CNBC Australia to launch two new talk shows

MUMBAI: CNBC Australia is all set to roll out two new hour-long topical primetime talk shows that were launched on CNBC in the US this year. The shows, which stars Dennis Miller and McEnroe, will start airing on the network from 20 September.

The Miller talk show will air from Mondays to Sundays at 8 pm (AEST) and will be repeated on Sundays at 1 am and 4 pm and also on Mondays at 1 am. On the other hand, the McEnroe show will air from Mondays to Sundays at 9 pm (AEST) with repeats on Saturdays at 2 am and 5 pm and Mondays at 2 am.
Miller, a five-time Emmy Award winner will bring his blazingly sharp comedy take on serious issues in his trademark take-no-prisoners, suffer-no-fools style to his self-titled programme. Blasting hot-button issues with his pragmatic venting, Miller will highlight current events with a Daily Rorschach segment, a high-speed blitz of monologue jokes along with news photos and videotape clips. Topic-specific guests will appear as philosophical sparring partners, and then matters will move on to a panel drawn from the worlds of news, entertainment, politics and business. The highlights for the week on the show include Clive Barker, author of Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War; Maria Bartiromo, host of CNBC’s Closing Bell; and film, television and stage actor Hill Harper.
The other show titled McEnroe will feature tennis player John McEnroe. The show will have McEnroe sharing his passion for news, music, entertainment and sports. He will be joined by an ensemble cast of contributors that will provide insight and information about the stories and headlines of the day, in all areas of news, sports and entertainment. The line-up of contributors for the start week include Olympic soccer gold medallist Mia Hamm, World Poker Tour commentator Vince Van Patten, stand-up comedian Greg Behrendt and actress Vanessa Marcil.

  • CNBC gives comedian Dennis Miller a daily show

LOS ANGELES: Comedian Dennis Miller will become a TV talking head again in January, this time hosting an hour long show five nights a week on CNBC.
Miller, an Emmy award winner, will also serve as executive producer of the prime-time talk show, which will be taped in Burbank and produced by NBC Studios.
Miller began his career 18 years ago at NBC as a regular on Saturday Night Live. In 1994, he launched a weekly series on Time Warner Inc.’s HBO cable channel called Dennis Miller Live. Later he was a Monday Night Football commentator for two seasons on Walt Disney Co.’s ABC network.
“We are thrilled that he has chosen CNBC as his new prime-time home,” said CNBC President Pamela Thomas-Graham.
Hiring Miller is an aggressive programming move by CNBC, whose nighttime audience is generally smaller than those of its cable competitors.
Miller will be the first broadly known personality to appear on
the network’s prime-time lineup since Geraldo Rivera left CNBC for Fox News Channel in 2001. CNBC has been focusing mostly on business-oriented talk programs at night, like Kudlow & Cramer and Capital Report. Miller’s new program will not necessarily focus on business but on whatever is the most compelling topic of the day, CNBC executives said.
In an unusual arrangement for cable news, it will be produced by CNBC’s entertainment corporate sibling, NBC Studios, which also makes shows like Will & Grace. This is not CNBC’s first nighttime programming experiment. It has also announced that a quarterly show that features the former magazine editor Tina Brown interviewing leaders of finance, media and politics, will become a weekly.
