    Dentsu Communications appoints Vipul Thakkar as national creative director

    MUMBAI: Dentsu Communications has appointed former DDB Mudra group creative head- South and East Vipul Thakkar as national creative director.

     

    As the creative leader of Dentsu Communications, Thakkar will work towards strengthening the agency’s southern network and expanding the Mumbai operation. His appointment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen on the group’s creative caliber.

     

    Dentsu India Group executive chairman Rohit Ohri said, “I am delighted to have Vipul as a part of the Dentsu Communications leadership team. ‘Work that works’ has been Vipul’s mantra. His work has worked not only for the brands that he’s worked on, but also for the agencies he has worked in.     Thakkar is a seasoned advertising professional with over 19 years in the business. He joins Dentsu from DDB Mudra Group, where he was creative head – South & East.

     

    He has created work for brand categories such as lifestyle, finance, beverages, fashion and FMCG. At DDB Mudra he was responsible for work on Royal Challenge, McDowell’s No.1, TTK Prestige, Peter England and Jos Alukkas. Prior to DDB Mudra, he was at Ogilvy Bangalore, where he created ads for ITC Bingo, Sunfeast Yippee, Allen Solly, MTR and Titan watches.

    Benny Augustine joins Webchutney as director – finance

    MUMBAI: Webchutney, part of Dentsu India Group, has appointed Benny Augustine to head their finance team. The agency hopes to scale new levels of growth with Augustine‘s appointment.

    Speaking on the appointment, Webchutney CEO and co-founder Sidharth Rao said “The year 2013 has been a remarkable year for us, especially with the Dentsu partnership. We have been working with the team at Dentsu India to chart out an accelerated growth plan for the agency for the next few years. On the basis of my interactions with Benny prior to his appointment, I realised that we both shared a common vision for Webchutney.”

    Prior to this, Benny was working as VP, finance with Contract Advertising and has over two and a half decades of experience in the fields of commercial functions involving budgeting, profit and loss management, cash flow management, fee negotiations and management information systems (MIS).

    “I am really delighted that Benny has joined Webchutney. His extensive experience will provide the right direction to the Webchutney Finance team. He will closely work with me, Sidharth and other key management team members.     Umesh Shrikhande joins Taproot India as CEO

    MUMBAI: Umesh Shrikhande has joined Taproot India as the new chief executive officer. The announcement was made by Dentsu India Group. Shrikhande, an advertising veteran with more than 20 years of rich experience, prior to this was the CEO of Contract India.

    The advertising veteran has worked closely with various divisions at Contract in the areas of design, direct and digital to enhance traditional advertising. Having worked with a variety of clients and brands such as HSBC, Cadbury, Asian Paints, Shopper‘s Stop, Philips, VIP, Bajaj Auto, BBC World, Aegon-Religare, Tata Indicom, Disney, Zoom, DNA and Grasim, Shrikhande is poised to take one of the most exciting creative boutiques in India – Taproot India, to the next level of growth and expansion. Taproot India, which now has a solid team of talented and capable professionals, will ensure that the company‘s creative quality creates new industry benchmarks.

    Shrikhande, a management graduate from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies had started his career with Lintas (now Lowe Lintas & Partners), where he spent six years. Thereafter he was a core member of Team Contract that led the agency to great success, after which in 2008 he took over as the CEO of Contract India. After a successful spell of nine years at Contract India, he then joined Euro RSCG.

    Shouvik Sarkar joins Dentsu Marcom as ECD

    MUMBAI: Dentsu India Group has appointed Shouvik Sarkar as ECD of Dentsu Marcom.

    Based in Mumbai, he will lead all creative deliveries at the agency’s Mumbai operations.

    Sarkar moves in from Lodha Group where he was working as
    marketing manager. He led integrated marketing strategies at the brand, segment and company levels.

    Dentsu Marcom chief operating officer Hiroshi Omata said, “Shouvik brings a unique blend of multi-functional expertise to our business. His background of consistently developing effective recognized creative work, combined with his knowledge of digital technologies and a mindset further moulded by his intensive marketing experience – will be of great value to our teams and client relationships. I am
    delighted to have Shouvik on board and look forward to his work at Dentsu Marcom.”

    Sarkar said, “Fleet-footed communications solutions rooted in consumer insight are the order of the day. Back in time, Dentsu created the distinctly memorable ‘Sar Uthake Jiyo’ campaign for HDFC Standard Life. The mandate is to extend the same magic to other brands. My goal will be to render ‘Tenka musou’ the Japanese adage of being matchless/ fearless to the team and to the work that we do. I would like to deploy the purist marketing learnings now to a role which delivers more meaningful work for clients, and also help Dentsu grow organically.”

    Sarkar comes in with over 10 years of experience. Prior to Lodha Group, he has also worked with Equus Red Cell, O&M, Dane Doyle Bernbach, Dubai, Contract Advertising and Telibrahma.
