  • Johnson’s Baby launches second edition of ‘Protection Pehle Din Se

Johnson’s Baby launches second edition of ‘Protection Pehle Din Se

Mumbai – Johnson’s baby launches its latest television campaign titled ‘Irresistible Cheeks’ under the broader campaign ‘Protection Pehle Din Se’*. Featuring Bollywood’s father daughter duo Anil and Sonam Kapoor, the film highlights Johnson’s promise to protect from day 1 with its iconic moisturising cream designed with purposeful ingredients and tested by doctors.

Conceptualised by DDB and produced by Flirting Vision, the new film captures a fun acting face-off between Anil Kapoor, playing the role of a doting grandfather, and a baby. A film told from a baby’s perspective shows Anil pulling the baby’s soft cheeks. What follows is a fun banter between Anil and his reel grandson, as the baby resists and puts up an act every time his cheeks are pulled.

Sonam Kapoor steps in revealing the secret to the baby’s soft and smooth skin—Johnson’s baby cream. Enriched with chamomile extracts and naturally derived glycerin, Johnson’s baby provides long lasting protection from dryness from day 1.

Commenting on the new film, business unit head-essential health & vice president marketing Manoj Gadgil said, “Johnson’s® baby has partnered with parents to provide the best for babies. A newborn’s skin is 30% thinner compared to adults and loses moisture faster. As a brand which has a deep understanding of baby skin science, our latest campaign ‘Protection Pehle Din Se’* highlights the importance of moisturizing baby’s delicate skin from Day 1 and superiority of our products to protect baby’s skin against dryness to retain its softness.

Then, how can you not pull those irresistible cheeks.”

Flirting Vision director Benny Malik said, “Having directed many Johnson’s Baby campaigns, shooting with a baby in front of a camera is always full of surprises. One never knows when we get the right shot, but I have no issues in becoming a friend or a clown to bring the best expressions from the baby! And the magic happens, like always.”

The TVC is set to air on television channels nationwide in 9 languages, as well as on digital platforms and multimedia channels.

The inception of BotHard underscores how real human talent in the musical genre of rapping remains unrivalled—with skill, practice, and finer nuances of musicality, technique, and performance.

The stage of Realme MTV Hustle 2.0, co-powered by Wild Stone’s new classic range and produced by Fremantle Media, has been grooming raw talent into industry-ready professionals since its premiere.

Speaking on the initiative, Viacom 18 head of youth, music, and English entertainment cluster Anshul Ailawadi said, “MTV has always been about bold visions and big moves. ‘BotHard’ is an example of disruptive, transmedia storytelling that complements the raison d’être for Realme MTV Hustle 2.0. With the confluence of avant-garde technology and a multi-platform approach, we developed ‘BotHard’, a first-of-its-kind AI-powered rapper, to further put the spotlight on real, unmatched talent curated by Realme MTV Hustle 2.0.”

Speaking from the creative perspective, DDB Mudra Group chief creative officer Rahul Mathew said, “While this idea is built on cutting-edge technology, the most exciting part for us was how true it had to stay to hip-hop culture for it to be accepted by the audience. It lives at the right intersection of culture, creativity, and technology.”

The AI-powered rapper challenged some of the biggest names in the industry, across the globe. The bot also made an appearance on the show, battling the talent on Realme MTV Hustle 2.0. BotHard has piqued the curiosity of fans and audiences alike, who can challenge the bot to bust a rhyme (pun intended) on any word!

  • Throwback Thursdays: A look back at game-changer ad campaigns over the years

Mumbai: IndianTelevision.com kicks off its Throwback Thursdays series where we go into flashback mode to revisit brilliant ad campaigns created over the years – one campaign at a time. Be it in Print, Television, or Digital (in the recent past)- the medium is irrelevant so long as the messaging was crystal clear and the execution fantastic.

And what better campaign to kickstart with, than one considered by many ad gurus as one of the greatest ad campaigns of all times – and one that broke new ground and changed the rules of the game.

It’s the 1960s ‘Think Small‘ ad campaign for the Volkswagen Beetle.

    Product: Volkswagen Beetle car

    Agency: Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB)

    Country: United States

    Year: 1959

Think Small was one of the most famous ads in the advertising campaign for the Volkswagen Beetle, art-directed by Helmut Krone, the copy written by Julian Koenig.

However, there was nothing small about the campaign’s aspirations!

Consider this. The first Beetles arrived in the United States in the 1950s. Volkswagen had hired the Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) ad agency to create a campaign that would introduce the German car to the US market.

