    Delhi Belly remake in Tamil, Telugu

    MUMBAI: After Tamil, Aamir Khan‘s Delhi Belly is to be made in Telugu.

    While both the versions would be directed by R Kannan, the Tamil version would star Jayam Ravi and the Telugu version will have Nagarjuna‘s son Naga Chaitanya.

    The remake will be shot with a Chennai backdrop and the dialouges will not have any swear words like in the Hindi version.

    It may be remembered that Kannan had earlier directed the remake of Jab We Met in Tamil.

    Delhi Belly was a verbally explosive comical crime-caper with a smart screenplay and witty dialogue as its aces.

    Starring Imran Khan, Poorna Jagannathan, Shenaz Treasuryvala, Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapoor and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles, Delhi Belly narrates the story of three friends in Delhi.

    R Kannan to direct Tamil remake of Delhi Belly

    MUMBAI: Way back in July indiantelevision.com had reported that a number of South Indian filmmakers were anxious to buy the remake rights of the Aamir Khan and UTV film Delhi Belly. Now, it has been confirmed that director R Kannan will be remaking the film in Tamil.

    The remake will be shot with a Chennai backdrop and the dialouges will be interspersed with some common swear words used by the locals. On the dialogue front, Kannan has teamed up with John Mahendran who has been entrusted to write the dialogues of the film.

    Delhi Belly released in mid-2011 was a crime comedy film revolving around three Delhi-based bachelors.

    The name of the production house that will produce the film is currently under wraps.

    MUMBAI: Going by the way Aamir Khan‘s latest film Delhi Belly got an all-round appreciation, UTV Motion Pictures has jumped into the ring to produce writer Akshat Verma’s first, yet untitled, directorial venture.

    The film will be a comic thriller and is being scripted by Verma himself.

    Speaking on UTV‘s associating with Akshat, UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “As a studio, we have always believed in backing upcoming talent who have the potential to bring entertaining cinema to audiences. The fantastic script written by Akshat was undoubtedly one of the key reasons behind the success of Delhi Belly and judging by his concept and vision, we believe he‘ll write and direct a superb film”.

    “Working with UTV on Delhi Belly was a fantastic experience for me. To have a major studio get behind your film completely enables you to do your best work – I‘m inspired and excited to be working with UTV again on my next film,”observed Verma.

    UTV has lined up a slate of films to be released in the rest of the year. These include films like My Friend Pinto, Barfii, Rowdy Rathore, Ghanchakkar, Joker and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.

    MUMBAI: The box office disaster for new releases continues. Not A Love Story, Chatur Singh Two Star and Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande have proved duds. The biggest sufferer is Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande, a film sans face value.

    Meanwhile, for Aarakshan, the controversy, media hype and Gokulashtami holiday worked in its favour. However, the ban in Uttar Pradesh, late release in Punjab and Ramzan month along with lack of appreciation restricted the first week box office collections to around Rs 240 million.

    Singham collected Rs 66.5 million in its fourth week; its tally now stands at Rs 958.5 million.

    With figures of Rs 37 million in its seventh week, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara‘s total stands at Rs 832 million.

    I Am Kalam collections after two weeks total up to Rs 8.5 million, while Chala Musaddi Office Office collected Rs 15.3 million after two weeks.

    Murder 2 box office figures after six weeks is Rs 486.2 million, while Delhi Belly netted Rs 559 million after seven weeks.

    MUMBAI: The three films released on Friday – I Am Kalam, Chala Mussaddi Office Office and Agaah-The Warning – have fared poorly.


    Singham has continued to hold its own in the second week by collecting Rs 251 million, taking its two-week total to Rs 767 million.
     
    Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has performed well to add another Rs 121 million in its third week. The film has mopped up a total of Rs 735 million in its three-week run.
    Murder has taken its tally to Rs 481 million in four weeks. Delhi Belly, on the other hand, has collected Rs 549 million in five weeks.

    MUMBAI: Singham, produced by Reliance Entertainment and directed by Rohit Shetty, has performed strongly at the box office during its opening weekend.


    Excelling at single screens, the movie collected Rs 310 million, making it the biggest opener for Ajay Devgn so far.


    Meanwhile, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara found its following at multiplexes and collected Rs 424 million in its first week.


    Murder 2 added Rs 93 million to its first week total of Rs 365 million to take its two-week tally to Rs 458 million.


    Delhi Belly has collected Rs 38 million in its third week, taking its tally to Rs 535 million.


    Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap‘s total collections in three weeks stood at Rs 139.5 million.


    The four-week tally of Double Dhamaal was Rs 464 million.

    MUMBAI: Exactly 12 days after the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur issued a notice to Aamir Khan and three others for alleged obscenity and use of abusive language in Delhi Belly, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has issued notices to Aamir Khan Productions, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Censor Board of Film Certification challenging the public exhibition certificate issued to the film.


    The petitioners alleged that the film had indecent, immoral and abusive language. They submitted that it was clear violation of Section 5 B of the Cinematograph Act.


    The notices were issued by the bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Anil Kumar on a writ petition seeking direction to quash the certificate for public.

    The Court has asked the respondents to file a reply within four weeks.


    It may be remembered that it is because of the same reason that Nepal and Pakistan banned the film.

    MUMBAI: Aamir Khan‘s Disco Fighter avatar that one saw in the last fewminutes of his latest film Delhi Belly in an item number, is soon going to become a complete character in his next home production.


    And what‘s more, Aamir will be the fourth hero of this venture. He will play the lead in the film titled Disco Fighter that will be written and directed by Kiran Rao. Khan will share the frame with Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapoor in the sequel.


    It is said that Khan had envisaged a sequel when Delhi Belly was in the post-production phase. Khan was always of the opinion that if the film works well, a sequel should definitely be made. The level of success that the controversial film has achieved since it released is said to have prompted a second instalment. However, since he is busy with Dhoom 3, Khan asked his wife to take over the reigns.


    The largely English language comedy has had the second biggest opening of the year after Salman Khan‘s Ready.
