  • BBC Prime starts broadcasting in Serbia and Montenegro

    LONDON: BBC Worldwide, the commercial consumer arm of the BBC has announced the broadcast of its flagship entertainment channel, BBC Prime, in Serbia and Montenegro for the first time.
    The announcement follows an agreement signed between BBC Worldwide and major Serbian cable platform, Serbia Broadband (SBB). Through this agreement, BBC Prime is broadcast to over 60,000 SBB subscribers across Serbia and Montenegro.
    BBC Worldwide Director of Channels, Wayne Dunsford, said “Serbia and Montenegro is a new market for BBC Prime so this is an important step in building up our business in this region. We look forward to working with SBB to bring BBC Prime to a growing number of subscribers there.”
    SBB MD Dragan Solak, added, “SBB is dedicated to providing top quality services to its growing subscribers base in Serbia and Montenegro, and we feel that offering BBC Prime to our customers will contribute greatly to variety of programming in our channel bouquet. We believe that there is a high demand in the Serbian market for premium family channels and we expect BBC Prime to gain a strong position in this segment.”
    BBC Prime is broadcast to over 12 million subscribers in more than 100 countries and territories. Over 2200 hours of new programming are transmitted each year, including Parkinson, Top of the Pops, EastEnders, The Weakest Link (adapted here by Star Plus as Kamzor Kadii Kaun). This British cable channel shows award-winning programmes from the BBC. Subtitles are available in English, Hungarian, Czech, Polish, Hebrew, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian.

  • Saira Banu’s ‘Kise Apna Kahein’ on Sahara from 26 May

    MUMBAI: Sahara Manoranjan, the entertainment channel’s fascination for Bollywood continues. With the fate of its magnum opus – Karishma,The Miracles Of Destiny still on tenterhooks, the channel has announced the launch of Kise Apna Kahein, produced by Saira Banu, the popular Bollywood actor of yesteryears.
    The daily soap which debuts on 26 May 2003, will be presented by the living Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar. It will air Monday to Thursday at 10 pm.
    According to an official release, the soap is a social drama which revolves around Noor- a beautiful, educated wealthy girl. The story starts from the conjuncture where Noor gets married to Arshad. Noor like any other girl steps on a journey of love, hate, pain and humiliation with the advent of this new life, where she is face-to-face with the realities of this selfish world.
    Noor discovers that the man she chose as her husband, does not care much for her but is only concerned with the wealth she is going to inherit. It is a triangular relationship of love and hate between Noor , her husband Arshad and her husband’s friend Danish.
    The soap has been directed by Inderjit of Amanat fame. It’s music has been composed by Lalit Sen and title song has been sung by Alka Yagnik, the release adds.

    MUMBAI: Kids channel Cartoon Network has added Hungarian and Romanian to its language services making it available in 11 languages in Europe.

    Starting out as a pan-European channel in 1993, Cartoon Network now has seven dedicated regional channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa where it can be enjoyed in English, Danish, Dutch, French, Hungarian Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Spanish and Swedish.

    Figures also show that Cartoon Network is the most popular cable and satellite channel for kids in France, Spain, Denmark, Poland, Italy and the most watched cable and satellite channel for kids (in the age group 4-9) in the UK. Cartoon Network is the most widely distributed animation and kids’ channel in the world and has over 1.7 million homes in Romania and over 1.2 million in Hungary.

    In Romania, major clients are Astral Telecom SA, Romania Cable System, UPC Romania, Terrasat and in Hungary UPC Hungary (UPC Magyarorszag), Matavkabel Kft, Antena Hungaria Rt and Fibernet Rf. Cartoon Network’s family of channels, Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network Plus and Boomerang, together make up the most watched animation and kids’ cable and satellite channels in the UK.
