MUMBAI: Mumbai Tak, the digital news platform from the India Today Group, successfully hosted its premier event, ‘Mumbai Tak Baithak’, yesterday in Mumbai. The event served as a dynamic platform for dialogue on Maharashtra’s political, social, and developmental landscape, bringing together an influential array of leaders, thinkers, and first-time legislators.

Delivering a significant policy update, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the three-language formula outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) will be implemented across the state. During his keynote interaction, Fadnavis also hinted at potential BJP strategies for upcoming municipal elections, stating that while the party may form alliances for the BMC elections, it may also contest independently in other municipal corporations.

The event featured a distinguished line-up of participants including deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, senior leaders Balasaheb Thorat, Chhagan Bhujbal, Aditya Thackeray, and Bala Nandgaonkar, as well as a new generation of public representatives such as Sneha Dubey, Babasaheb Deshmukh, and Sana Malik. Further enriching the discussions, Padma Shri awardee and social activist Girish Prabhune, and renowned economist and public intellectual Dr. Narendra Jadhav, and the special public prosecutor, who has also been nominated as the member of Parliament by the President of India, Ujjwal Nikam shared their insights on governance, equity, and regional development.

  • Tesla drives into India: Mumbai showroom opens with high-priced model Y

Tesla drives into India: Mumbai showroom opens with high-priced model Y

MUMBAI: Mumbai played host to a pivotal moment in India’s electric vehicle narrative on Tuesday as Tesla officially inaugurated its first showroom, a sleek 4,000 sq ft experience centre at the upscale Maker Maxity Mall in Bandra Kurla complex (BKC).1 The much-anticipated debut marks the EV behemoth’s initial physical foray into one of the globe’s burgeoning EV markets, kicking off its Indian journey with the Model Y SUV.

The Model Y, imported as completely built units (CBUs) from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, comes with a rather hefty price tag for Indian consumers: the rear-wheel drive variant is listed at Rs 60 lakh, while the long-range version will set buyers back Rs 68 lakh.2 These figures significantly eclipse Tesla’s base pricing in established markets such as the US ($44,900), China (263,500 yuan), and Germany (45,970 euros), largely due to India’s substantial import duties. Customs documentation revealed each Model Y arrived at Mumbai port declared at Rs 27.7 lakh ($31,988), attracting over Rs 21 lakh in import duties, aligning with India’s 70 per cent tariff on fully-built vehicles priced under $40,000.Devendra Phadnavis

Beyond the showroom, which is strategically located near Apple’s flagship store, Tesla has imported nearly $1 million worth of Supercharger infrastructure and accessories from the US and China, earmarked for installation around Mumbai to support early adopters. The company is also establishing a dedicated service centre in Kurla West for after-sales support.

The long-term play for India appears clear. Tesla already boasts a registered office in Bengaluru and an engineering hub in Pune. Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, underscored this broader vision, hailing Tesla’s arrival as more than a mere commercial venture.

“This is not just the inauguration of an experience centre but a statement that Tesla has arrived, a statement that it has arrived in the right city and state, that is Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mumbai stands for innovation and sustainability. Tesla is not just a car and car company but stands for innovation and sustainability,” Fadnavis declared.

Tesla had teased its entry on its India-specific X handle with a coming coon” post, hinting at a July 2025 debut.

  • Indian govt presents Waves 2025 to 100 ambassadors and high commissioners

Indian govt presents Waves 2025 to 100 ambassadors and high commissioners

MUMBAI: In a glitzy push to make India the hotbed of global media action, the government rolled out the red carpet for its ambitious World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (Waves) 2025  today at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi in the presence of 100 ambassadors and high commissioners. MIB officials made a  hard sales pitch  to prod them and make them realise that the Indian government is extremely serious about Waves 2025 and they in turn should carry this message back to their national governments and ensure robust participation from their respective countries.

Waves 2025—set to make a splash in Mumbai from 1 to 4  May 2025—promises to be a star-studded affair that will see the worlds of tech, media and entertainment collide in spectacular fashion.

