Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone celebrate the little joys of life with Coca-Cola

MUMBAI: This New Year, the brand universally synonymous with happiness, Coca-Cola,gives a refreshing new twist to ‘Open Happiness’ and urges consumers to revel in the joys of life- big and small. The new campaign ‘Choti ho ya badi, har khushi mein Coca-Cola’, featuring the country`s heartthrobs and youth icons Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone seeks to embrace and celebrate all the little moments of happiness that life throws up.

This campaign is another step in the company’s journey of taking Coca-Cola where it really belongs – the masses, the people at large. Coca-Cola’s great refreshing taste, its values; all resonate across the length and breadth of the country. This initiative is directed at helping the country’s fastest growing soft drink brand, Coca-Cola, tostay firmly on its course to the company’s Vision 2020.

The new campaign, which brings together Farhan and Deepika for the first time for a television commercial, spreads the Coca-Cola promise of happiness through a series of delightfully charmingads directed by the celebrated Anurag Kashyap. The campaign sees the two actors liven up the screen with their chemistry and engaging interactions in some everyday situations which have them cherish and rejoice the little joys of life with a bottle of refreshing Coca-Cola.

Speaking on the new campaign, Debabrata Mukherjee, VP – Marketing & Commercial, Coca-Cola India, said, “Coca-Cola is a brand that stands for optimism and happiness. With our new campaign, Choti ho ya badi, har khushi mein Coca-Cola’, we have translated the brand’s happy energy into a series of commercials which capture the essence of finding moments of joy in our day to day lives. The language is very colloquial; the situations are every day, so that every consumer in India can relate to it and feel happy about the celebratory situations. The message is very simple – celebrate your moments of happiness, small or big, with a bottle of Coca-Cola”.

He further added, “We are very happy to have both Farhan Akhtar and DeepikaPadukone join the Coca-Cola family. Our communication for Coca-Cola this year focuses on reaching the masses and both Deepika and Farhan slipped into the roles of “everyday people” with great ease. They are great role models and very inspirational for millions across the country”

Speaking about the campaign, newly appointed Coca-Cola brand ambassador, Actor Deepika Padukone said, “When I think of brand Coca-Cola the feeling of optimism and joy immediately resonates. I have been a huge fan of Brand Coca-Cola, one of the most aspirational and iconic brands in the world and I am glad to have finally got the opportunity to be associated with it. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and working with Farhan, Prasoon, Anurag and the entire team at Coca-Cola has been absolutely incredible. The beauty of brand Coca-Cola is the fact that it stands for values, which are very simple yet very powerful. Values which each and every individual in any part of the world will identify with. I am glad to play my part in delivering Coca-Cola’s message of ‘Happiness’ to one and all in a very ‘Refreshing’ and engaging manner”

Speaking about his experience and association with Coca-Cola, Farhan Akthar said “What stands out about brand Coca-Cola is its universal appeal. No matter where in the world you are, Coca-Cola is synonymous with celebration and joy. I am extremely excited to partner with Coca-Cola and to bring this joy to millions of consumers across the country. The entire team behind this campaign has made the experience tremendously enriching for me. I had a wonderful time shooting for the campaign which has given me an opportunity to portray a distinctly new character. A campaign which will connect with the way people including my fans, far and wide, celebrate their moments of happiness – big or small. All in all, just like Coca-Cola, it has been a very ‘refreshing’ experience.”

Anurag Kashyap who has directed the campaign, said, “The campaign pays ode to the ethos of brand Coca-Cola of celebrating moments of joy no matter how big or small. I loved the concept of taking the cosmopolitan and undoubtedly glamorous icons such as Deepika and Farhan and putting them in extremely rustic scenarios that appeal to masses across the country. The campaign is very fun, happy, and bubbly, just like the effervescence unique to a Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola has given us some iconic campaigns in the past that I have thoroughly enjoyed I hope this campaign receives the same appreciation.”

The campaign has been scripted by Prasoon Joshi and his creative team at McCann Erickson. The film has been produced by Producer Guneet Monga’s Golden Gaddi Films and directed by acclaimed director, Anurag Kashyap. The music of the campaign has been created by Mikey McCleary and Vishal Khurana.

In addition to leveraging mass media advertising, the integrated communication plan includes roll-out of an array of touch points including  out-of-home (OOH) media, digital, behind the label promotion, point of sale merchandise and on-ground initiatives across all key markets.

Commenting on the Campaign, Prasoon Joshi, CEO and Chief Creative Officer, McCann World Group India says, “The concept of happiness is universal, and the joy that one look or a smile from that special someone invokes is universal and not constrained by demographics. Similarly, Coca-Cola delivers the promise of happiness universally; whether you are in small town or a metropolitan city you can celebrate the little joys of life with a refreshing bottle of Coca-Cola. It’s this thought that served as the inspiration for this campaign. We have Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone, two young and highly successful actors that have captured the imagination of the whole country essaying characters that you and I could bump into on the streets of Chandigarh or Allahabad or any other city. “

  • Life OK rides on Screen Awards’ success

Life OK rides on Screen Awards’ success

MUMBAI: When one of television’s biggest properties – the Screen Awards – moved from Colors to Life OK, the second Hindi general entertainment channel from the Star stable, some feared there could be a drop in viewership for the Bollywood award show.

Life OK proved the naysayers wrong. The awards ceremony this year had a whopping 9.0 million TVTs, 23 per cent more than the 6.9 million TVTs (ratings provided by Life OK) garnered by Colors for the last year’s edition of the awards show.

The Screen Awards saw Life OK’s gross viewership rising sharply. The channel’s GVTs jumped to 375 million in Week 4 of TAM ratings from 347 million a week earlier. The show on Life OK had Kamla Pasand as the title sponsor and 13 other sponsors.

