  • IPL fever set to grip fans

MUMBAI: The adventure of VIVO Indian Premier League season 10 is finally going to start today. To be telecast on Sony Pictures Network and streamed online on Hotstar (mobile and internet with a 5-minute delay) in the Indian subcontinent,  this is the 10th edition of IPL in which eight teams are participating and the cricket fans will be able to see players of different team playing in their respective teams.

Today, at the beginning of the India’s most popular sporting event, the opening match will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium in Hyderabad.

The eight captains of the 2017 VIVO IPL got together in Hyderabad for a formal meet and greet with the IPL match officials. They discussed different aspects of the game and the tournament that will be played over the course of the next 47 days. IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla joined everyone over teleconference and addressed certain issues and doubts.

Later, all captains pledged their allegiance to the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) Spirit of Cricket campaign by signing the spirit of cricket bat. The skippers, one after another, trooped onto the stage as their names were called by former Indian skipper Ravi Shastri, who conducted this part of the event.

A panel of elite commentators will be behind the microphone in the 2017 edition of the VIVO IPL bringing to life the colour and flavour of the tournament. As many as 20 commentators will be traveling across the country to lend their perspective on the game across 10 different venues. A few additions to the list along with a blend of veterans are bound to give the cricket loving fan a fine view point of the game from the technical and entertainment aspect.

Hand in hand with its breakthrough 10th season, the Indian Premier League is set to re-activate its immensely popular Fan Park initiative for the third consecutive year. As befits the landmark 10th season of the IPL, the latest edition of the Fan Park promises to be bigger and better.

Money generated from TV/media rights sale is divided into two shares. A) IPL share, B) Franchise Share.

    A) IPL Share: IPL will get 20% of the media rights money in the first two  years of IPL but set to reach 40% by 5th year onwards.

    B) Franchise Share: In the two years, 80% of total media rights money will be divided equally among all teams but it will be reduce to 60% by 5th year onwards.

So the biggest source of revenue generation in IPL is “TV media rights sale”. Back in 2008 when Sony signed a record breaking 10 year deal with BCCI for IPL rights they agreed to pay $1.02 billion over the 10-year contract. Sony will be paying 10% of the total agreed amount ($100 million) every year till 2018.

So of $100 million, $60 million is distributed equally among IPL teams every year while $40 million is kept by IPL governing body.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced the fixtures of the League. The schedule has been designed with each team playing 14 matches – 7 of them at home venues.

The season will also witness IPL returning to Indore for the first time since 2011. The final will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium – on Sunday, May 21st, 2017.

Cricketers from different teams unite for first time to for Kingfisher TVC, use only handheld modes

New Delhi: The ‘Singing cricketers’ dancing to the Kingfisher jingle O la la Leo O has become the first ever television commercial shot entirely by the cricketers themselves/

The TVC is aimed at cricketers celebrating on the streets in their respective cities and interacting with their fans.

This is claimed to be the first ever campaign shot entirely in a selfie mode – using hand held phones, cameras, selfie sticks and drones

The TV campaign took 24 international cricketers and close to a thousand fans to create this magnum opus.

In the current season of T20 Indian Premier League, Kingfisher is associated with six of the eight teams – Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rising Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab.

UBL Senior Vice President Marketing Samar Singh Sheikhawat said “True to the tagline ‘Divided by teams, United by Kingfisher’, the newly launched television commercial for this season’s T20 extravaganza captures the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that binds the teams together. Our latest campaign highlights the game of cricket as more than a sport; it is a medium that brings together diverse people in celebration and revelry. This is in perfect sync with Kingfisher’s positioning as the Original Social Network – some of the best memories are made while watching a game of cricket and sipping on some cold Kingfisher brew!”

In March, Kingfisher introduced the first of its kind Special Edition Cricket Pack, which combined the love for the game and the power of the innovation, to bring this experience in to every consumer’s hand.

This was followed up by a new TV commercial themed around its campaign ‘The Original Social Network’.  Building up the crescendo, the iconic ‘Oo la la le lo’ advertisement hit the screens, featuring cricketers singing and celebrating on the streets of their respective home cities.

IPL Auction: No hat-trick for Yuvraj Singh; Shane Watson, Pawan Negi fetch maximum

MUMBAI: Yuvraj Singh is a name that makes headlines every time the player auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) takes place. He has established himself as a marquee asset and expectations are always soaring. However, the 2016 IPL auction saw a new Indian player emerging as the most sought after.

Youngster Pawan Negi went to Delhi Daredevils and became the most expensive Indian player to go under the hammer at the recent auction fetching a price of Rs 8.5 crore, while the Australian cricketer Shane Watson emerged as the most expensive player of the IPL auction with Royal Challengers Bangalore bagging him for a mammoth Rs 9.5 crore.

The left arm orthodox all rounder Negi’s base price was Rs 30 lakh. What a day for the young man, who has just been named in the India squad for the Asia Cup and ICC World T20!

Yuvraj Singh, whose performance last year failed to make any headlines, too garnered great attention. Sunrisers Hyderabad dished out Rs 7 crore for him. Last year Singh’s was won for a whopping Rs 14 crore by Delhi Daredevils.

It’s a franchise that has not had the stardom yet, no big Indian brand has played for the team and now that they have Yuvraj, they can certainly generate higher sponsorship revenue. Fans will also be very happy with the move,” said a sports media planning expert.

Sony Six aired the entire auction live on 6 February and the telecast had a good traction on social media too with #IPLAuction trending the entire day.

  • IPL Auction: No hat-trick for Yuvraj Singh; Shane Watson, Pawan Negi fetch maximum

“Yuvraj will help Sunrisers rake in more money and fans.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings dominate Facebook fandom map

MUMBAI: Facebook has been mapping fans of the eight teams playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which shows the most-liked teams on Facebook across all of India’s states and districts. Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the kings of IPL when it comes to their Facebook likes.

The map shows that every team is the most supported team in their home states. In states that do not have a team, CSK dominates.

Interestingly, more people in Delhi like the CSK team than their home team. In fact, the Delhi Daredevils do not have a plurality of fans in an Indian district. And in Gurgaon, Mumbai Indians are the most popular among Facebook fans.

The Facebook fandom map is created by the Facebook Data Science team, shows fans of all eight IPL teams across India. Each district is color-coded based on which official team Facebook page has the most likes from the people that live in that district.

What’s more, from 1 April to 10 May, approximately 26 million people had nearly 250 million Facebook interactions around the IPL wherein people engaged in the conversation their favorite teams, players, and with their friends around IPL content. In India, 19 million people had nearly 200 million interactions.
