Sector 36’s electrifying album drops ahead of its release

Mumbai: As the release of the crime thriller Sector 36, starring Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal, approaches, excitement builds with the launch of its album. Featuring a mix of devotion, emotion, and contemporary sound, each track reflects the film’s intense narrative. Directed by Aditya Nimbalkar and produced by Jio Studios and Maddock Films, the film has already generated buzz with its track ‘Dumroo.’ The four-track album features a range of musicians who capture the film’s energy and essence, immersing listeners in a world of crime and suspense.

The first track, Dumroo, sung by Mohit Chauhan and Anupam Amod and composed by Dhunkey, released earlier this week and received a strong response for its thunderous beats and devotional chants. Following it, Saaya, composed, produced, and sung by Kanishk Seth with lyrics by Yashwardhan Goswami, captures the film’s tension. Maan Kafira, sung by Amit Mishra, composed by Gourav Dasgupta with lyrics by Farhan Memon, reflects inner conflict with a blend of rebellious and soulful tones. The final track, Ruan, sung by Kamakshi Khanna with additional vocals by Savera, composed by OAFF and Savera with lyrics by Sameer Rahat, explores themes of despair, fear, and inner turmoil.

“Creating ‘Saaya’ was a deeply fulfilling experience. This song speaks to that part of us we often ignore – the shadows we carry within. Composing this song gave me the space to explore a sound that feels meditative yet modern, reflecting the inner search for meaning. This song is close to my heart as it reflects intense feelings, suspense and passion that I hope resonates with every listener,” added Kanishk Seth while talking about ‘Saaya’.

Delving into the depth of their track ‘Ruan’, OAFF and Savera expressed, “With ‘Ruan’, we wanted to capture the quiet strength that comes with vulnerability. Kamakshi’s voice brought that to life in a way that was both tender and powerful. Sameer Rahat’s evocative lyrics really brought out the atmosphere of the film and we hope the track speaks to the heart.”

The album is a collection of songs that will take you on an emotional and spiritual journey, pulsating with energy, devotion, and human depth. Prepare to be captivated by the rhythms and emotions of Sector 36, where every beat tells a story and every note heightens the suspense. The film is available exclusively on Netflix starting 13 September 2024.

  • Prem Ratan Dhan Payo…

    Prem Ratan Dhan Payo…

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is about palace intrigue, conspiracy and, as is the wont with Rajshri movies, reconciliation and happy endings. Despite being based on a royal background, the essence remains the same as all SoorajBarjatya films: family and values. This is also the costliest venture Rajshri has produced.

Salman Khan aka Prem is a street-smart Rambhakta in Ayodhya and loves to perform the role of Ram during Ram Leela. As in most films, Prem has a sidekick in Deepak Dobriyal. Salman Khan aka Vijay Singh is the crown prince of faraway place calledPritampur and due for his Rajyabhishek (crowning).

Vijay has royal bearings and makes sure he shows it. One of the routines he follows is to have a sabre dual with his step brother, Neil NitinMukesh. Neil is much influenced negativelyin the palace by ArmaanKohli, a sort of major domo. Also, at odds with Vijay are his two step sisters, SwaraBhaskar and Ashika Bhatia, who want a share in the royal property. Swara ekes out a living as a teacher while Ashika is a student and good at playing football.

Neilconspires with Armaan to remove Vijay from the scene so that he can usurp all the property; he has also been made to believe by Armaan that all his bills are to be sanctioned by elder brother Vijay. Vijay always clears all the bills but Armaan makes Neil believe otherwise thus creating a rift between brothers.

Though about royalty, the film takes a contemporary approach. But we don’t know why Vijay travels in an old style stagecoach while the rest of the people use limousines. That is probably to make it easy for Armaan and Neil to bump him off! So, the coach rider jumps off the coach locking Vijay inside and the coach falls off a cliff.

