‘DID L’il Masters Season 5’ is all set for buzzy launch

Mumbai: Zee has always been proactive in providing Indian youth with a global platform to showcase their talent. The channel is all set to welcome another season of its immensely popular franchise for the youngest dancing talent in the country, “Dance India Dance (DID).” The fifth season of “DID L’il Masters” is set to premiere on 12 March and will air on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 p.m, only on Zee TV.

The channel has come up with an interesting marketing strategy to ensure that the new season creates mass hysteria of an unforeseen magnitude.  Catering to more than one lakh people per day, the channel also used floating OOH in key Mumbai sites like Bandra Worli Sea Link and Juhu Beach for high-impact visibility.

The highlight initiative was the biggest and first-of-its-kind fan-sourced 360-degree dance video mosaic on the streets of Mumbai. The idea provided passionate dancers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to express their undying love for dance while being captured by a 360-degree rotating camera.

Each such 360-degree dance video of a DID buff dancing their hearts out made its way into a 30 feet x 11 feet video mosaic. The three-day activity that commenced on 5 March at Bandra’s Carter Road Promenade, witnessed a total of 1500+ entries by 7 March, thus paving way for the channel to make a spectacular entry into the International Book of Records.  The gorgeous judge of the show, actor Sonali Bendre too participated in this activity by recording the final video to register a world record of the ‘World’s biggest 360-degree video mosaic’ using maximum, unique 360-degree videos sourced within 72 hours.

Taking the joy of dancing into the by-lanes of India where dreams often do not find avenues, Zee TV collaborated with GiveIndia to host dance workshops for underprivileged kids supported by the giving platform in Varanasi, Ahmedabad, and Nagpur. While the three talented DID L’il Masters skippers- Vaibhav Ghuge, Vartika Jha and Paul Marshal demonstrated simple choreography for the kids to follow, it was the unbridled joy and innocent love for dancing on each of their faces that made the workshops such a huge success! As part of this noble initiative, DID L’il Masters is raising funds to educate and empower underprivileged children.

Having cemented his position as a master story-teller and a multi-faceted director, Siddharth Anand will add yet another feather to his cap,  with his debut as judge on the show. Together along with ace choreographer Marzi Pestonji who has been an integral part of the DID family across seasons, they will help the talent strike a perfect balance between dance and drama in their performances. Motivating the kids every step of the way, choreographing their routines and polishing their acts are the show’s skippers Vaishnavi Patil, Tanay Malhara, Jeetumoni Kalita and Bir Radha Sherpa –  each of who have risen from the very same platform. Adding some tongue-in-cheek wit, spontaneity and comic relief to the show are its talented host duo- Jay Bhanushali who continues his association with DID and child comedienne Tamanna who had viewers in splits when she shot to fame on Zee TV’s India’s Best Dramebaaz.

Zee TV, Deputy Business Head, Deepak Rajadhyaksha said, “With a strong legacy of creating stars out of India’s common man through our varied homegrown non-fiction formats, Zee TV launched Dance India Dance back in 2009. The franchise has only grown ever since and transcended the boundaries of being a mere reality show and changed the landscape of dance in the country, cutting across age groups through its extensions like Li’l Masters and Super Moms.  In fine sync with our brand philosophy Aaj Likhenge Kal, the previous seasons of DID Li’l Masters have enabled young talent in the country to leverage their dancing talent and build an extraordinary future in the field of dance. Through a slew of opportunities and the right kind of exposure, the show has given birth to an all-new breed of young budding dancing superstars who have emerged as names to reckon with in the entertainment fraternity. The new season of DID Li’l Masters celebrates the kind of superlative dancing talent that separates the blockbuster kids from the ordinary and wins them an instant celebrity status. In fact, a Bollywood Blockbuster aura has been created around the new season through all its communication, brand imagery and a season-long Bollywood theme. The format now enables the contestants to perform as solos, duos and groups, exploring and establishing the latest trends, forms and styles in the dance circuit. And, as we welcome this season’s Top 16 contestants, we wish them luck and hope that their dance journey brings them the fame and recognition that they deserve.”

Commenting on her TV debut as a judge on DID Li’l Masters, Chitrangada Singh said, “Dance has always been my passion and as an actor in our film industry, dance has played a big role in my journey. I think of dance as a form of expression and a medium to tell stories. We’re probably the only culture that manages to beautifully integrate dance into our films and it even takes the story forward, adding its own unique flavor. As judge on DID Li’l Masters, I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge pertaining to the importance of expressions and grace in dance with the contestants, especially the Top 16, as they progress through the season. I am enjoying my stint completely as it has given me an opportunity to experience, first-hand, the amazing pool of talent in our country, the young children whose incredible talent promises to shape our future to build a better tomorrow!”

