ZEE to broadcast DP World ILT20 Season 3 featuring David Warner with Dubai Capitals

Mumbai: ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, the official broadcaster of DP World ILT20, is all set to commence the third edition of the tournament on 11 January 2025, featuring Australian cricketing icon David Warner for his second season with the Dubai Capitals. While the team achieved a runner-up finish in the tournament’s previous edition, Warner is determined to play a greater role in building on that success in 2025 – Season 3. Reflecting on the tournament’s unique structure, he highlighted its impact on raising the level of competition and providing invaluable opportunities for local talent. As the new season approaches, Warner remains committed to sharing his extensive experience and supporting the growth of UAE cricket.

Warner opined that the Dubai International Stadium – Dubai Capitals’ home ground is amongst his favourite venues in the world He said, “The best thing about the venue is the atmosphere. Once you’re inside and the fans are here supporting the game, it’s loud, it’s electrifying, and there is also the light display and everything that comes with it. The aesthetics are absolutely fantastic.”

Warner further lauded the wicket dynamics and ground dimensions, “The best thing I like here is the wicket. It can be challenging at first, but once you get through the initial phase, you can play more freely. The boundary dimensions are something I love, in Australia, we don’t get that. The MCG is so big, but here the grounds are perfect for a batsman. The pockets can be a little big, but I just like playing here. It’s always good. If you get through the new ball, you can be there at the end.” he opined.

On the unique squad composition at the DP World ILT20 that mandates each team can feature as many as nine international players besides a minimum of two players from the United Arab Emirates, the hard-hitting southpaw remarked, “It’s rare to have the opportunity where such great talent from around the world mixes with local talent. I think it’s a great experience for the local players, but more importantly, it strengthens the competition, which is incredibly fierce. It’s highly competitive, and everyone talks about it—in Australia and other countries as well. They’re all discussing this tournament and always want to be part of it.”

As the third season approaches, ZEE Entertainment is all set to bring exhilarating action to fans through its linear channels and OTT platform, ZEE5, in a dynamic and immersive way. Commenting on this exciting announcement, Ashish Sehgal, Chief Growth Officer – Digital & Broadcast Revenue, Zee Entertainment Enterprise Limited said, “We are thrilled that David Warner is back to head Dubai Capitals for the third season! The last season saw his entry into the DP World ILT20 boosting the tournament’s global appeal and his continuing as Captain will ensure that the third season is bigger and better and more competitive than ever before. The inclusion of nine international players in the team promises high-class cricket with an entertaining sporting carnival experience that combines at a relaxed, luxurious venue to cricket fans with unparalleled entertainment. With the return of world-class players of David Warne’s calibre, this season promises to be bigger and better and more competitive, resonating strongly with cricket fans across India and beyond. Building on last’s season remarkable response, we aim to continue the momentum in broadcasting excellence and fan engagement.”

As a legend of the game with 49 international centuries across all formats, Warner also shed light on the next phase of his career, “This game has given me everything, and it’s upon myself to give the game back because it owes me nothing. I owe everything to the people who have supported me, and my main focus is to keep generating cricketers to come up through the ranks, participate in tournaments like this, and continue evolving as a leader, making sure I’m giving my knowledge back to the youngsters.”

He further added, “It’s not just a game for the young. You can play at my age as well, but you’ve got to stay fit and keep up with the youngsters.”

Addressing the Capitals’ and DP World ILT20 fans, Warner expressed, “I encourage everyone to come out and support the teams—whichever team it may be. The best part is that you get to see exciting talent, both from around the world and locally. It’s a big spectacle, so please go out, purchase some tickets, and enjoy some entertaining cricket.”

On his previous season with the Dubai Capitals, that also marked his debut at the DP World ILT20, the opening batter said, “I enjoyed the competition. It was challenging from an opening batter’s perspective and good for the bowlers. I think the way we fought and came back strongly towards the end of the tournament was fantastic.”

Cricket fans and sports enthusiasts in India and around the world can watch the LIVE action exclusively on ZEE’s 15 linear TV channels, OTT platform ZEE5 and its syndicate partners’ TV and digital networks across the world.

Through the tournament, Zee Entertainment is aiming for an even larger audience in its third season, targeting 230-million viewers. The strategies being employed to increase its footprints are multifaceted, focusing on the Indian market, which includes cricket lovers, advertisers, and the addition of South Indian channels.

Earlier this year, ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) reported that the league’s second season reached 221 million viewers. The channel’s extensive distribution strategy ensured widespread accessibility in India and across the globe. With a notable 46% share of female viewership and 55% share of youth viewership, the league’s broad appeal in India underscores its status.