In comes Prem, put in place by the only loyalist, AnupamKher, a diwan from Vijay’s father’s time. Vijay has survived but is badly hurt. While he is being treated by doctors in some secret hideout, thanks to AnupamPrem is asked to pretend to be Vijay. Prem has a reason to accept because he has secretly fallen in love with Sonam Kapoor, a princess from another state, who is due in Pritampur for the occasion since she is the fiancé of Vijay.

Sonam wants out of the impending marriage because she and Vijay are poles apart.Prem takes it upon himself to correct her misgivings about Vijay by being very nice to her. After all, he is the Rajshri hero who only has other people’s best at heart even if he has to make sacrifices. He also uses his goodness to win over the estranged stepsisters promising them equal share in all the royal wealth. No matter it does not belong to him!

It is time to contend with the evildoers, Armaan and Neil, who have kidnapped Vijay from the hideout. For whatever reason, they take Prem to the spot where Vijay is captive. Armaan is now ready to betray even Neil and plans to let Vijay and Neil get into sabre fight till one is killed.

Sonam’s job meanwhile is to sing songs with Salman and help him play the replacement Vijay with conviction by reminding him of her and Vijay’s past encounter. Of course, by now Sonam has also fallen in love with Prem and become demonstrative in expressing her love for him. All the negative feelings of various character are neutralized by Prem and he gets the trophy.

PremRatanDhanPayo is unnecessarily long. The first half is as good as irrelevant as nothing interesting happens and the leisurely narrative coupled with loose script make the process slow and boring. The film shows some promise in the latter parts of the second half but again becomes predictable with a routine climax. The SoorajBarjatya touch is missing here and one also notices a few glitches here and there. There is an overdose of songs which are placed at random. However, the film has generally good score. Four of the songs have popular appeal. Sets are good and are well exploited by the cinematographer.

The film is all about Salman and he dominates the screen throughout. Though the Vijay part is brief compared to Prem, Salman juxtaposes both parts very well. What ails the film is the total lack of chemistry between Salman and Sonam and the latter’s limitations as an actor, the fact which makes the romance hard to believe. Anupam lends credibility to his character of a loyal diwan. Neil has a smaller role and limited scope. Deepak, Swara and Ashika are okay. Armaan fails to make a mark.

PremRatanDhanPayo may interest audiences away from metros with multiplex crowd soon tapering out. The film has opened to full houses all over and is expected to cross 40 crore mark on day one (released on Thursday), but it faces an uphill task with a price tag of 135 crore.

‘Chal Bhaag’ slated for release next week

NEW DELHI: It is rare that a director heeds the advice of his cast members about a film, but Prakash Saini surprised all when he agreed after a screening of his film ‘Chal Bhaag’ along with his crew to remove certain scenes on the advice of his main actor Deepak Dobriyal.

‘Chal Bhaag’ is a film that highlights the plight of those who have served their prison sentences but continue to be defamed or ostracized by society, ‘Chal Bhaag’, is slated for release next week on 13 June.

The film is an action comedy directed by Prakash Saini. The story revolves around three prisoners and the situations they land in.

A production venture of Alimoh Films, it stars Deepak Dobriyal, Mukesh Tiwari, Tarun Bajaj, Keeya Khanna, and Varun Mehra in the main roles.

‘Chal Bhaag’ is the story of three troublemakers: Munna Supari, Bunty Chor and Daler Singh Tadipaar. The three find themselves in prison, facing the wrath of the vengeful inspector. When they learn that they`re only being released so they can be killed, the three must band together in order to survive’, the director said during a press meet.

Deepak Dobriyal added, “This film, I would say is obviously not very different from the films that made earlier but It does highlight the present scenario of our system and shows persons suffer sometime even after undergoing their sentences. The audience will enjoy this roller coaster ride kind story of the film.”

  • A ‘Sooper se Ooper’ launch of Jigsaw Pictures into feature films

A ‘Sooper se Ooper’ launch of Jigsaw Pictures into feature films

MUMBAI: Having produced over 150 television commercials, music videos and even a critically acclaimed short film, The Fall (starring Rahul Bose), production house Jigsaw Pictures is now venturing into feature films with their first commercial film Sooper Se Ooper. This quirky drama with Vir Das in lead has been co produced with Reliance Entertainment and is scheduled to come to theatres across India on 25 October, 2013.

