    Kiaran Saunders joins A+E Networks

    NEW DELHI: Nicklodeon UK vice president and commercial director Kiaran Saunders has joined A+E Networks VP of EMEA.

     

    Saunders has joined the company in a senior strategic role within its own EMEA operations responsible for A+E Networks’ growth strategy, branded channels and digital distribution across the region.

     

    He will take charge from Liz Higgins, who has joined News UK as commercial development director, and report to MD Dean Possenniskie.

     

    Meanwhile, Jon Wildman has been hired in the newly created role of VP ad sales for EMEA.

     

    The announcement was made by A+E Networks EMEA MD Possenniskie to whom both will report.

     

    At Nickelodeon, Saunders was responsible for managing distribution activity, advertising sales, and business development.

     

    Earlier, he held senior corporate development and finance positions at Channel 4 and RSM Robson Rhodes.

     

    Saunders assumes his new role from September.

    BBC Worldwide channels are now available in Poland

    MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide has announced that its channel portfolio, including BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge and CBeebies, are available in Poland through Telekomunikacja Polska.

    Customers will be able to access the channels via their telephone line as part of TP’s triple play offer. The channels are available through the IPTV service. The channels debuted last December on the Cyfrowy Polsat platform and currently have over 1.7 million subscribers.

    BBC Worldwide Channels GM, senior VP EMEA Dean Possenniskie said, “I am delighted that we are able to build on the distribution of our BBC-branded channels to audiences in Poland through this partnership with TP. The channels have already proven a success since their launch last year and we will be announcing further distribution deals in the future.”

  • BBC expanding channels presence across Europe

    MUMBAI: BBC Global Channels – one of six BBC Worldwide businesses – has chosen Poland as the first European territory to launch its new suite of BBC-branded thematic channels. Its partner is Polish satellite platform Cyfrowy Polsat.

    Poland was identified by the business as a priority market for channel expansion and, teaming up with Cyfrowy Polsat, represents the first time that all four new channels – BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies – have rolled out in one market at the same time.

    The channels will debut in Poland on 2 December and will be available on satellite exclusively for subscribers of Cyfrowy Polsat as part of the platform’s Family package.

    BBC Global Channels senior VP Europe, Miiddle East and Africa Dean Possenniskie says, “I am delighted with the long term carriage agreement we now have in place with Poland’s most successful DTH platform, Cyfrowy Polsat.     MTV International appoints Bhavneet Singh as dy GM emerging markets group

    MUMBAI: In a move that reflects MTV Networks International (MTVNI) expanded portfolio of businesses in Europe, Bhavneet Singh has been promoted to deputy general manager of the fast expanding emerging markets group.

    In this role, Singh will manage almost 21 channels by the end of 2006, informs an official release.

    Singh will be responsible for all aspects of the business across the music channel MTV and the kids’ channel Nickelodeon and Comedy brands in central eastern Europe and Middle East with a specific focus on development and establishing brands across the emerging markets as well as new platforms, such as broadband (overdrive), mobile and the youth community website Neopets.

    Prior to his appointment, Singh previously served as international sales strategy director, for the corporate strategy group with in MTVNI working across all international markets.

    The new role will be based in London and he will report to MTV Networks International GM and VP emerging markets group Dean Possenniskie.

    Possenniskie commented; “Having, grown the EM business at a rapid rate, my energy, drive and focus continues with exciting plans for the emerging markets Group, with Bhavneet on board the further channel expansion in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Central Asia will be supported by him and his team. I’m confident that with his diverse business, commercial and strategy experience Bhavneet will be a huge success within emerging Markets”.

    Singh (32), whose promotion is effective immediately, has been with MTV Networks since 2004, has earlier worked for Manchester United PLC and has commercial experience working as director sales at IMG TWI in India, apart from being head of ad-sales at Discovery Channel in Asia. Bhavneet also holds an MBA from Manchester Business School.
