‘Raanjhanaa’ director shake hands with Dhanush for his next film

MUMBAI: Director Anand L Rai, whose Raanjhanaa generated good response at the box office, is coming up with another romantic film and is currently working on the script.

The making of script is currently under process, and if sources are to be believed by Diwali, Rai will be in a position to talk about the project.

Raanjhanaa was a story of a Hindu Banarasi boy falling in love with a Muslim girl and giving away his life for her.

Rai who thinks that people have lost faith in love, strongly feels that one way of keeping the romance alive is through films. He feels sad (to) see this as love is an integral part of life

‘Kolaveri Di’-fame south star Dhanush, who made his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa, will be working together with Rai again for a film, tentatively from the same genre.

To top it all, his one more project is the sequel to 2011 romcom Tanu Weds Manu. However, Rai did not elaborate on this piece.

Ghanchakkar misses the mark even as YJHD crosses Rs 180 Cr at the

MUMBAI: The Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer Ghanchakkar fails to please the audience, with a poor script and execution. The film opened to indifferent response on Friday, it could not cash in on Saturday and did only marginally better on Sunday to end its opening weekend with figures of Rs 19.35 crore.

Raanjhanaa, which marked the debut of the south superstar Dhanush of Kolavari Di fame, has met with mixed response due to its second half. However, the first week collection figures are a respectable with Rs 32.2 crore; the film may benefit due to poor opposition in Ghanchakkar at places other than North where the Punjabi film, Jatt & Juliet 2, is creating a havoc.

Shortcut Romeo the remake of Susi Ganeshan‘s own Tamil film Thiruttu Payale, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta is doing poorly in its first week having collected just Rs 2.5 crore.

Enemmy, Mithun Chakraborty‘s home production starring Mithun, Mahakshay, Suniel Shetty, Kay Kay Menon and Johnny Lever is doing poor business, barely collecting Rs 1.5 crore in its one week run.

Kamal R Khan in trouble with UP Courts for remarks against actor Dhanush

NEW DELHI: Producer-actor-director Kamal R Khan, who earlier invited controversies with his film ‘Desh Drohi‘ and his presence in Bigg Boss 3, is once again in trouble.

An Uttar Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service officer Amitabh Thakur has filed a petition before Lucknow Chief Judician Magistrate Pramod Kumar for registration of a first information report against Khan for having made extremely objectionable criminal comments in a review of the film ‘Raanjhana‘.

According to the complaint, Khan made the comments against two Schedule Castes in a video on YouTube,

The matter, filed after the police refused to register an FIR, has been fixed for 12 July.

In the 09.40 minute video review uploaded on YouTube on 20 June, Khan said: “Sir, I don‘t know whether you are from UP or not, but I am. In the whole of UP, you will find cobblers and sweepers who look like Dhanush but you will not find such single rotten Brahman as him in entire UP.” He also made some other extremely improper personal comments against the actor Dhanush.

Thakur had previously given an FIR to Gomtinagar police station, Lucknow and SSP, Lucknow saying that Khan‘s comments are clearly casteist in nature and constitute an offence under section 3(1)(x) of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

In his very first film ‘Desh Drohi‘, Khan indirectly referred to the Shiv Sena through his dialogue “Jitni nafrat humhare liye tumhare dil main hain , usse zyada pyar tumhare liye humare seene main hain. Kabhi UP Bihar aake dekhna, mehman ko bhagwan samajhte hain hum”.

This resulted in the film being banned in Mumbai for two months.

Raanjhanaa collects Rs 18.75 crore for the weekend, YJHD still going strong at Rs 172.95 crore

MUMBAI: Raanjhanaa, starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol which opened with weak collections, did well to gather momentum over the weekend. However, a disappointing second half plot being a major drawback, generating bad word of mouth, the film is not expected to carry on the momentum it generated over the weekend. Also, with its hero‘s mass appeal riding on the ‘Kolaveri Di‘ fame, the film was expected to do well in single screen theatres but that has not happened. The film has gone on to end its opening weekend with Rs 18.75 crore.

Enemmy, Mithun Chakraborty‘s home production starring Mithun, Mahakshay, Suniel Shetty, Kay Kay Menon and Johnny Lever is doing poor business, barely collecting about a crore for its opening weekend.

Shortcut Romeo the remake of Susi Ganeshan‘s own Tamil film Thiruttu Payale, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta is a disaster, finding no takers.

Fukrey, a north-centric youth comedy, has sustained reasonably well in its first week with major boost coming from North. The film has collected Rs 17.5 crore in first seven days, with as much as 50 per cent coming from Delhi/NCR/Punjab. The film is reported to have done very well in its second weekend too, assuring the film will emerge a moderate earner.

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 from the Deol clan has dropped to less than 10 per cent of its first week figures collecting Rs 2.55 crore in its second week and taking its two week total to Rs 30.1 crore.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to be strong in its third week. The film has collected Rs 19.65 crore in third week to take its three week total to Rs 172.95 crore. This is certainly Ranbir Kapoor‘s biggest hit so far in a career spanning just six years from his debut withSaawariya (2007) till his last release in 2012 with Barfi! The Kapoor scion has certainly come off age in a big way.

Aashiqui 2, the Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer has added Rs 20 lakh in its eighth week, taking its eight week tally to Rs 78.5 crore. This film has certainly exceeded everyone‘s expectations. The music of the movie has been much appreciated by audiences across the country.

Emami ties up with Dhanush starrer ‘3’

MUMBAI: FMCG company Emami has tied up with the movie ‘3‘ for in-film promotion of their brand Himani Navratna Oil. This movie is south Indian actor Rajnikant‘s daughter Aishwarya Dhanush‘s directorial debut and stars actor-singer Dhanush and Shruti Hassan in the lead roles.

The movie is slated for release in April 2012.

Emami aims to connect with consumers with the proposition of ‘cool‘, keeping in mind the success Kolaveri Di has had with the youth. Himani Navratna oil currently goes with the tagline of”thanda thanda cool cool”.

Emami‘s Krishna Mohan said,”Emami has for the first time tied up with a Tamil movie ‘3‘ for an in-film promotion of the brand Himani Navratna. We are hopeful that the in-film tie up will help in giving that extra mileage to the product. Our previous experiences with film stars in sensitizing Emami products have proved worthy.”

The original movie version of the song”Why this Kolaveri Di” has been recently filmed in a set made to replicate the crowded shopping street of Chennai Marina beach. The song‘s visuals show Dhanush‘s heartbreak for Hassan and Navratna Oil being positioned as a stress reliever.

Apart from this tie up, Navratna is endorsed by celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Suriya, Jr NTR, Chiranjeevi and Mahesh Babu to name a few. Along with a presence in print, electronic media and radio, the brand is also promoted heavily through consumer engagement programs.

In the past too, Emami has used in-film placement of a brand with ‘Agar Tum Na Hote‘, in which Rajesh Khanna, playing the role of Emami‘s owner, hires Raj Babbar to photograph Rekha.