Jigsaw Pictures CEO and creative producer Rajnish Lall has had over nine years of experience in advertising, having worked in Clarion, Contract & Bates and thereafter headed the marketing division at B4U shortly after. He then founded Jigsaw Pictures about eight years ago and will debut as a creative producer and the line producer of Sooper se Ooper. He is among a few who is comfortably straddling the productions both in the TV commercials and feature films.

On his first production, Rajnish said, “Working on this film was like taking a fresh guard in the field of production… it has been an amazing, exciting and rich experience in the last two years. From fine tuning the script, putting together the right cast and technical team of my choice, the extensive shoot in Rajasthan and Mumbai to production of lovely songs all within a modest budget has been a Sooper se Ooper experience! In this journey we had the support and guidance of a big studio like Reliance Entertainment.”

The movie Sooper se Ooper is based on an Indian superstition ‘that making a will (legal document) is an indication that that your time has come near’. The story revolves around the character of Vir Das, whose fortune has dwindled and selling his ancestral property may just be the way out of the situation but he runs into a problem as the ancestral land was not will-ed to him by his parents. Filmed in Rajasthan and Mumbai, the story takes an interesting and entertaining turn during the journey from village to city and vice-versa.

The film stars Vir Das, Gulshan Grover, Deepak Dobriyal, Kirti Kulhari and Yashpal Sharma, among others. The music has been composed by Sonu Niigam and Bickram Ghosh who debut as a music duo in Hindi films and has quirky fusion BGM from Ranjit Barot. The director, a veteran of TV commercials also makes his debut with this film. The film is being presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Jigsaw Pictures.

Jigsaw Pictures’ next feature production is a comic thriller set in Mumbai and Kerala, which they will start shooting in April 2014.

  • A love story not worth telling on screen

A love story not worth telling on screen

Producer: Sunil Bohra, Shailesh R Singh, Kiran Kumar Koneru
    Director: Ram GopalVarma
Cast: Mahi Gill, Deepak Dobriyal, Ajay Gehi, Prableen Sandhu, Zakir Hussain, Darshan Jariwala

Mumbai: Love, adultery, jealousy and the resultant crime are factors as old as the puranas. Then why wait for a real life incident that created a major scandal and grabbed headlines in all the media?

May be the idea was exactly to cash in on all that publicity the said scandal generated and also to avail of a ready story. Unfortunately, that is the major drawback of Not A Love Story.

Not A Love Story is a cinematic narrative of the infamous Neeraj Grover murder, the media judgements and the court case that followed on a Kannada actor wanting to make it big in Hindi films and her boyfriend.

Mahi Gill, aspiring to be a film actress, descends in Mumbai after convincing her overzealous boyfriend, Deepak Dobriyal, that if she fails to make it, she will return in a few months. And if she succeeds, he could also join her in Mumbai.

After some mandatory struggle, she bags a lead role, thanks to the production company‘s head, Ajay Gehi, who roots for her. The two with other friends hit a pub to celebrate her break, after which Gehi lands up at her house for ‘one for the road‘. Intoxicated, he has a personal sob story to tell Gill, and, as a drunk and emotional woman would do, she lends him a shoulder, eventually both ending up in bed.

Next morning, before they could gather themselves, her boyfriend, Dobriyal, is at her door and sees a naked man on her bed. To absolve herself she cries rape and, on an impulse, Dobriyal kills Gehi. The law catches up and the film ends sans final court verdict.

So what is so inspiring about this story, real or otherwise, to base a film on? Are people interested still in that beaten to death story? Does not seem so looking at the attendance at cinema halls on day one, show one. In that case, should one conclude that Ram Gopal Varma may have felt that his ‘treatment‘ backed with a powerful background score would elevate the story to dramatic heights? On the first count, that of treatment, the answer is no, it is still a documentary on a real life event; as for the powerful background score, it has been wasted on this film. Performance wise, Deepak Dobriyal and Zakir Hussain are the only ones to make an impact; rest are okay.