    Greenpanel launches its new TVC

Mumbai: Greenpanel has announced the launch of its new TVC, featuring Delhi Capitals’ commendable players ‒ Rishabh Pant, David Warner, and Anrich Nortje. The commercial launch is a part of the brand’s association with the IPL franchise as its principal sponsor. It is a strategic marketing move aimed at increasing brand visibility and amplifying marketing initiatives while leveraging IPL sponsorship.

Crafted by (L&K Saatchi & Saatchi), this television commercial adopts a whimsical and light-hearted tone, offering viewers a peek into the entertaining chaos behind the scenes of an ad shoot. From navigating unexpected challenges to witnessing moments of camaraderie among the cast and crew, the commercial captures the essence of the filmmaking process. It humorously portrays the efforts of the crew in guiding the players out of their comfort zones to deliver authentic performances. The TVC culminates with a clever analogy drawn by the players, likening their newfound acting prowess to the water-resistant qualities of Greenpanel’s HDWR MDF boards, cleverly weaving in the brand’s messaging. (the tagline/messaging: MDF Ka Doosra Naam)

The integrated marketing plan for the commercial launch includes a combination of ATL, BTL, and digital initiatives. A high-frequency campaign has been curated to promote the commercial which is live on prominent television channels and OTT platforms and will run throughout the IPL season. Aligned with the ongoing elections, the brand has secured impactful and prime advertising spots on renowned TV channels for both polling and election days. In the digital space, Greenpanel has launched paid campaigns on social media and developed digital films featuring the players. It is also promoting the partnership and TVC launch through social media marketing. Additionally, the brand has a strong on-ground presence via POSM and stadium and merchandise branding in Delhi Capitals’ home matches.

Greenpanel VP, marketing Arvind Joshi said, “This time around, we’ve opted for a fresh and innovative approach by conceptualizing the commercial in a behind-the-scenes (BTS) format. We hope this will be a fresh kind of viewing experience and will break the clutter. Our latest TVC showcases our superior quality product offering and talks about our water resistant HDWR boards and reinforces Greenpanel’s leadership position.”

Director Shayak Roy added “It was the first and the best 1 hour of shooting of my life. Kudos to the team at Greenpanel for buying into such a fun idea which probably many brands at their level wouldn’t have dared to take up. Cheers to everyone involved, when all the parties are aligned it’s always a six.”

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi CCO Rohit Malkani: “After the hilarious and hugely popular Greenpanel IPL film last year, the pressure was back on to do another winner. We had Greenpanel toss us a product (Greenpanel Water resistant HDWR) that started off an explosion of fun ideas. But finally, we honed in on a film-in-film technique that uses Delhi Capital players to do what they’re best at, having fun!”

  • ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – Who is Your Favourite?

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – Who is Your Favourite?

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is the biggest event in the cricketing calendar, and it will be held in India from October 8 to November 19. Ten teams will compete for the coveted trophy, which was last won by England in 2019. India, the hosts, and the two-time champions are widely regarded as the favorites for the title, as they have a formidable batting lineup, a balanced bowling attack, and a home advantage.

However, who will win? Is your pick (or picks!) the undisputed favorites, or are there other contenders who can challenge them? In this blog post, we will analyze how each team fares and who is your favorite to win the title.

India: The Hosts and The Favourites

India is undoubtedly one of the strongest favorites of the betting app providers to win the World Cup, as they have a formidable batting lineup, a balanced bowling attack, and home advantage. Led by Rohit Sharma, India boasts of players like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, who can dominate any opposition on their day. India has also been consistent in ICC tournaments, reaching the semi-finals or finals in six of the last seven editions. India has won the World Cup twice, in 1983 and 2011, and will be aiming to repeat the feat on home soil.

India’s experience and leadership are also key factors that make them a formidable team. They have players who have played in many international matches and tournaments. They also have players who have won the World Cup before, like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They have a calm and composed captain Rohit Sharma, who leads by example and motivates his teammates.

    Australia: The Five-Time Champions

Australia is another team that cannot be taken lightly, as they have a history of winning the World Cup five times, more than any other team. Australia has a powerful batting lineup, featuring players like David Warner, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne, and Mitchell Marsh. Their bowling unit is also formidable, with players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood. Australia has also been in good form recently, winning the ODI series against India and South Africa earlier this year. Australia will be looking to bounce back from their semi-final exit in 2019 and reclaim their glory in 2023.

