    Govt allocates DD Kisan Rs 12.05 crore for FY’22: I&B minister Anurag Thakur

    Mumbai: The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Anurag Singh Thakur on Tuesday said that the government has allocated a total of Rs 12.05 crore to DD Kisan in financial year 2022-23, which is being utilised for farmers’ education.

    While answering a question asked by a politician and Lok Sabha member from Gujarat during the parliament session, the minister highlighted different initiatives the government is taking to educate farmers and build their capacity by imparting new knowledge.

    The I&B minister noted that Prasar Bharti’s 24×7 satellite TV channel “DD Kisan” is exclusively dedicated to the farmers and the agriculture sector. “The objective of this channel is to serve and educate farmers and build their capacity to use new technologies in their activities and extend its reach to the remotest parts of the country,” he added.

    “The programmes of “DD Kisan” are designed to inform and educate the rural populace and work towards creating a holistic environment for sustainable and inclusive growth,” he added.

    The minister further explained that Krishi Darshan, the field-based stories on technologies in agriculture, major events and success stories, is telecast five days a week and Gaon Kisan, field-based stories on animal husbandry and agripreneurs, is telecast five days a week.

    The programme Krishi Darshan is being telecast on 20 DD Channels in 12 languages, including Hindi. Prasar Bharati also has a dedicated YouTube channel for DD Kisan where the viewers may access this channel and also its various programmes digitally across the globe.

    Further, All India Radio broadcasts a 30-minute, six days a week, dedicated interactive programme, Kisanvani, in respective regional languages, over 96 AIR stations across the country and Kisan Ki Baat programme over FM Gold Channel in Delhi, for the farming community in collaboration with the ministry of agriculture & farmers’ welfare, the government of India, he also added.

    Thakur also mentioned the government’s effort to analyse the utilisation of dedicated channels for farmers.

    He further replied, “the impact of the DD Kisan Channel is regularly monitored through feedback from the farmers during field-based and interactive recording, and from toll-free lines provided for farmers.”

    “The regular analysis and impact of the channel are also done by the scientists and experts from ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) and KVKs (Krishi Vigyan Kendras), etc.,” he added further.

    MUMBAI: Pubcaster Prasar Bharati, in an attempt to reach out to people in the “media dark” region, may be distributing for free around a million direct- to-home (DTH) set-top boxes in Naxal-hit areas of India an official has said.

    Besides a dedicated DD channel for Chhattisgarh, union minister of information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu stated that a high-power transmitter would be commissioned in Jagdalpur (Bastar district headquarter) which would beam signal of AIR Jagdalpur to a radius of 200 km.

    A proposal by the public broadcaster stated that 5-10 lakh units of DTH STBs will be given away for free to people in areas suffering due to left-wing extremism, PTI reported. A senior information and broadcasting ministry confirmed that they would distribute the STBs in naxal-infested areas.

    Addressing an event in Raipur recently, Naidu had said that such an initiative would help people in tribal and remote areas of naxal-hit states to connect with government’s various development schemes. Naidu also said that the government would distribute 10,000 free DTH STBs in tribal and remote areas of Chhattisgarh.

    The measure would help people in Naxal-hit areas to watch about 100 television channels for free.

  • Jharkhand to get DD channel, DD Bihar to show Ranchi feed till then

    NEW DELHI: A separate 24×7 Doordarshan channel is being launched shortly for Jharkhand, the information & broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu has said.

    The Government is putting up a vision document for the Jharkhand channel for the people of the state and the proposal was included in the three years Action Plan of DD.

    However till the launch of the channel, DD Ranchi programmes would be telecast on DD Bihar. Jharkhand related programmes would be provided a special window in already available 24×7 satellite channel — DD Bihar.

    The Minister was speaking at a review meeting of the programs & initiatives of Ministry held at Ranchi, Jharkhand today. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das was also present during the review meeting.

    While giving an overview of issues discussed during the review meeting, Naidu said the Jharkhand Government has been requested to provide a dedicated power supply through separate feeders to All India Radio & Doordarshan Stations in the state. He mentioned that action was being taken to cover all shadow areas of Koderma region by December 2018, to ensure 100% coverage of all geographic regions in the state by DD & AIR.

    Naidu also complimented the state government for receiving the Special Mention Award in the Most Film Friendly State Award category at the 64th National Film Awards. He said that such appreciation would encourage state government to establish the profile of the state as the best filming destination.