Not A Love Story is a love story which was not worth telling on a screen by any name. There is nothing or no one you empathise with in this film.

Chatur Singh Two Star is poor in all respects

    Producer: Mohamad Aslam
    Director: Ajay Chandhok.
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Ameesha Patel, Anupam Kher, Gulshan Grover, Shakti Kapoor, Satish Kaushik, Rati
    Agnihotri,Mushtaq Khan,Vishwajeet Pradhan.

Mumbai: It must have seemed like a bright idea adapting the bumbling French police detective Jacques Clouseau of the famous Pink Panther series. The makers may even have wondered why no one thought of it when they decided to model Chatur Singh Two Star on this popular theme which went on for 11 film or TV versions.

Sanjay Dutt is a two star police detective inspector with bumbling ways and foolish notions; in short he is anything but Chatur (smart) a la detective Clouseau. His sidekick, Suresh Menon, is Clouseau‘s Chinese major domo.

Sanjay Dutt earns a two-week suspension for his detection abilities leading to putting a tycoon‘s son behind bars. However, when an ailing politician, Gulshan Grover, opts for hospital instead of jail after faking a heart attack, his boss, Anupam Kher, recalls Sanjay Dutt for the simple task of guarding him in hospital. But Dutt continues his foolhardy ways sniffing around like a spy he has read about in cheap paperback fictions.

The writer and director feel the need to bring in some sort of story at this juncture. The politician, Gulshan Grover, is shot dead by a sniper from across the hospital room. His secretary, Ameesha Patel, is suspected of being the killer and escapes to South Africa thanks to Sanjay Dutt‘s help, and on him falls the job to trace her and bring her to book.

The scene moves to South Africa locales where some more funny characters are introduced in the form of Satish Kaushik, an ex-don gone bananas, his side kick, Shakti Kapoor, who has now taken over as the new don and speech impaired cabbie, Mushtaque Khan. The idea is to trace Rs 5 billion worth of diamonds Gulshan Grover has placed in the custody of Satish Kaushik. What follows is utterly predictable with climax being the kind seen in half a dozen films in recent times.

Having chosen a totally performance-based subject requiring an actor of immense talent who can make people laugh without making any conscious effort, the makers add to their blunder by casting Sanjay Dutt who is expressionless rather than deadpan. He resorts to ineffective buffoonery.

Ameesha Patel has no contribution to make. As for other capable actors, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Shakti Kapoor, Mushtaque Khan and Suresh Memon, who have carried off comic roles ably earlier, are unable to do
much in the absence of funny scenes or dialogue. In fact, the writing is banal and juvenile. Direction is below par. Musical score is a liability and adds to the tedium.

Chatur Singh Two Star is poor in all respects.

  • Susairaj sends notice to Ram Gopal Varma

Susairaj sends notice to Ram Gopal Varma

MUMBAI: In a notice through a Court, Maria Susairaj has asked Ram Gopal Varma to show her his soon-to-be released film, Not A Love Story, before releasing it.

Susairaj suspects that the film will portray her in bad light.

Not A Love Story is said to be inspired by the Neeraj Grover murder case in which Susairaj was one of the two prime accused. The former Kannada actress‘s lawyer in a statement has said that the film is based on his client and if that is true, her consent needs to be taken.

“We have asked him to show the film before the release. If he does not, we will file a suit and the court will decide whether the movie can be released or not,” said Susairaj ‘s lawyer Sherif Sheikh.

Meanwhile, Varma has refused to show the movie.”I will not show my film to Maria as I have repeatedly said that my film is just inspired by the incident and not completely based on her. There are so many differences in the film from the real life incident,” Varma said.

“My heroine is not a South Indian actress and her fiancee is not in Navy as in real case. Also, the film is just an interpretation of what could have happened and not a reporting on what actually happened. No one was there to know what the reality is. This is not her story and I am not showing the film to her,” he added.

Starring Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi in stellar roles, the film is scheduled to release on 19 August.
