    Mumbai, 21 March, 2018: News18 REEL Movie Awards, a News18.com marquee property with Reliance Digital as the presenting sponsor, celebrated new age cinema like never before in presence of renowned artists, film-makers and producers at the Taj Lands End in Mumbai, yesterday. Personalities such as Rajkummar Rao, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sonali Kulkarni and Richa Chadda among others graced the event with their presence. Jury members Nikhil Advani, Sudhir Mishra and Sujoy Ghosh looked on while the new-age cinema artists received their well-deserved awards.

    The awards opened with Prasoon Joshi, ad-man and CBFC Chairman being welcomed on the dais for a riveting conversation reflecting upon his challenges in his current role. The evening then moved towards recognizing excellence in new age cinema and honouring the personalities who gave their best in 2017. Amit V Masurkar took home the first News18 REEL Movie Awards for Best Director for Newton, Irrfan Khan was recognised for his work in the movie Hindi Medium under the Best Actor (Male) category, while a surprised Ratna Pathak Shah accepted the Best Actor (Female) award for her role in Lipstick Under My Burkha.

    On accepting the award, Ratna shared, “I am surprised that a 60-year old artist was picked for the award since it was quite the chance that the jury took and I am happy that they did.” The actor dedicated her award to the team of Lipstick Under My Burkha.

    The jury presented an award for the Breakthrough Actor to none-other-than Rajkummar Rao. The elated star said, “2017 was a great year for cinema and I hope it continues. I am so happy that the dream I had seen as a young boy sitting in Gurgaon has come true. I want to thank the audience for appreciating such cinema and we will continue to keep bringing excellent content for them.”  

    Mukti Bhawan won the first News18 REEL Movie Awards for Best Film and director Shubhashish Bhutiani, along with his team accepted the awards and shared, “I stayed in a room with my father in preparation for the film, pretty much taking a journey like the protagonist in a film, in order to make this movie happen. Winning the award is truly an honour and a privilege.”

    Meher Vij was awarded the Best Supporting Actor (Female) for the movie Secret Superstar, while Pankaj Tripathi won the award for Newton in the Best Supporting Actor (Male) category.

    The awards concluded with a riveting panel discussion on digital content creation, moderated by Network18 Digital CEO Manish Maheshwari, with Sujoy Ghosh, Saurabh Shukla, Sudhir Mishra, Richa Chadha and Dhawal Gusain taking the dais as panelists. The event was live-streamed on Jio TV.

    MUMBAI: The India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) hosted the 7th edition of its annual property, the Olive Crown Awards. JWT leads the pack as they bag four Golds at the Olive Crown Awards 2017, on Wednesday 15 March at Famous Studios, Mahalaxmi (Mumbai). The awards acknowledged the remarkable work of those individuals who drove the message of sustainability or ‘green advertising’. The event was attended by senior marketing, media and advertising professionals from across the country.

    An eminent jury comprising renowned professionals such as K V Sridhar, Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Hyper Collective; Sonal Dabral, Chairman & Chief Creative Officer of DDB Mudra Group, India; Carlton Disilva, CEO & CCO of Hungama Digital Services, Malvika Mehra, ​Founder & Creative Director of Tomorrow Creative ​Lab ​and Raj Nair, CEO & Chief Creative Officer of Madison BMB, shortlisted the winners through a rigorous process, keeping in mind the contribution of each individual towards saving the earth. The jury for the Corporate Crusader award included Shernaz Vakil, Chairman & MD of Dai-ichi Karkaria Ltd, Suresh L. Goklaney, CEO of Eureka Forbes Ltd, Sachin Kalbag, Editor of The Hindu and K. Anandasagar, MD & Chief Compliance Officer of Citibank, following a similar procedure in short-listing the winners.

    The awards were presented across 20 different categories, including the coveted title ‘Green Crusader of the Year’ award, which was presented to the charming actress Dia Mirza for her contribution towards the welfare of the society by associating with NGOs, in addition to her constant efforts towards the green initiative. The award was presented by Monica Tata, along with the Guest of ​Honour, Actor and Social contributor Vivek Oberoi. The’ Campaign of the Year’ and the ‘Brand of the Year’ awards was presented to The Hindu for their #spiritofBengaluru campaign, ideated by J Walter Thompson, India.

    IAA India chapter president Neeraj Roy said, “It is really heartening to see the message of a ‘Green Earth’ reach millions of people with the effective apparatus of mass media. We are extremely honored to host yet another successful edition of the awards, and we look forward to replicating the same success in the coming years with more captivating entries that are contributing in making the world a better place to live in.”

    Vivek Oberoi said, “Thanks to a tradition that my family started 11 years ago in our Juhu house lane, of planting trees on each birthday, our locality has transformed, bringing about a significant change.”

    Dia Mirza said, “It is a honour to receive the award for Green Crusader of the Year at Olive Crown Awards 2017. It is crucial and extremely difficult to make people realize this umbilical link we have towards the environment.”