Bollywood director Siddharth Anand who has joined the judges’ panel this year said, “On the set of my film, in a way, I also judge talent, and direct them. There, it’s my vision. Here, there’s a creative director with whom I have extensive discussions on what their vision is for the show and what they want to portray. I love the passion that this team has; it matches the passion that I have for my work,” says Siddharth, who has done his homework through extensive workshops of dance.” Speaking of the kind of talent he is looking for in the show, he said, “I will take a holistic approach and will be looking at the stories that they are trying to tell through their dance, expressions, costumes, overall presentation and how well they use the stage. I’ll leave the technicalities to my co-judge Marzi.”

Ace choreographer Marzi Pestonji further added, “DID Li’l Masters is about etching the future of dance in our country. The show serves as a great medium for budding young talent, honing their skills to become experts in this field. The winners of the show, over the years, have experienced tremendous fame in the industry and achieved new heights in their career. I am thrilled to continue to be a part of this journey and present the next generation of dancing sensations. This season’s contestants truly have what it takes to make the country dance to their tunes!”

After months of grueling auditions held in every nook and corner of the country, DID Li’l Masters is all set to announce its Blockbuster Top 16 Bacche who will find their training ground with the skippers as they are divided under ‘Tanay Ke Tigers’, ‘Bir Ke Baahubali’, ‘Jitumoni Ke Jaanbaaz’ and ‘Vaishnavi Ke Veer’. • DID Lil Masters supercharges Zee TV to Hindi GEC leadership

DID Lil Masters supercharges Zee TV to Hindi GEC leadership

MUMBAI: There‘s a lot of pomp and revelry going on at India‘s oldest Hindi general entertainment channel. And with reason: even as it gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in October this year, Zee TV, has vroomed to the front of the Hindi GEC weekly run, leaving behind its arch rival Star Plus in week 33 (ending 18 August) of 2012. What gave it the additional kick to race ahead of its rivals was the incredible 8 TVR that its flagship dancing reality show ‘DID lil Masters season 2’ generated.

As per TAM data (C&S, HSM, 4+) provided by Hindi GECs, Zee TV notched up 283 GRPs (last week 247 GRPs), with the DID Lil Masters 2 finale (which aired for three-and-a-half hours on 12 August) fetching around 56 GRPs. What also contributed good numbers were its mythological show ‘Ramayan’ that debuted with a 2.7 TVR and its ‘Gold Awards’ that recorded 3 TVR.

DID lil Masters-2 opened its current season with a 5.8 TVR and rated 3.5+ TVR on an average throughout.

Zee TV non-fiction head Ashish Golwalkar said, “DID lil Masters is the biggest franchise we have. The story has a heavy storytelling of how a common man becomes big. There wasn’t any drastic difference in this season as compared to the last season but we did try some small innovations that worked wonders for us and were well accepted by the audiences.”

According to Golwalkar, ‘DID lil Masters 2’ promoted a healthy lifestyle for kids which was structured as a part of the content. “This helped us attract more family viewing. Parents thought it was good and they have seen changes in the eating habits of their kids because of the show. This season, we also had presence of Mithun Chakraborty throughout. Last year, he was on the show only for few episodes,” he added. The channel had also introduced muppets in the show to attract eyeballs.

Advertising industry professionals point out that Zee TV is a channel to watch out for. “It has been doing fairly well since past 4-6 months with the launch of new properties. The channel is investing in its programming and trying to deliver good content,” Zenith Optimedia SVP Navin Khemka said.

There have been dancing properties like Just Dance (Star Plus) and Chakk Dhoom Dhoom (Colors) but they weren’t able to reach heights that DID lil Masters managed to reach. “I believe more established properties like DID lil Masters tend to deliver more numbers as compared to newer properties. The channels should understand that a ‘me-too’ property won’t work,” Khemka added.

“The channel has achieved the No. 1 spot; it‘s great but it would be a challenge to retain the position. For this, Zee TV‘s fiction programming has to perform more strongly. Also, any channel‘s success depends on what the others are airing,” a media expert said on condition of anonymity.

What makes Zee TV‘s achievement laudatory is the fact that it has dislodged Star Plus from the pole position it has held on to for over two years. The last time, Star Plus moved to the No 2 spot was when Colors had registered two more GRPs in May 2010.

Last week, Star Plus lost around 15 GRPs ending with 255 GRPs. ‘Arjun’, which debuted with 2.3 TVR last week, fell to 1.3 TVR while ‘Lakhon Me Ek’ rated 0.7 TVR.

Meanwhile, Colors has grabbed the No.3 spot in the GEC ladder on the back of improved ratings of shows like Jhalak Dikhlaja that rated 3.3 TVR (last week 2.6 TVR) and Balika Vadhu that clocked 4.4 TVR (last week 4 TVR). The channel added 21 GRPs to end the week with 238 GRPs.

Sony Entertainment Television (Set) lost 11 GRPs to clock 214 GRPs even as its crime-base properties like Adaalat (1.7 TVR), C.I.D (3.4 TVR), Crime Patrol (3.4 TVR) and Indian Idol-6 (1.8 TVR) yielded ground.

