Movieverse and Jojo Studios roll out their first Gujarati family film

MUMBAI: Gujarati cinema is about to get a double dose of firsts this Navratri. Movieverse Studios and Jojo Studios are joining forces to launch their debut Gujarati film: a wholesome family entertainer designed to tickle funny bones and tug heartstrings alike.

The collaboration is a milestone for both: Movieverse Studios, the mainstream content arm of IN10 Media Network, is stepping into Gujarati cinema for the first time, while Jojo Studios, the newly minted film arm of the country’s fastest-growing Gujarati OTT platform, is making its cinematic debut.

The film stars Raunaq Kamdar, Mitra Gadhvi and Shraddha Dangar, and is directed by Kilol Parmar. Promising a mix of humour, emotion and cultural relatability, it taps into the recipe that has driven Gujarati films to growing box office success, not just in Gujarat, but in neighbouring states as well.

IN10 Media Network, managing director,  Aditya Pittie said, “Regional cinema is the growth frontier for Indian entertainment. Gujarati films are leading that wave with stories that resonate far beyond state borders. Our collaboration with JOJO Studios reflects both the market’s potential and our commitment to rooted yet widely appealing storytelling.”

Jojo Studios, founder, Dhruvin Shah added, “We are thrilled to partner with Movieverse Studios for our film debut. Gujarati cinema has evolved into a commercially robust and creatively exciting space, making this the right time to step into films.”

Movieverse Studios, ceo, Vivek Krishnani summed it up and said, “This project balances creative strength with audience demand. With Jojo app already a leading platform in Gujarat, we are confident this is the first of many films audiences will wholeheartedly enjoy.”

With regional cinema booming and family-driven narratives in demand, this Navratri release looks set to bring Gujarati culture, comedy and heart to screens nationwide.

  • Bachchan’s god-mode cameo lands on your screen as Fakt Purusho Maate premieres on Jojo

Bachchan’s god-mode cameo lands on your screen as Fakt Purusho Maate premieres on Jojo

MUMBAI: What do you get when a dead grandfather, divine powers, and a modern love story walk into a Gujarati household? Fakt Purusho Maate—a high-spirited, genre-blending blockbuster that’s ready to stream its madness on Jojo from 25 July.

Fresh off a box office run that mixed laughter with generational chaos, the Jay Bodas and Parth Trivedi-directed film takes a wild swing at patriarchy, family feuds, and ghostly guidance. The plot follows Purshottam (Darshan Jariwala), an old-school family man who returns from the afterlife during the 16-day Shraadh period—with a divine mission to sabotage his grandson’s romance with an independent woman.

Esha Kansara added, “Radhika is a very special character to me. She’s calm, clear, and knows how to stand up for herself without being harsh. I think a lot of young women will relate to her. This film talks about equality and family in such a warm and light-hearted way. It doesn’t preach—it just shows you a different way of thinking. I’m really happy it’s streaming on Jojo now because I feel it will connect with so many people. It’s the kind of story that starts a conversation at home without feeling heavy. And those are the stories that stay with you.”

Jojo founder & CEO Dhruvin Shah said, “At Jojo, our vision has always been to bring stories that truly resonate with audiences and spark meaningful conversations. Fakt Purusho Maate is one of our most significant releases to date, not just because of its star cast or box office success, but because of the way it blends sharp entertainment with a powerful social message. It reflects the kind of storytelling we believe in—engaging, thought-provoking, culturally rooted, and universally relatable. We are proud to be the platform that brings such meaningful narratives to life and helps them connect with viewers across generations.”

The film also stars Mitra Gadhvi and Aarti Vyas Patel, with Kedar-Bhargav’s music giving it a pulse that swings between nostalgia and now.

So whether you’re tuning in for some Big B magic, family banter, or just to settle the pati-vs-patraani debate, Fakt Purusho Maate is here to charm your screens—and maybe shake up a few drawing-room discussions along the way.