    Shot over two days in Mumbai, Hrithik & Jacqueline underwent intense training and prep for the ad film’s action and dance sequences. The duo trained in hand to hand combat and took Tango lessons to get their legwork right.

    On the day of the shoot, despite pulling a thigh muscle during an action sequence, the committed actor that he is, Hrithik continued to shoot till the wee hours of the morning. Meanwhile Jacqueline proved to be a natural when it came to choreographed action, pulling off one vertical split after another with ease.

We didn’t want anything about this advertisement to be regular. Hrithik and Jacqueline understood that brief and were more than happy to go the extra mile to make their first on screen appearance together truly special.     A global ad campaign has been planned for a leading designer and luxury tiles & decor brand. The teaser of the advertisement broke on 18 November, while the ad film releases on 21 November. A gala launch is being planned in Dubai which will be attended by Hrithik Roshan, Sahil Sangha and the entire team that pulled off the campaign. The advertisement has been produced by Sahil & his actor-filmmaker wife, Dia Mirza’s production company, Born Free Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

    NEW DELHI: Actor and producer Dia Mirza has made her directorial debut by directing a Public Service film on the occasion of World Tiger Day 2016, taking her commitment to championing causes connected with nature to the next level.

    Written by Cara Tejpal and Sahil Sangha, captured by ace photographer Rohan Shrestha and produced by Born Free Entertainment, the film aims to spread the vital message of Tiger and Nature Conservation through the innocent yet aware voices of children belonging to different age groups.

    Dia said: “This has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Involving our future generation in this initiative has been nothing short of enlightening and fulfilling for me. As tigers struggle for survival, I hope that the message sent out is strong enough to nudge our nation to guarantee the tiger protection from threats like poaching, and intrusion into their natural habitat. We need to remember, what happens to the tiger, to our forests and our rivers, ultimately affects each one of us”

    Sanctuary Asia head & well-known conservationist Bittu Sahgal said: “Dia Mirza joined the Sanctuary family over three years ago when she spearheaded our ‘Leave Me Alone’ campaign. Since then she has evolved into a highly credible voice for conservation, tirelessly supporting issues that are crucial but lack visibility. By conceptualising and directing this PSA, Dia has crafted a poignant message from over one million Kids For Tigers to the elders who are in control of their lives: ‘We demand you leave us a better world. All we need to do is protect nature and nature will protect us!’”

    The status of the animal still remains “endangered though countries such as India, Nepal, Russia and Bhutan have registered an increase spike in the Tiger population.

    Hotstar to thrill viewers with ‘Shockers’

    MUMBAI: If you are stuck at office or wondering what to do this weekend when it’s raining cats and dogs, fret not ‘cause Indiantelevision.com has got you covered with some exciting news to make your nights crazy. Director Faruk Kabir, who made his debut with Allah Ke Bandey (2010) has made a comeback into direction with web fiction show Shockers, which depicts six horror stories based on the life of six different individuals. “The web is an exciting space for me and is free of censorship and branding,” says Kabir.

    Targeting 15-40 demography, the show is available for free on Hotstar to give the viewers an adrenaline rush. From a supernatural love story to a philanderer’s gory end, midnight food deliveries to selfies, these stories are not for the weak hearted.

    It features six actors: Dia Mirza, Kalki Koechlin, Rajat Barmecha, Amit Sadh, Prateik Babbar and Amyra Dastur.

    We have several players in the digital eco-system like Viacom18’s Voot, Sony Pictures Networks’ Sony Liv, Star India’s Hotstar, Balaji Telefilm’s soon to roll-out digital platform Alt Digital Media, Netflix, etc producing original content. But Hotstar original is probably the only one to have taken a plunge into the horror genre.

    “India is emerging as a digital consumer. Hotstar is a huge platform with 70+ mn users. Shockers couldn’t get a better platform than this. It did not interfere into anything and that is how a channel should ideally do. The producer and channel need a common match of belief in each other,” he further adds.

    Kabir is of the opinion that so far the players have played it safe by exploring only two genres namely comedy and rom-coms. “The kind of horror we have seen in our TV industry is not what it has to be. There is potential to explore new concepts in this category. Indian film industry, too, has had a very low focus on this genre. So I took it as a challenge to serve the large audiences with my series,” voices the director.

    All the six stories have been explored in the least convoluting manner and follow a simple writing style. Spanning between 10 to 15 minutes, each episode has been shot in different locations using different cameras within just 24 hours of prior planning. The storyline demanded each episode to filmed in different cameras, the directed explains. The captivating music has been given by Ishq Bector while the VFX is done by Doodleart Productions.

    Talking about getting A-list actors on board for the web-series, Kabir strongly believes that the actors need to be fearless and should like to experiment. “The actors were kind to act and understood the reason behind coming together for Shockers. All of them were interested in doing this and we all had fun shooting this series,” he adds.

    The director is already geared up for Shockers season 2 and In the Closet, which will hit on the taboos that exist in our society. He is also working on Stalkers showing true to life incidents. Kabir hasn’t locked in the distribution platform for it yet.