Life OK at No.5 added six GRPs to close the week with 134 GRPs. The Mahadev-Parvati Vivah special episode on the channel clocked 4.6 TVR.

Sab, the second GEC from Sony Entertainment Network, added five GRPs to its last week’s tally and registered 133 GRPs.

Sahara One with 35 GRPs (last week 33) remains at the bottom of the ladder.

  • Hindi GECs bounce back, as Zee TV’s DID lil Masters sets new record

MUMBAI: After losing 74 GRPs last week, the Hindi GEC genre has bounced back adding 116 GRPs in the week ended 11 August.

Zee TV‘s flagship dance reality show DID lil Masters-2‘s episode with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif to promote Ek Tha Tiger on 5 August garnered a whopping 7.5 TVR.

This is DID lil Masters‘ highest recorded rating followed by the launch episode of DID lil Masters 1 that rated 6.7 TVR. The channel‘s DID lil Masters 2 Limelight aired immediately after the Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif episode clocked 3.1 TVR.

Zee TV added 36 GRPs to its last week‘s tally to end the week with 247 GRPs. Genre leader Star Plus too added 36 GRPs registering 270 GRPs.

During the week, Star Plus launched Lakhon Mein Ek to replace Amir Khan‘s Satyamev Jayate on Sunday morning on 5 August which generated a 0.9 TVR on its debut. Comparatively, SMJ garnered an average of 2.5 TVR for each episode.

Additionally, the channel launched two new shows on 11 August – Teri Meri Love Story and Arjun. The former opened with 1 TVR while Arjun debuted with 2.3 TVR. The mega blockbuster Houseful 2 which aired on 5 August clocked a 2.8 TVR.

Sony Entertainment Television (Set) added 19 GRPs to close the week with 225 GRPs.

Set‘s singing reality show Indian Idol had also seen Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif taking centre stage to promote their film Ek Tha Tiger on 10 August. The episode fetched the channel 2.5 TVR. Meanwhile, Sony‘s newly launched fiction property Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage recorded 0.9 TVR.

Viacom 18‘s GEC Colors added 14 GRPs to end the week with 217 GRPs. Its prime-time fiction properties like Balika Vadhu (4.0 TVR), Sasural Simar Ka (3.3 TVR) and Parichay (2.4 TVR) have seen a rise in viewership.

Taking No. 5 position is Life OK, the second GEC from Star Network bouquet, that registered 129 GRPs (last week 107). The rise in the rating of the channel can be attributed to the improved ratings of its mythological property, Mahadev.

Sab, the comedy channel from Sony Entertainment Network, lost 10 GRPs to close the week with 128 GRPs, just one GRP short of its nearest competitor Life OK.

Sahara One with 33 GRPs (last week 34) retained its position at the lowest rung on the Hindi GEC ladder.

  • DID Li’l Masters lifts Zee TV to No. 2

MUMBAI: Helped by the kids version of its popular dance reality show Dance India Dance, Zee TV has added 29 GRPs (gross rating points) to its last week‘s scorecard, narrowing the gap with the Hindi GEC leader Star Plus.

Zee TV is now 23 GRPs away from Star Plus, but this gap could widen once again next week as the Aamir Khan Sunday morning show Satyamev Jayate is expected to get blockbuster debut ratings.

As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S) for week ended 5 May, Zee TV recorded 239 GRPs and has climbed back to the second position. Interestingly, Dance India Dance Li’l Master 2 audition has garnered 6.2 TVR. Since its debut last week, DID Li’l Masters has captured the top position among the Hindi GECs. The show premiered on 28 April with a 5.8 TVR.

According to Zee TV, the second season of the show has beaten the launch day ratings of all other non-fiction shows in the last one year, including Sony’s Kaun Banega Crorepati (5.2 TVR), Jhalak Dikhla Ja- 4 (4.1 TVR) and Star Plus’ Just Dance (3.7 TVR).

Zee TV’s fiction show Pavitra Rishta (3.47 TVR) has also seen improvement in ratings and has become the sixth most watched show.

Star Plus continued to lead the genre with an addition of seven GRPs. The channel closed the week with 262 GRPs. Five of its fiction shows are in the ‘Top 10 shows’ list.

Sony Entertainment Television (Set) slipped back to No. 3, losing 20 GRPs to end with 220 points. In the last week, the channel had aired 3Idiots, which had helped it retain its No. 2 position. Set’s crime-based shows, C.I.D (3.37 TVR) and Crime Petrol (3.34 TVR) have slipped to the bottom of the Top 10 shows ladder.

Colors, meanwhile, has settled at No. 4, maintaining its 195 GRPs. Balika Vadhu was the only show from the channel that found its place among the top 10. Once the No. 1 show, Balika Vadhu stood at No. 5 with 3.66 TVR.

Sab, the second GEC from Sony, lost 6 GRPs to clock 104 points. Star‘s second GEC, Life OK, added two GRPs to end the week with 85 GRPs.

Sahara One with 41 GRPs (43 GRPs) remained at the bottom of the ladder.