A lot was working against the Beetle. It was small and plain in comparison to the big, flashy cars that Americans were obsessed with, at the time. Also, it was awkwardly shaped (which later led to it being dubbed the “Beetle”). And to make matters worse for its sellers, this was at a time when following World War II the anti-German sentiment was at a high. The initial reception to the car was expectedly lukewarm.

Here’s how an ad agency changed the car’s fate.

In 1960, DDB launched a game-changing campaign called “Think Small”, that promoted the car’s diminutive size as a distinct advantage to consumers.

The black & white campaign encouraged drivers to “Think Small.” DDB revolved the print campaigns around the car’s ‘small’ form and focussed on minimalism. It contradicted the traditional association of automobiles with luxury and big size, keeping simplicity at its core.

This is why most of the print ads from this campaign and others that followed had a lot of empty white space with a small, stark picture of a Beetle, followed by a copy that matter-of-factly listed the compact car’s advantages in an irreverent, even self-deprecating manner.

Each ad that followed in the series stood on its own, highlighting the car’s strengths while not trying to hide its possible weakness. And they were so cleverly done that they left the readers keen to watch out for the next one.

Even more notably, the ads were modestly unpretentious and emphasised as much on the intelligence, frugality, and essence of the Beetle’s buyer as they did on the car itself. The smart copy asking ‘Do you earn too much to afford one’, is a case in point- implying that don’t let your money (or its excess thereof) come in the way of buying a good car!

This tone of dry humour became a hallmark of Volkswagen Beetle ads, even later in its Television commercials. The ads effectively made the case for why owning a small, oddly-shaped car (in other words: thinking small) actually made sense, managing to show the consumer the bigger picture.

And the rest, as they say, is history or rather the stuff that advertising lore is made up of.

The Volkswagen Beetle Print Ads shook the automobile industry and the marketing landscape of the 1960s and over the next several years, VW became the top-selling auto-import in the US.

Doyle Dane Bernbach’s Volkswagen Beetle campaign was ranked as the best advertising campaign of the twentieth century by Ad Age, in a survey of North American advertisements.

The distinctive but simple print campaign and the equally brilliant ones that followed it, brought widespread attention to the car, imbibing the Beetle in pop culture for years to come.

It did much more than boost sales and build a lifetime of brand loyalty. The ad, and the work of the creative minds behind it, changed the very nature of advertising, becoming known as one of the most legendary campaigns of all time.

Rohitash Srivastava named Planning Head, Ogilvy North

MUMBAI: Ogilvy Gurugram has appointed Rohitash Srivastava as the head of its planning unit. Rohitash was previously the National head of Planning at Orchard Advertising, based in Bangalore.

An alumnus of SRCC and MICA, Rohitash has explored the domain of strategy from various perspectives. As a communication planner in agencies like DDB, McCann and Leo Burnett; as a strategy consultant when he co-founded Water Consulting (now Interbrand India); and as an experience strategist when he led the function for SapientNitro in India.

Rohitash believes in solutions that are powered by creativity and his portfolio also reflects this belief and diversity of experience – with work for brands like Amazon, Saffola, Thums Up, Limca; digital acts for British Airways, Nestle, Grants Whisky or even digital transformation programs for clients like the Taj Group of Hotels. His work has been awarded multiple times at the Effies (including the Grand Effie), APAC Effies, WARC and features in the Facebook India case study playbook.

Kapil Arora, President, Ogilvy North:  Getting a multi-faceted planning lead like Rohitash on board, is in line with the One-Ogilvy approach to building brands, with strategic planning stringing together our channel-agnostic thinking and solutions. I’m looking forward to working with Rohitash in our Gurugram office, as he brings in an infectious energy, an envious track record and our shared passion for the creative product, as a means to deliver on client business objectives.

Prem Narayan, Ogilvy India Planning lead: Clients today are looking for seamless end to end marketing solutions. An ideal strategic planner needs to have core brand building skills to craft big culture shaping brand ideas and have a sharp understanding of new media, data and technology to create great brand experiences. In Rohitash, we have some one who straddles both brilliantly. What I found refreshing in him is his ability to 'simplify', in a marketing world that is getting rather complicated. Above all, he is a happy person who we feel will build a happy culture. That is very important for us at Ogilvy.

On his part, Rohitash sees his move to Ogilvy as an opportunity to further unleash the potential of its impressive portfolio of clients. He says, Even before I started a conversation with Ogilvy, I was aware that they have a huge leverage with clients, a great culture and and some of the best talent in the country. What I wasn't prepared for, was to meet a bunch of people who were unanimously obsessed about just one thing – their product. I am excited to be part of this team and my ambition for Ogilvy North is to build a cutting edge strategy team that further sharpens the work and leads to client solutions that help build business.
