MUMBAI: 59-year-old David Hasselhoff has said that he won‘t be reprising his role as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in the big-screen version of Baywatch but will instead appear as himself. “I‘ve just met the guy writing the film. I‘m going to play myself,” he reportedly said.
The former ‘America‘s Got Talent‘ judge is the only cast member certain to star in film but it is rumoured that Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber may be the others who would also appear in the film.
Hasselhoff, who was one of the star performers at the White Nights of St. Petersburg festival last weekend, added, “There will be certain people in the movie for the original parts and we‘re trying to make it a very cool, updated version.”
The White Nights of St. Petersburg festival took place in St. Petersburg, Russia from July 6 to July 8 and as well as star performers such as David, Anastacia, Natalie.
Pamela Anderson, who played long-running character CJ Lewis in the 90s series, is yet to be confirmed, although the production people hope that she will sign up.

Piranha 3DD to release in India on 15 June
MUMBAI: Film distribution firm Multivision Multimedia is readying to release Piranha 3DD on 15 June across 350 screens in 3D in India.
Produced by Mark Canton and Joel Soisson, Piranha 3DD is the sequel of the 2010 comic-horror Piranha 3D. Like its predecessor, Piranha 3DD not only will be equipped with bone-chilling scares, flesh-eating piranhas and sexy and young victims but it also promises to raise the bar with double the action and double the fun.
The film also boasts of a lot of underwater sequences that will supposedly look more exciting as it comes in 3D.
The film is set in a giant water park, where the blood-thirsty piranhas wreak havoc on the unassuming summer visitors. Piranha 3DD is directed by John Gulager who has earlier directed another horror film called Feast.
Multivision Multimedia director Amit Jethani said, “The movie couldn‘t have been timed better. Piranha 3DD is a fun summer movie that the audiences have been waiting for. We plan to release this across India in English and three Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. We are quite hopeful that the response to the movie will be above our expectations.”
Piranha 3DD stars Christopher Llyod, Katrina Bowden, Ving Rhames, David Koechner, Paul Scheer, Gary Busey, Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush and Chris Zylka along with Baywatch fame David Hasselhoff.

Animal Planet once again looks at ‘Animal Icons’
MUMBAI: Animal Planet which is devoted to the animal world has announced that its show Animal Icons has returned.
The show looks at animals of fact and fiction that have sparked pop culture frenzies and merchandising mammoths for generations. From comic book heroes like Batman to larger-than-life Hollywood giants like King Kong, creative writers and artists have taken endless inspiration from real – but no less remarkable – earth-roaming animals.
Each episode looks at different phenomena – ranging from cartoons to fast cars to holiday tales to cinematic adventures – generated by human fascination with these amazing animals. The show will air every Sunday at 11 pm.
Viewers follow interviews with historians, animal experts and celebrities of the human variation to discover the evolution of real-life animals to extraordinary idols that have captivated the imaginations and adventurous spirits of people for generations.
This season includes appearances by famous personalities like directors Steven Spielberg and John Landis, writer Stan Lee and actors Kurt Russel, David Hasselhoff and Jeff Goldblum. The episode Animated Animals airs on 26 November 2006. America crowns Taylor Hicks its 5th ‘Idol’; viewership hits 35.4 million
MUMBAI: Twenty-nine-year old Taylor Hicks from Alabama beat LA gal Katharine McPhee to be crowned the American Idol in the finale of the fifth season. A whopping 63.4 million votes were cast and America made its choice. According to host Ryan Seacrest, Hicks took the majority of the fan votes, though he did not reveal how close McPhee came.

Hicks now joins the likes of Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino, who have been previous season winners. However, the result of fifth season of American Idol doesn’t come as a surprise as Hicks had wooed TV audiences with his raw singing style and boisterous personality.
Hicks foisted the ubiquitous catchphrase “Soul Patrol!” on an unsuspecting audience and turned it into a national movement. What Hicks has won is an RCA recording contract and his first single will be Do I Make You Proud.

As for the network that airs the show in the US – Fox, the two weekly Idol episodes remain the top-rated shows in the US, raking in tens of millions of dollars for the network.The American Idol seasons have been a ratings goldmine for Fox. The show has continued to rate high even in its fifth season and has given the network the biggest hit in prime time, propelling the broadcaster to first place this season in the ratings race for viewers aged 18 to 49.
‘AMERICAN IDOL’ FINALE DRAWS 35.4 MN VIEWERS
It was not only Taylor Hicks that emerged winner on American Idol’s fifth season finale. Fox, too emerged as a major winner in terms of the ratings it clocked. According to Nielsen Media Research, the finale of Fox’s two-hour American Idol special was a big hit among viewers, drawing an audience of 35.4 million people.
Idol opened at 8 pm with 27.4 million viewers, climbing steadily to a peak of 42.9 million in its final half-hour as Hicks edged past Katharine McPhee to take the crown.
This makes it the second most-watched Idol finale ever behind 2003’s competition, which was watched by 38.1 million viewers. Last year’s contest won by Carrie Underwood was seen by 30.3 million.
In Canada, CTV said the American Idol season finale peaked at 5.2 million viewers when Hicks was announced as winner.
The American Idol TV audience was only about two million viewers shy of the Oscars for being the most-watched television event of the year after the Super Bowl.
What has also added to the popularity and interest levels in American Idol through the seasons is the incessant coverage by the print, internet and television media.
Shows like Entertainment Tonight and Saturday Night Live give constant updates on every twist and turn on Idol. Dedicated websites and blogs have also kept the interest levels high. On the other hand, producers of the show claim that the success of season five came from the fact that they had a particularly good batch of talent.
The finale of the fifth season had plenty of star power with the likes of Ben Stiller, Heather Locklear, Mary J. Blige and David Hasselhoff. What’s more, the Baywatch star got all teary eyed when Hicks was announced the winner. Prince too made a surprise appearance on the show and performed.
After the winner was announced, runner-up McPhee was reportedly quoted as saying that she hadn’t expected to win and didn’t have any regrets.
McPhee said she planned to take a week’s break before heading for the American Idol tour with Hicks and the other finalists.