Union minister for external affairs S. Jaishankar didn’t mince words about the summit’s significance: “Economic and political rebalancing is moving towards cultural balancing. We are not truly global if we are not truly local. Waves 2025 captures the spirit of this endeavour.”

He urged the ambassadors and high commissioners to familiarise their governments regarding the opportunities of global collaborations courtesy the Waves 2025 initiative.

Meanwhile, information & broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw turned up the heat, declaring that “the intersection of creativity, media and technology is transforming the media landscape of the world and reaching a new level of convergence.” He teased that “some of the biggest names” in the industry would be gracing the Mumbai bash.

Not to be outdone, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis jumped into the fray, drumming up Mumbai’s credentials as the “financial and entertainment capital of India” that serves as the “perfect backdrop” for the summit.

“Waves 2025 is a movement,” Fadnavis proclaimed, while welcoming the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology which the government has committed to set up in Mumbai with Rs 391 crore being allocated for it. He expressed hope that “media will continue to be a force for good,” in a world where technology and creativity are increasingly getting into bed together.

Minister of state for information & broadcasting, L. Murugan effusively stepped up to say that Waves  2025 will open  the door  “to joint ventures, co-productions, and business expansion, enabling global media companies to engage with India’s creative sector.  We remain steadfast in creating a conducive environment for the M&E industry, supporting ease of doing business, content localisation, and infrastructure development.”

Information & broadcasting secretary Sanjay Jaju revealed that the four-day extravaganza will feature multiple tracks designed to make waves across the industry:
    * A global media dialogue featuring ministers and policymakers
    * Thought leaders Track with knowledge-sharing sessions
    * Waves exhibition showcasing storytelling innovations
    * Bharat pavilion highlighting India’s media heritage
    * Waves  Bazaar to facilitate business networking
    * WaveXcelerator to back media startups with mentorship and moolah
    * Waves Culturals featuring performances that blend Indian and international talent

Also present was  Maharashtra government chief secretary Sujata Sauni who exchanged a memorandum of understanding relating to Waves 2025 with Jaju.

The organisers are also playing up Waves 2025’s integration with the orange economy, positioning the summit as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation through creative industries.

With Mumbai ready to throw open its doors to thought leaders grappling with issues from AI to streaming revolutions, intellectual property rights, misinformation, and media sustainability, Waves 2025 is gearing up to be the first summit of its kind to tackle these hot-button issues by promoting cultural diversity, innovation, and equitable access to media platforms.

As the countdown begins, all eyes are now on whether this media matrimony can truly deliver on its lofty promise of becoming “the biggest unifying factor between country to country, people to people and culture to culture in the digital age.”

“There’s no connection between organizations under investigations and political donations to BJP,” says Devendra Fadnavis at ABP News ‘Shikhar Sammelan’

Mumbai:  Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis, took center stage at the ABP News ‘Shikhar Sammelan’ today, as the nation eagerly awaits the outcome of the General Elections 2024. Addressing a myriad of issues, Devendra Fadnavis delivered a resolute response to queries regarding his party and its political landscape.

In response to inquiries concerning electoral bonds, Fadnavis clarified, “The party with the largest number of MPs and MLAs has received 4000Cr; while 12000Cr went to opposition parties that have lower representation at all levels.”

Fadnavis further asserted, “BJP has not received any black money. Whatever was received was through a legalized process; people have donated to all parties.”

Speaking on seat distribution, Fadnavis said, “At least the NDA coalition has been able to resolve our seat distribution process, unlike the INDIA coalition.”

“Voters aren’t confused, media and politicians are. Voters know who they want in office,” Fadnavis added, underscoring the electorate’s discernment. He further added, “Marathi, Kunabi, Muslim, as well as Dalit voters are with us. They believe in Modi ji who worships and upholds the Constitution.”

“In 2014, voters were hopeful for Modi; by 2019, they saw what all he could achieve. This year, we have loyal voters who have seen India transform through the decade,” Fadnavis emphasized, highlighting the steadfast support for the BJP.

With the General Elections currently underway, Devendra Fadnavis articulated the party’s vision for the future, accentuating key initiatives and strategies aimed at fostering development and prosperity across the nation.
