    Zixi strengthens commercial leadership with key recruitments

    MUMBAI:  IP-based live video transport and observability software provider Zixi has bolstered its leadership team with the appointment of Josh Wiggins as chief commercial officer and Kris Alexander as vice president of product and industry marketing.

    These strategic hires come as Zixi continues to expand its market footprint and drive innovation in next-generation video contribution and distribution.

    Wiggins, a seasoned industry veteran with over 25 years of experience, has held senior roles at AWS, ThinkAnalytics, GrayMeta, and Deluxe. In his new position, he will oversee Zixi’s business development, sales strategy, and partnerships, helping customers and partners maximise operational efficiency and revenue potential through the company’s cutting-edge technology.

    Alexander, who has held key roles at AWS and Akamai Technologies, brings extensive expertise in product strategy and marketing. He will lead Zixi’s efforts in product positioning, customer education, and market messaging, helping media organisations adopt IP-based live video solutions.

    “Josh and Kris bring a wealth of experience and insight to Zixi,” said Zixi CEO Marc Aldrich. “Their leadership will be vital as we continue to deliver innovative solutions and help customers navigate the shifting landscape of live video distribution.”

    Richard Welsh Elected President of SMPTE

    MUMBAI: The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE) earlier this week  announced the election of Richard Welsh as its new president, taking office on 1 January 2025. Welsh, who previously served as SMPTE’s executive vice president, will lead the organisation for a two-year term, concluding on 31 December  2026.

    “I am honored to have been elected SMPTE president and look forward to collaborating with the SMPTE community globally to advance our industry,” Welsh stated. He highlighted  that for over a century, SMPTE’s mission has been to bring moving images to audiences worldwide. Given the proliferation of video devices and on-demand content, Welsh believes the Society’s commitment to ensuring high-quality media experiences is more crucial than ever.

    As the current senior vice president of innovation at Deluxe, Welsh brings over a decade of experience on the SMPTE board, including roles as vice president of education and governor for EMEA and central/south America. He is also a board member of IBC and co-founder of Volustor, a volumetric asset management company.

    Welsh began his illustrious career at Dolby Laboratories, ultimately rising to director of digital cinema services. He also led operations for Technicolor’s digital cinema and localisation services and currently serves as an associate lecturer at Southampton Solent University while co-founding Sundog Media Toolkit

    SMPTE executive director Sally-Ann D’Amato praised Welsh as an “innovative thinker with bold plans for the future.” 

    She highlighted his commitment to expanding the organisation’s reach to diverse audiences and fostering early-career professionals, expressing eagerness to collaborate on turning his vision into reality.

    Deluxe and Technicolor ink digital cinema joint venture

    MUMBAI: Deluxe and Technicolor have inked an agreement to create a new digital cinema joint venture, Deluxe Technicolor Digital Cinema, which will specialize in theatrical digital cinema mastering, distribution and key management services.

     

    This joint venture in digital cinema will bring together best-in-class technologies, personnel, work processes and facilities to provide seamless and exceptional services to its customers on a greater global scale.

     

    Both Technicolor and Deluxe will be committed to the operational and financial success of the new business, which will be managed by Deluxe and based in Burbank, Calif. All other lines of business will continue to operate independently of one another.

     

    “As the global entertainment industry continues its transition to 100 percent digital distribution and delivery, this transformational partnership will be optimally positioned to offer our companies’ existing and future customers industry-leading digital cinema services with greater efficiencies. This is yet another example of Deluxe expanding our partnerships to deliver a suite of next generation digital cinema services to our industry customers,” said Deluxe Entertainment Services CEO David Kassler.

     

    “This partnership puts us in a stronger position to offer industry-leading digital cinema services around the world. At Technicolor we have committed ourselves to services that are driven by creative talent and technology, creating the next generation immersive media experiences our customers have come to expect from us,” added Technicolor president of production services Tim Sarnoff.

     

    This joint venture is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2015.

    Deluxe acquires Sony Colorworks; inks deal with Sony Pictures

    MUMBAI: Sony has sold its digital intermediate, mastering and restoration company – Colorworks – to Deluxe Entertainment Services Group Inc.

     

    Additionally, Deluxe and Sony Pictures Digital Productions Inc (SPDP) have also entered into a multimillion dollar agreement for post services wherein Deluxe will perform DI, mastering and other services for Sony.

     

    As part of the transaction, Deluxe acquired certain assets from Colorworks Inc. Deluxe will operate from a 14,000-square-foot facility, which includes one of the industry’s leading 4K pipelines. The facility is housed in the studio’s Stage 6 and features real-time, 4K processing in a full-digital workflow for top filmmakers from across the industry.

     

    Deluxe, which has been a leader in media and entertainment services for film, video and online content, continues to expand the depth and reach of its exceptional artistry and digital capabilities.

     

    Through Deluxe’s relationship with Sony Pictures, the facility will offer state-of-the-art color grading, mastering, restoration and related services for film and TV projects by studios, networks, independent producers and filmmakers worldwide.

     

    “This agreement is a milestone in our strategic efforts to link our industry-leading artisans arm in arm with world-class content creators,” said Deluxe CEO David Kassler. 

     

    “This is yet another example of progress in our relentless pursuit of excellence for our key customers,” added Deluxe vice chairman Cyril Drabinsky.

     

    An official statement from Sony read, “Sony Pictures has made the business decision to close its Colorworks facility. We are pleased to enter into a services agreement with Deluxe to offer state-of-the-art color grading, mastering, restoration and related services for film and TV projects by studios, networks, independent producers and filmmakers at Sony Pictures.”