    Pakistan: The Unpredictable Team

Pakistan is a team that can surprise anyone with its unpredictable performances. Pakistan has a talented squad, with players like Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali. Pakistan also has a reputation for performing well in ICC tournaments, as they won the Champions Trophy in 2017 and reached the final of the World T20 in 2009 and 2007. Pakistan has also won the World Cup once, in 1992, under the inspirational leadership of Imran Khan. Pakistan will be hoping to emulate their success in 1992 and end their long wait for another World Cup title.

Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman are likely to open the innings, followed by Mohammad Rizwan at number three. Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez can bat at number four and five respectively, while Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf can provide the finishing touches at number six and seven. Sarfaraz Ahmed can also be included as a wicket-keeper batsman who can bat anywhere in the order.

    England: The Defending Champions

England is the defending champion of the World Cup, having won their maiden title in 2019 in a thrilling final against New Zealand. England has a dynamic batting lineup, with players like Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Moeen Ali. Their bowling unit is also impressive, with players like Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, and Sam Curran. England has also been consistent in ODI cricket in recent years, winning a series against India, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. England will be aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back World Cups since Australia in 2003 and 2007.

    New Zealand: The Dark Horse

New Zealand is a team that has always punched above its weight in ICC tournaments. New Zealand has a balanced squad, with players like Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Ross Taylor, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee. New Zealand has also been in excellent form recently, winning the inaugural World Test Championship against India and reaching the final of the T20 World Cup in 2021. New Zealand has also reached the final of the last two ODI World Cups but lost both times to Australia and England. New Zealand will be hoping to go one step further in 2023 and win their first-ever World Cup title.

They have players who have played in many international matches and tournaments. They also have players who have reached the final of the last two ODI World Cups, like Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee.

    Conclusion

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament, with each team having its chance of winning the title. While India and Australia are the obvious favorites, Pakistan and England are also strong contenders, and New Zealand is always a dark horse. Who is your favorite to win the World Cup?

  • IPL team owners don’t expect much from mid-season transfers

IPL team owners don’t expect much from mid-season transfers

MUMBAI: For the first time in its history, the IPL will witness mid-season transfers introduced by the governing council, allowing players to switch to a new team. There are, however, certain conditions for a player to be eligible for the transfer window.

The transfer window is currently active and started from match 28 till match 42—which will culminate in each of the teams completing half their IPL campaign with seven games. During this period, all the players who haven’t got the chance to play or have played up to two games are eligible.

A team owner who didn’t want to be quoted said, “At least this season, I don’t think anything like this is going to happen. Why would somebody want to loan the players out when you know he is going to be a part of all your important strategic meetings and knows how the team is going to play.”

Teams willing to buy or sell a player will be allowed to negotiate and buy their desired players, just like clubs do in football. Players to be transferred can be uncapped, capped or foreign.

In the previous seasons, teams would struggle to keep up with the demanding fixtures. In 2016, Rising Pune Supergiant lost Kevin Pietersen, Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Marsh to injuries leading to a bottom of the table finish.

Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua said, “It will become effective only when you have a lot more players sitting on the bench whether it is international or Indian, capped or uncapped players. It’s a good move in that direction but it needs more wings. There might not be a lot that will happen this year but if more players are added in the future then it will probably work.”

This year, too, many overseas players haven’t played a single game because of injury. Big names such as Pat Cummins (MI), Kagiso Rabada (DD), Mitchell Starc (KKR) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (RCB) have been replaced by Adam Milne, Liam Plunkett, Tom Curran and Corey Anderson, respectively. The ICC’s ban on Steven Smith (RR) and David Warner (SRH) made a place for Heinrich Klaasen and Alex Hales in the team. Indian player Kedar Jadhav got injured in the very first game of this season after a winning knock and was replaced by England all-rounder David Willey.

Going by these guidelines, some big names who will be available for a swap in this transfer window are Adam Milne, JP Duminy (both MI), Sandeep Lamichhane (DD), Carlos Brathwaite (SRH), Moeen Ali (RCB) and David Willey (CSK).

Player like Jofra Archer (RR), Faf du Plessis (CSK), Tim Southee (RCB), Alex Hales (SRH), Marcus Stoinis (KXIP), Chris Jordan (SRH) who have played one or two matches and performed well are likely to be retained by their respective franchises.

MI captain Rohit Sharma has publicly supported the transfers. “The mid-season transfer window will give the teams an opportunity to see what they need in the squad and other teams will also be looking at what players they can get. It completely depends on the franchise if a situation comes when we need to get a player or give a player. It is good for the tournament and will add even more value to it,” he told the Financial Express recently.