Life OK officials chose to remain tight-lipped about the financial details of the show. Industry sources said the channel was expecting Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,50,000 for 10 seconds, but closed most deals between Rs 80,000-1,00,000.

“The 20th Annual Life OK Screen Awards were the channel’s first big-ticket Bollywood event and we are delighted with the response from our viewers not only in India but all over the world. With a clear intent to disrupt both – how an event is programmed and marketed, with Screen properties, we managed to reach out to more viewers than the biggest events and movies on television (in this year so far) – to be precise 74 million people,” said Life OK general manager Ajit Thakur.

“This is just the beginning of Life OK’s journey to the next level – watch out for more.”

The 20th Annual Screen Awards themed ‘Commemorating heroes’ celebrated excellence in over 30 categories across the entire sweep of filmmaking in the Hindi and Marathi film industry.

For Thakur, the success of the awards owes mainly to ‘content’ apart from extensive research and hard work.

“We have always believed that when we pick up something new, we want to do it differently and in a Life OK way. This is why we picked up Screen Awards amongst all the awards. And even there, we did not go for regular humour which is associated with all the awards. We gave it a substantial meaning and that is where Shah Rukh Khan was very supportive and the event was a full family entertainer with the important theme of ‘Heroes integrated’ in the show,” he explained.

Thakur said a lot of the content was personally driven by Khan as he took interest and invested time. SRK was leaving for Dubai for another award show when the Life OK scriptwriter accompanied him on the flight and improvised the script.

The content was also repackaged. “When the Screen Awards shifted from Colors to our channel, everyone thought ratings will drop. But the reason why we partnered and Screen came on-board was they saw a match of content and intent where we believe entertainment must come with inspiration,” said Thakur.

A special awards category ‘Hero of the Year’ was introduced. There were special moments galore, what with SRK introducing heroes or Deepika Padukone performing on a giant nagada several feet above the ground – her act was an ode to the emotional journey of a woman.

The actors, who performed in the show, started rehearsing 10 days prior to the shoot. The acts were choreographed by Geeta Kapoor and the set was designed by production designer and art director Omung Kumar. The set designing took five-six days. To capture the interesting moments, close to 20 fixed cameras were used.

Apart from the content, Life OK’s marketing strategy worked well too. A month prior to the event, a huge outdoor campaign was held across Delhi, Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra with SRK. Ads were released across major newspapers on the day of the telecast as well as a week before it was aired on the channel. Promos were aired across the Star Network and even outside of it. Digitally, #LifeOKScreenAwards was trending on Twitter on the day of the telecast.

The post-production work was completed in less than 10 days. Shot on 14 January, the awards were telecast on Life OK on 25 January, a day prior to the telecast of the Filmfare Awards on Sony Entertainment Television.

  • Films to lookout for in 2014

Films to lookout for in 2014

MUMBAI: As the year 2013 comes to a close, we realise that the year was not really disappointing. We had some really great films that not just did good business but also entertained the audiences. As we usher in the year 2014, we look at the ten films that created the right buzz in 2013 and the chances of them making a blockbuster release looks bright.

    Jai Ho
The year is set to start with a blockbuster. Starring Salman Khan, the film that releases on 24 January is going to be high on drama. The actor started promoting the film on Bigg Boss 7 and also cheekily remarked that “it wasn’t the good way to start the promotion”. But we know promotions or no promotions, if the bhai of Bollywood stars in a film, it’s ought to do well!

    Gunday
Starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, the film started making noise from the time it was announced. The tongue-in-cheek humour by the two lead actors on the chat show Koffee With Karan has increased the interest around the film even more. A Yash Raj Films venture, the film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and is set to release on February 14.

    Happy New Year
The film brings back the trio – Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Farah Khan, who together created magic with Om Shaanti Om in 2007. With an interesting cast including actors like Sonu sood, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani among others, the film is set to release in October, 2014.

    Biopic on Mary Kom
Biopics on sports stars is the new love of the Indian audience, it seems, at least that is what we get from the way Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was embraced. Now, the coming year is set to see another film featuring a sports star – the life of boxer Mary Kom played by Priyanka Chopra. The sportstar has brought many glories to the country. Hope with a film on her, the film industry gains as well.

    Kick
Salman Khan may have missed an Eid release in 2013, but for 2014 Eid, he is all set with Kick. There were a few problems in starting this maiden directorial venture of producer Sajid Nadiadwala, but all’s well when Salman’s the hero and when the film’s releasing during Eid.

    2 States
The film is being jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala and is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, 2 States: The Story Of My Marriage. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the film has created the right buzz even though not much is known about the film.

    PK
So this film brings together the duo of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani who created magic with 3 Idiots. While the film doing good business is a known fact keeping in mind the past records, the only question is if it will be bigger and better than 3 Idiots. With only few leaked out posters, the film that would release on 6 June has managed to keep the audience’s curiosity intact.

    Bang Bang
With Krissh 3, Hrithik Roshan has already proven his mettle. Though the production of Bang Bang has been delayed because of multiple reasons, the film would make its way in 2014 with the actor focusing entirely on the project. The film also stars leggy lass Katrina Kaif.

    Highway
The cute-looking Alia Bhatt made everyone take notice of her when she starred in Student of the Year. Now, it’s Imtiaz Ali’s Highway for which she is making news. The film, shot in different parts of India, is being looked forward by many.

    Singham 2
The sequel to the 2012 Devgn blockbuster, Singham, has been postponed a bit because Rohit Shetty got busy with his small screen venture as a host for Fear Factor. However, now everything is in place and the duo are set to create the magic that they created with the Golmaal franchise.
