

Times of India already has an app, which offers news updates. Now with the launch of the Times Now app, will the two compete with each other? To this, Anand says, “Yes we will and there is no problem in that. Our app will have more videos but yes we will also provide news and if that means competing with the Times of India app, we will.”

Speaking about BARC’s roll-out of television ratings data by the end of April, which also means the end of TAM’s tenure, Anand says, “The statistics won’t have much of an impact, nor will it turn out to be a game changer. Instead of one, now the other will conduct the survey. Having said that, I was initially concerned about structural changes and new figures that would be rolled out by BARC. However, it has now been cleared that the structure will be the same but the sample size has definitely increased. I don’t think we will see a ‘ratings dark’ period. Not receiving ratings for a week or two is not likely to leave too much of an impact.”

  • Doordarshan to monetise content archive through digital platforms

Doordarshan to monetise content archive through digital platforms

KOLKATA: Public broadcaster Doordarshan has finally decided to make some money out of its huge treasure of content. It is currently involved in converting its entire archive into digital format which it is also keen to monetise. On the other hand, the broadcaster is also looking at creating its own web portal to disseminate content of national importance, free of cost.

Two media agencies are being identified that will assist it in marketing this treasure trove. Recently, an expression of interest (EoI) was floated by Doordarshan and in the RFP (request for proposal) process, the names will be announced, said Doordarshan deputy general CK Jain while speaking exclusively to indiantelevision.com on the sidelines of IDOS 2014 in Goa .The tender process will take nearly six months, by the end of which, Jain hopes that it will have a longer list of digital content.

“We have around two lakh hours of content yet to be converted. In fact we have converted 2,500 hours of content already which is being sold via physical media such as DVDs and CDs,” he said.  The programmes include Nirmala, Discovery of India and other classical programmes.

The aim is to make the content available online and then monetise it by identifying its worth.  “We will convert the legacy tapes into digital formats,” Jain said adding that the pubcaster has content going back to pre-independence era.

A national archive committee has been formed for identifying free and monetary content. Doordarshan is also exploring new revenue schemes for content syndication. Through this, it aims at getting a steady revenue stream.

On the yet unnamed web portal, viewers will be treated to rare recordings of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru etc that will be available free of cost to digital audiences. It is further learnt that Doordarshan would make the matter available on platforms such as Bloomberg, Sa Re Ga Ma India, iTunes, Prasar Bharti and other telecom operators in the country.