  • Jojo to stream detective comedy ‘Gadbad Gotalo’ packed with chaos, crime and comic timing

Jojo to stream detective comedy ‘Gadbad Gotalo’ packed with chaos, crime and comic timing

MUMBAI: Two rookie detectives, one dead-silent village, and a case that blows up into a bizarre circus of lies, secrets, and laughter. Jojo, the Gujarati content platform, has announced its new original comedy-thriller series Gadbad Gotalo, set to stream from 27 June 2025. The five-episode series spins a tangled yarn of village oddities, unexpected twists and eccentric suspects, served with dollops of humour and suspense.

Set in a sleepy village that would give Agatha Christie’s countryside settings a run for their cryptic money, Gadbad Gotalo follows two well-meaning but wildly clueless detectives. What begins as a seemingly simple investigation quickly spirals into a comedy of errors as the duo stumbles into the middle of a full-blown kidnapping plot — surrounded by townsfolk who each carry secrets stranger than fiction.

Starring Kushal Mistry and Parth Parmar as the bungling detectives, the series also ropes in an ensemble of familiar Gujarati faces including Jatin Prajapati, Maulik Nayak, Vishal Pithadiya, Jay Wadhwani, Jiyansh Changela, Chetan Chhaya, Michelle Trivedi, Rajal Pujara, Urvi Vyas and Dhruvika Sai. Each character adds a twist of chaos to the tightly-wound whodunnit — or rather, who-didn’t-do-it.

“At Jojo, we’re always looking for stories that feel new but familiar, the ones that bring people together, spark laughter, and leave a little something behind. Gadbad Gotalo does just that. It’s fun, fresh, and rooted in the kind of storytelling that Gujarati audiences have always loved. We’re proud to bring this Jojo Original to screens and can’t wait for viewers to experience the madness for themselves”, said Jojo founder & CEO Dhruvin Shah.

Tapping into the cultural quirks of small-town India, the show pairs Gujarati flavour with tight writing, brisk direction and performances that switch between slapstick and sharp. The showrunners promise not just laughs, but layered storytelling hidden under the cloak of chaos.

With Gadbad Gotalo, Jojo continues its push to deliver original Gujarati-language content tailored for digital-first audiences hungry for humour and heart.

Gadbad Gotalo starts streaming from 27 June exclusively on the Jojo App.

  • Jojo Movies rolls out Gujarati hits for rent on Prime Video across India

Jojo Movies rolls out Gujarati hits for rent on Prime Video across India

MUMBAI: Regional cinema just turned a corner, and Gujarati films are leading the way. Jojo Movies, a rising force in vernacular content, has partnered with Prime Video to make its acclaimed film library available on the platform’s movie rentals offering starting May 2025. The rollout marks a landmark moment for Gujarati cinema, which now finds itself accessible to a pan-Indian audience on demand.

Films such as 3 Ekka, Veer Esha Nu Seemant and other recent crowd-pullers will now stream as paid rentals, adding a fresh layer of visibility and viability to the regional film industry. The model lets viewers across India rent these films without subscription barriers, opening a direct monetisation channel for creators while broadening exposure for Gujarat’s cultural narratives.

“We are at a turning point in the evolution of regional cinema, and our collaboration with Prime Video is a game-changer for both Gujarati cinema and regional content as a whole”, said Jojo Movies founder & CEO Dhruvin Shah. “This isn’t just about distribution—it’s about redefining how regional stories are shared, valued, and experienced nationally. The availability of Gujarati films via Movie Rentals on Prime Video underscores the rising demand for culturally rooted storytelling. Our vision has always been to take powerful regional narratives to wider audiences, and this launch is a significant step in making Gujarati cinema a cultural force”.

The move is part of a larger strategic pivot by OTT platforms to tap regional growth engines. As internet penetration deepens and linguistic audiences seek relatable content, vernacular storytelling is no longer a side note—it’s a mainstage act. Jojo’s catalogue hitting Prime Video isn’t just about renting films; it’s about renting pride, culture and a slice of the state to the rest of India.

The digital release also sets the stage for new business models, giving filmmakers a chance to earn directly from pay-per-view audiences instead of relying solely on theatrical or subscription-led returns. For regional storytellers, that could be a ticket to creative independence.
